Chapter 73 - Farewell

Underground base.

"Thud, thud."

Gino walked slowly towards the other three.

"He... he's not afraid of bullets!?"

The black bodyguard rubbed his eyes hard, unable to believe what he had just seen.

A high school student had blocked the most lethal firearm with just his palm.

And the twisted shell casings on the ground proved that what they had seen wasn't a hallucination.

The black men didn't believe in evil.

Bang, bang, bang!

More shots rang out. They hadn't even seen the boy move, just a slight extension of his hand, and the bullets were once again dropped to the ground.

Amanda's eyes were filled with fear, her small eyes widening in an attempt to see how Gino had done it.

"Phew."

Gino blew the dust off his hand, and then he stood in front of the bodyguards.

The boy smiled at them, "You seem surprised."

His words successfully snapped the stunned bodyguards back to reality. The two black men waved their fists and charged at Gino.

"Ugh, how boring." Gino shook his head.

The next second, two large hands suddenly grabbed the black men's necks, and then, their heads were slammed together.

Boom!

It was like a watermelon exploding, the shattered skull and brains splattering across Amanda's face.

"Aah!" The woman let out a shrill scream, like a screeching groundhog.

"Shut up."

Gino glanced at Amanda, and the woman immediately became like a duck with its neck squeezed, biting her lip tightly and not daring to make a sound.

Gino dropped the two headless corpses he was holding. He looked at the blood on his hands, then flicked off the droplets.

A few drops of blood arced gracefully through the air, then landed on Amanda's lips.

A faint smell of blood drifted through the air.

Amanda's pupils dilated, a faraway look in her eyes.

She was stunned.

The woman had always believed herself to be brave and strong.

But today…

Witnessing all of this firsthand shook her to her core.

A feeling called fear began to grow in Amanda's heart, reminding her of her black father who ran away when he was six years old.

Fear devoured the woman's senses, while the survival instinct deep within her kept urging her to do something.

What should she do now?

Resist?

The two corpses on the ground provided the clearest answer.

Beg? Plead for mercy? To a young high schooler?

Amanda was torn.

But when a pair of blood-soaked sneakers entered her field of vision...

Her so-called pride and glory crumbled in an instant.

"Don't kill me!"

Amanda heard herself emit a pig-like scream. Her supposedly sturdy knees buckled, and she knelt on the ground as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

She babbled, "I'm an aide to the President, a member of Congress, the leader of the Supernatural Events Group, you can't kill me!"

She even considered the situation from the Luthor Family's perspective, firing off arguments in rapid succession, "If I die, the White House will definitely launch an investigation, and the town will be exposed to more and more people!"

The sneaker slowly came to a halt.

Then.

"Thump!"

A sneaker stomped hard on Amanda's head, forcing her head into intimate contact with the floor.

Endless humiliation made Amanda clench her fists instantly. She heard the voice of the blonde boy: "How interesting, Councilor Amanda."

"I think you're right, so, what do you think I should do?"

Amanda suppressed her anger, releasing her clenched fists, her voice low: "As long as you let me go, I'm willing to serve the Luthor Family."

"Hahaha!" A clear laugh rang out overhead.

Gino looked at the black, fat woman under his foot, shaking his head and said: "But, Ms. Amanda. You just said that politicians' words are absolutely unreliable."

"Now you want me to let you go?"

"Although I don't trust you." Gino leaned down, looking at the ugly woman, "But, I am a good person, willing to give you a chance, just at the cost of a small price."

Gino spoke, gesturing with two fingers, smiling brightly, like a devil who had just tricked someone.

He clapped his hands, and a grinning Bizarro brought over a syringe.

Gino tapped the needle, and laughed, "Allow me to introduce you."

"Nano-bomb~"

It was the familiar black Lincoln again.

Amanda stared out the window at the Luthor Family chemical plant with a venomous look.

The woman rubbed her thick neck, a hint of hatred flashing in her eyes.

But then, like a deflated ball, she tapped the car seat, signaling the driver to leave.

"Ms. Amanda."

The driver started the car, and the Lincoln smoothly drove away from the factory.

The black driver glanced at the woman in the rearview mirror, curious: "How is your investigation going?"

Amanda glanced at the driver, her expressionless face: "Nothing found. Everything in this town is normal."

Monday.

"Ring ring."

As the exam bell rang, the students tossed down their papers, cheering and shouting as they rushed towards the hallway.

The final exams were over, and a two-month summer vacation awaited them.

Gino and Chloe walked side by side.

Ever since Gino and Clark had fallen out, Chloe and Pete had also clearly chosen different companions to follow.

The pairings were roughly:

Gino-Chloe.

Clark-Pete.

In the hallway, Chloe glanced at Gino, and after hesitating for a moment, she slowly asked, "So, what are your plans for the summer?"

"Me?" Gino shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe stay in town."

Before he could finish, his phone in his pocket rang.

He pulled out his phone and looked at the number. Gino answered the call with a blank expression.

"What is it?"

"You should be on vacation, right?" Lionel's voice came from the phone. He slowly said, "Your mother wants to go back to Gotham City to visit your grandfather. She hopes you'll go with her."

Gino was silent for a moment before responding, "I understand."

Gino hated his father, but he loved his mother.

"Whoa, I wasn't trying to eavesdrop, but you're going to Gotham for the summer?" Chloe shuddered. "Just hearing the name Gotham gives me goosebumps."

What is Gotham?

The moment people hear its name, they think of many titles.

"City of Sin," "Land of Demons," anything associated with chaos and evil can be pinned on Gotham City.

It's a chaotic and evil place – that's everyone's consensus.

"Yeah, Gotham City. My mother wants to visit my grandfather." Gino put away his phone. He loved his mother, and naturally, wouldn't let her go to a place like Gotham alone.

Chloe sighed, "Ugh, I was planning to invite you to next week's bonfire party. Looks like there's no chance now."

"There's always a chance, Chloe." Gino smiled, lowering his head to ruffle the girl's hair. "See you in the fall."

Chloe drooped her head, but still perked up and smiled, saying, "Okay, see you in the fall."

Tomorrow, we enter the Gotham line. My favorite Gotham, hooray!
