Chapter 143 - Saving the Day

Lex didn't know how to describe how he felt right now.

Annoyed? Angry?

Maybe a bit of both?

He had nothing to say about Lionel's stubbornness.

"Suit yourself."

Reason dictated the most sensible choice. Instead of going back to try and stop the intruder with a gun like Lionel, Lex sprinted towards the Rooftop Heliport, pulling out his phone to call Gino.

If anyone could stop that zombie-like monster, it was probably Gino.

Meanwhile, Lionel, with Jack's help, was getting back on his feet. He gripped a Shotgun, the barrel aimed at the entrance, as he grumbled to the old butler, "My foolish son is actually scared of an intruder."

"Perhaps, Young Master Lex made the wiser choice."

The old butler wanted to say that, but after seeing Lionel's face, he chose to remain silent.

"Thump, thump…"

Heavy footsteps grew closer.

Lionel also raised his shotgun, waiting.

"BOOM!"

The castle's aged wooden door shattered. At the instant he heard the sound, Lionel pulled the trigger.

The scene seemed to slow down.

Iron fragments spewed from the barrel, scattering like flower petals, covering the entrance.

Shotgun pellets of varying sizes flew at high speed, leaving trails in the air.

"Pa-pa-pa!"

They slammed into the intruder's upper body, but it was like hitting steel, exploding into a shower of brilliant sparks.

Byron didn't even glance at the red marks on his body. His pitch-black eyes simply fixed on Lionel, and then he charged towards his foe.

"Is he dead?" Lionel asked the old butler, tilting his head.

The old butler stared blankly at Byron charging towards them, shaking his head repeatedly: "Uh, sir, no, on the contrary, your bullets have no effect on him."

"What?!"

Lionel's face changed drastically, and his ears caught the sound of footsteps rapidly approaching him.

"Jack, the Luther Family treated you well."

Lionel didn't hesitate. He grabbed the shoulders of the old butler supporting him, gritting his teeth as he shoved the man toward the approaching footsteps. Scrambling backward, he yelled, "Now's your chance to repay me!"

Inside the hall.

Seeing the old butler pushed toward him by Lionel, Byron's eyes flashed with malice. He was completely devoid of reason now, only knowing that the old man in the suit was in his way and needed to die.

"Roar!"

Sharp, cold claws rose and fell. The old butler, who had diligently served the Luther Family for decades, was about to meet his end at Byron's hand.

"Hey, monster, why don't you look up!"

The voice from above interrupted Byron's thoughts.

His dark eyes slowly lifted, and his gaze fell upon Lex in the hallway.

The bald man was wearing a black suit, his cheeks tight, clearly showing his nervousness.

"It's you, you're Lionel's son!"

Byron tilted his head, sniffing the air. "I can smell his blood coursing through your decaying body."

"Whoosh!"

With a light leap, he lunged at Lex, moving like a Night Elf.

For Byron, killing Lionel's son would perhaps inflict more pain.

Boom!

Byron stomped heavily onto the wooden floorboards.

He spread his hands,

The direction of those sharp claws was aimed directly at Lex's neck.

The speed was so fast that Lex couldn't even react.

What should he do? How should he react? He only felt, His mind was blank.

Facing the fear of death, Lex was surprised to find that his reaction was nothingness.

The sharp claws that were enlarging in his pupils were about to pierce Lex's throat, but the man calmly closed his eyes.

However, the expected pain didn't come from his neck.

It was like a gentle breeze brushing his cheek, and a slightly mocking voice sounded from his ear: "It's not time to die yet, Lex."

Lex seemed to have heard that familiar voice hundreds of times. From when he was learning sounds as a child, to his noisy middle school life, until the other person accompanied him to the small town.

He had never heard a voice so pleasant.

Lex slowly opened his eyes.

He saw,

A tall figure stood before Lex, an arm gently blocking the claws lunging for his neck.

Gino slowly turned his head, his smile gone, replaced by an icy gaze.

The youth stared at Byron, his beautiful blue eyes filled with fury, and he said, word by word: "How dare you, touch my brother!?"

No one had ever seen Gino in a rage.

All along, the youth had presented a calm and collected demeanor to the outside world.

To quote certain sages: why would a strong person get angry with a weak one?

But everyone has their own bottom line, and Gino's bottom line had always been family and friends; this was the key to him maintaining his humanity.

When Clark, Chloe, and the others arrived at the manor, they saw a scene that shocked them.

Byron, who was more than two meters tall, was thrown out of the window like a ragdoll.

He smashed through the glass, arcing gracefully through the air before crashing heavily onto the green lawn.

And, what was even more jaw-dropping for the three of them was: a figure slowly floated out of the shattered window.

Yes, just like Jesus walking on water or Moses parting the sea, Gino was expressionless, walking step by step in the air.

"Th-that, that, that's Gino?"

Chloe looked up at Gino, stuttering so badly from the tension.

The sun shone down on the youth, his figure radiant.

"He…"

Clark swallowed hard.

"He can fly?!"

His friend could fly?

Ignoring the stunned onlookers, Gino looked down at the ground from above.

Byron, who had been thrown out the window, landed in the grass with a thud, kicking up dust.

He lay in the deep crater, his body seemingly paralyzed.

"You shouldn't have."

Gino's expression was blank, his eyes slowly beginning to glow red.

"Touched my family!"

"Whoosh!"

Intense, scorching beams of light shot from his eyes and streaked through the air.

The extreme heat seemed to ignite the very air, causing waves of searing heat to rise.

The beams, far faster than lightning, struck Byron the next instant.

The steel-hard body that could withstand bullets was instantly seared and charred by the extreme heat, and the blood pouring from the wound pierced by the beams was even ignited and vaporized in an instant.

"Pfft!"

The beam shattered bone and scorched earth, until Heat Vision consumed the entire body and then extinguished.

Byron didn't even get a chance to scream before he lost his life.

Gino retracted the Heat Vision from his eyes, leaving behind only a charred body radiating waves of intense heat and a severely damaged patch of lawn.

Silence.

Dead silence, a silence as vast as the universe.

The enormous Luther Family manor was silent, with only the rustling of the grass in the wind.

And Byron's corpse lay still in the charred pit, the reddish cooked flesh, the protruding eyeballs and sunken eye sockets, all telling the story of Byron's undeniable death.
