Chapter 13 - IGNORANCE ISN'T BLISS.

Simply showing his face was enough for the entirety of students at Navaliae academy to deduce that Aryan shouldn't be messed with. Older Oreo glanced at Water with a pitying expression- the mischievous demon had messed with the wrong person.

Just as Aryan made it to the front of the podium, a voice- loud and vicious cut through the air shocking everyone, including the committee members present.

"What the fuck are you all trying to pull?! Get that person off the stage now!" the academy master's voice boomed deep with anger, completely different from his childish playful voice from the previous day.

Without waiting for any response from the committee members present, the academy master engulfed the stage in a thick purplish fog that blinded every other person from Aryan- it was a mutation from his lightning magic. In the next second, Grem was standing beside Aryan, hand firmly grasping the teen's elbow as he activated a teleportation seal.

By the time the fog had cleared and the committee members plus students could see, Aryan was gone filling them all with a slight feeling of dread. The academy master had never, in his nearly a hundred years of reign, displayed his anger so visibly.

While Water frowned deeply as he and the other two aforementioned demons were ushered from amongst the students toward a door exiting the field, the rest of the students were being herded back to their resident castles by various committee representatives. Darius furrowed his brows from the seat at the back of the stage where he watched everything- he couldn't see clearly but he was sure as hell that he had felt Gem's presence.

A dark expression filled his face as he contemplated everything. He was sure the Academy mater would be angry but he didn't imagine-

'I grossly miscalculated didn't I?' he muttered internally with a sigh as he looked up at the Navaliae dark skies.

Water, Erik and Galdot were harshly pulled into the committee's meeting room by the representative from earlier.

"Just wait here quietly for the committee members to arrive" she spoke just as harsh as her movements looking over them with a condescending gaze. Water grit his teeth choosing not to respond with the other two as was the norm when showing respect. He felt greatly insulted and was unwilling to show respect in turn. The representative, however, didn't care and just walked out of the room the minute she was done talking.

Once the door was closed, Erik's respectful smile dropped and he glared at Water. "You bastard! Who the fuck did you make us mess with?!" he exclaimed, brown eyes burning with an intensity that betrayed his anger. "Doesn't matter now does it? This much trouble is enough to repay him isn't it" Galdot's monotone voice rung in the room as he stared straight ahead.

Water bit his lower lip in frustration- Galdot had always been hard to control and now, he had no grasp over him again. "Yeah, your debt has been relinquished" he muttered through grit teeth, the entirety of the situation very frustrating.

Erik, the more emotion-drived one, continued to glare at Water but remained quiet. He felt he had done way more than just payment of debt but if Galdot was just going to leave it at that, he had no choice but to drop it as well.

The thing is, Galdot and Erik were the sons of demon cardinals who had close relation with each other, even rumored to have established a contract between themselves. However, even amongst the cardinals, there was still a hierarchy based on the strength and development of each one's territory. Between Galdot and Erik's fathers, Galdot's was the stronger one and thus, Erik had grown up being told to follow after Galdot eventually becoming good friends.

Sometime in their second year, Water had popped out of nowhere and gotten something against Galdot that forced the tall demon to work for him. Erik still didn't know what it was that Water found out about the demon but he knew that it must have been something big as he(Erik) had been told to stop speaking to him(Galdot). After pestering for a while, Galdot resumed relation with him and he joined the bigger demon to work for Water hoping to repay the guy quicker that way.

'Not only did he bring in a new friend, but he didn't relinquish Galdot's debt even after 7 years' he thought, clicking his tongue. Maybe messing with that half-breed was a good thing after all.

Not up to five minutes after they had settled, the committee members began to troop into the room, remaining on their feet as they arrived at their designated seats while waiting for Darius.

The tall, cloaked demon strolled into the room in a seemingly lazy manner- a total contrast to the hard expression on his face. He walked to his seat before quietly falling in it and as if on cue, the other members chorused out a greeting with their heads bowed. They took their seats after he acknowledged their greeting diving straight into the business of the day.

"Damn, I totally didn't expect the academy master to be so angry" Maddi spoke first earning a sigh from most of the others. "Yeah, it seems our ignorance with regards to who that mixed race is was more costly than we imagined" Eldra added with a slight shake of her head. "It's not our fault though! Anything having to do with the academy should be explained to us-we are the governors, the ones in charge! That child is simply there for show" Urian huffed but was met with a sharp look from Darius making her look down timidly.

"As much as that may be true, the academy master represents the demon king himself, being a demon lord so we are equally constrained to obey him" Triton quipped tilting his head. "Seeing as the academy master has never failed to share anything regarding the academy to us before now, it could be that the mixed race is completely unrelated to the academy" Eldra reasoned stirring up the other members as they thought on what she said.

"You mean he could just be an assignment of the demon king sent to be watched here?" Totem asked earning a nod from the red-head. Silence ensued as they contemplated again. "That does seem plausible" Fredwick muttered resting a hand on his chin.

Triton sighed. "If that is the case, it seems we have abused the academy master's trust in us this time" he muttered and another silence ensued.

Water watched not knowing what to say. When he had been sent on his mission, no one had told him about the possibility of Aryan being an assignment of the demon king. If that was the case, he would feel betrayed and thus he so desperately hoped it wasn't. Because then, he'd be forced to come to terms with the fact that he was 'disposed'.

"So, what do we do with these kids?" Totem asked, his face hidden beneath the hood of his cloak turned in the direction of the three young demons. Darius, who had been listening to the committee members generate plausible theories for what happened that day, glanced at the three demons for a second before looking back down at he table.

"Suspension and demotion. If they really did mess with the demon king's assignment, then it's better they are off academy grounds immediately for the sake of their lives" he responded almost immediately. "The demotion should sate the administrators' anger even if temporarily" he added with a nod signaling that they should be escorted out.

"A wise decision. I will take them to get their things packed" Eldra spoke as she rose to her feet, Maddi following the next second. "I would like to tag along" he said with a smile when he noticed Eldra's questioning gaze.

"The rest of you, go handle the students and staff. I think a meeting with the academy board is long overdue" Darius instructed. The other members all rose to their feet bowing their heads.

"Yes superior Darius"
