Chapter 179 - Clark and Bart

"I want to be alone."

Metropolis.

A thriving city.

The city's rapid development was fueled by a strong economy, which also created countless job opportunities.

The growing population further boosted the city's progress.

If you wanted to "start a business" in Gotham City, then Metropolis was the sure bet for making money.

Beneath a newly constructed building in Metropolis, a young, muscular man was sitting shirtless, revealing a toned physique.

He was squatting on the ground without a care in the world, devouring a cheap loaf of bread.

Adjusting the sweatband around his neck, Clark gazed thoughtfully at the pile of bricks he'd laid this morning, a stack that would make any foreman offer a cigarette and praise his work.

"Whew." Letting out a soft breath, Clark stood up. He declined his coworkers' offer to grab a drink at the club. After collecting his wages for the day, Clark began walking to a nearby chain supermarket to buy ingredients for dinner.

Entering the store, he was immediately the center of attention in the area, with its rows of products. Clark, wearing only a sleeveless shirt, was hard to miss.

Many American women were captivated by Clark's strong, muscular arms and tall frame.

Some even boldly whistled at him in an attempt to flirt.

Hmm, with that physique, Clark could just stand in the club and earn more money than he made in a week of bricklaying.

"What should I eat today?"

Clark walked toward the store's discount section.

It wasn't that he couldn't earn money, but rather that the guilt in his heart was disturbing Clark's thoughts.

He planned to earn more money to send to the farm to repay Jonathan and Martha Kent for raising him.

Reaching for the nearest bag of bread, Clark was somewhat absentminded, thinking about other things.

"Slap."

A large hand pressed down on the cold display case.

Clark stared blankly, eyes wide.

Wait, where was his bread? Where did that big loaf of bread go?

Clark shook his head. Maybe he had been seeing things earlier? He moved his right hand to touch the second loaf of bread.

"Whoosh."

The same scene played out again, the bread wrapped in its packaging vanished.

"That's not right." Clark frowned. This time, he saw it clearly. The bread truly disappeared from his sight.

A slight feeling of unease settled in his heart. Clark narrowed his eyes, staring at the shelf in front of him.

He reached for another piece of bread. At the same time, under the Kryptonian's innate ability, everything around him seemed to be playing in slow motion.

A woman walking with a child.

A middle-aged man with a beer belly pushing a shopping cart.

Everything seemed frozen in place.

Clark ignored the commotion, focusing intently on the shelf in front of him, trying to figure out where the cheap bread had vanished to.

The next instant.

A flash of golden yellow lightning pierced the air. The speed was so extreme that it caused a "whooshing" sound, and a slender arm reached out, grabbing for the bread Clark held.

Clark glanced to his side.

A boy with a yellow buzz cut and a red backpack was already munching on a piece of bread, clearly intent on snatching the last bag of bread on the shelf.

His red backpack was already stuffed with bread bags.

"Hmm?" The boy seemed to notice the unusual gaze and looked up at the tall figure beside him.

Their eyes met.

They stared at each other.

An awkward atmosphere hung in the air.

After a moment, the boy's eyes widened, his expression filled with shock, as if he couldn't believe Clark had managed to catch his speed.

Zzzt Bright golden lightning crackled around the boy's body, and he flickered, intending to escape.

"Wait!" Clark's speed was also impressive. His arm, which had been reaching for a loaf of bread, instead shot out and grabbed the boy's wrist.

Clap! His strong, calloused left hand firmly gripped the boy's wrist, preventing his escape and disrupting the golden lightning gathering on him.

"You're from the town too?"

Clark tilted his head, staring seriously at the boy.

No wonder he was suspicious; after all, Clark thought the boy's abilities might also be due to the Meteor Shower in town.

And in his opinion, none of the unlucky people in the town who gained superpowers from the Meteor Shower survived.

"Town? What town?"

The boy frowned, his face filled with confusion, and he felt insecure being held by a stranger's wrist.

Clark pursed his lips and asked, "Smallville. Have you ever lived there?"

Clark was wary of this speedster, worried that the child might use his powers for evil.

"Smallville? Isn't that where Uncle Gino and Uncle Clark used to live?" The boy frowned, then glared at Clark with a wary expression. "But that has nothing to do with you. I advise you to let me go, or you'll suffer."

Hearing the boy's words, Clark's mind went blank.

"Uncle Gino and Uncle Clark?"

Clark rubbed his cheek in a daze. His face was clean, not even a hint of stubble, far from the age of an uncle.

Moreover, he didn't remember any couples in the town having a child this big.

Besides, his friend Gino didn't have many friends in the town.

Excluding these possibilities, Clark felt a headache coming on.

But, taking advantage of Clark's stunned moment, the boy suddenly swung his arm.

"Whoosh!"

Before Clark could react.

Golden lightning flashed, and Clark felt a sudden emptiness in his hand.

"Bye-bye, you idiot!"

Breaking free from Clark's grasp.

The boy, who had been standing near the shelves not far away, stuck his tongue out at Clark. In the next instant, the boy transformed into a golden light and dashed towards the exit.

"Don't run!"

Clark dropped the bread he was holding and used his legs to propel himself forward at super speed, chasing after the boy.

He wanted to know the boy's identity; it was very important to him.

The two of them chased each other, like marathon runners competing in a race, or as if they were playing a game of cops and robbers.

With their speed reaching its peak, the surrounding scenery constantly changed.

Everything was left behind them.

From above, it looked like two beams of light, one gold and one white, chasing each other across the entire city of Metropolis.

They raced past chaotic bars, leaped over the steel and concrete of the city, and then sped through LexCorp, a landmark of Metropolis.

"Snap!"

A beautiful and perfect parkour flip. The golden-haired boy jumped over a barrier and landed on the flowing water.

The flowing water was now under his feet. Like an Atlantean out of legend, the boy stood steadily on the water, not forgetting to turn his head and flip Clark off: "Come and get me if you can!"

After saying that, the boy turned and dashed towards the distant sea, leaving only a golden afterimage in Clark's eyes.

"Tsk." Looking at the surging sea, Clark couldn't help but clench his fist.

The reason was simple: he couldn't walk on water.

Staring at the figure that was gradually running away, Clark pursed his lips and thought for a moment, then sighed deeply, "If Gino were here, it would be better."
