Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Dimitri quietly got up from his bed and went to take a shower. He had to meet up with Charlie to go and pick up Bella.

Feeling refreshed, Dimitri skipped breakfast and headed straight to Charlie's place. He didn't need to eat, not really. He just did on most days as a habit.

It didn't take long for him to pick up Charlie at his home. Together, they drove towards Port Angeles to meetup with Bella.

-------

[Bella's POV]

The flight from Seattle to Port Angeles took less time than Bella initially thought. She quickly gathered her belongings and mixed in with the crowd leaving the plane.

In the distance she spotted Charlie, who was waving at her. For a moment she hesitated. She missed her old life in Phoenix, but she steeled herself and made her way towards Charlie.

Charlie walked up to her and gave an awkward hug. He let go and let out nervous laugh, his hand reaching out to ruffle her hair.

"Hey, dad." Bella said as she tried to break away from him.

"It's nice to see you Bells," Charlie said as he embraced her again, not letting her get away. " We'll get your luggage and head to the car, someone's waiting for us."

Charlie took her luggage and led her to the parking area. Bella didn't say much as they walked, she was still coming in to terms with her situation. She just followed him quietly, answering only when it was unavoidable.

She appreciated what Charlie was doing for her, but still, she was getting impatient. She looked around to find Charlie's police cruiser, she'd expected him to come in it.

"Dad, where's the car?" Bella finally broke her silence and questioned him directly.

Charlie walked a few steps ahead and pointed towards the edge of the parking lot, where a young man was leaning on an old school muscle car. "Is that the one? How'd you get it?" Bella's interest was piqued.

"I called in a favor from a friend. Come, you should introduce yourselves. I think you'll like him."

Bella followed Charlie in silence until they were close enough for her to take a proper look at this friend Charlie mentioned.

He had an athletic build, well proportioned and above average in height. His skin was paler than her own and his face was undoubtedly handsome, perhaps beautiful even. His sharp grey eyes contrasted with his aloof demeanor, as if he was hiding something beneath that nonchalance.

Before she could observe him more, the stranger approached her and offered his hand.

"Hi! You must be Bella, I'm Dimitri, a friend of Charlie's" Dimitri gave her a warm smile, as if they'd known each other for years.

Bella firmly shook his hand and nodded. "Nice to meet you." she wanted to say more, but she hesitated.

"Alright kid, help me put this thing in the trunk" Charlie gave Dimitri a nudge and walked towards the trunk. Dimitri followed him after instructing Bella to get in.

After they were done, Dimitri got into the driver's seat while Charlie rode shotgun. Soon enough, they were well on their way to Forks.

Bella stared out the window in the back seat, occasionally joining in on the conversation but mostly just listening to Charlie and Dimitri's playful banter.

Unlike her expectations, the ride to Charlie's home ended up being quite enjoyable, like a road trip of sorts. Just one without anything to see other than moss covered trees.

When she found out that Dimitri had only known Charlie for a single week, she was genuinely surprised. Though when she thought about it, it kind of made sense. Dimitri was hard not to get along with. Even she was fond of him.

"Hey Bells, you said you wanted a car right?" Charlie's voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

"Yeah, I got the money for it. " Bella nodded in confirmation. The last thing she wanted was to be dropped of at school in Charlie's police cruiser. She loved Charlie, but that was definitely a no-go.

Charlie gave a nervous laugh and turned to face Bella. " Actually, I kind of already took care of it. You remember Billy Black, right?"

"No"

"We used to o fishing with him, he's in a wheel chair now. I bought this Chevy pickup from him, real cheap. He'll bring it over in the evening."

"Thanks, dad." Bella nodded and stared out the window again. Meanwhile, Dimitri stayed quiet about the exchange between them. It wasn't his place to say anything, instead he kept his eyes focused on the road.

By the time they arrived at Charlie's place, Bella's mood had lifted considerably. Having Dimitri around had made things easier for both Charlie and Bella. He filled in the gap between them, acting like bridge of sorts.

During their time together Bella's mood had lifted considerably. She was more talkative and at ease around them. They talked for a bit more before Dimitri left. Bella watched his car disappear into the distance before heading back inside with Charlie.

----

[General POV]

Dimitri hardened his grip on the wheel one more time before getting out. The rain outside annoyed him. 'Just what I needed' he thought to himself as he rushed to his house. He took off his jacket and slumped on the sofa.

Spending time with Bella and Charlie was nice. They were both good people, albeit a bit bad at socializing. There were more than a few times when he had to step into keep things from turning awkward.

As for what he thought about Bella, he couldn't remember much from the movie, so he had to go with what he'd seen for himself, and he respected what he saw.

It was obvious that she was sacrificing a lot by coming to forks from how she spoke about her mom and her old life in Phoenix. But she did, because that's what she thought was best for her. Dimitri favored people like that, ones who willingly made sacrifices so that others could be happy. They deserved kindness in return.

He liked them for who they were now, not for what he'd seen in the movie. These were real people, and they were nice to him. Especially Charlie, he went out of his way to help Dimitri settle into Forks, despite only knowing him for a few days.

Dimitri let a soft sigh escape his lips as he closed his eyes. Charlie and Bella reminded him of his old family, before he was orphaned. It only brought him frustration. He lost them in a car-crash when he was younger, and he'd been powerless to protect them. But now that he had power, he could do whatever he wanted. But at his heart, there was only one thing he wanted.

'I want to be happy...'Dimitri stared at the ceiling until he fell asleep. What he dreamt of would be known only to him.

Dimitri woke up with a start, sweat beading his forehead. He curled his fingers into a fist. Squeezing so hard, his knuckles turned white. He was done lazing around. He had to let off some steam. He grabbed his jacket and went for a run.

The rain pounded on his skin, but Dimitri didn't pay it any mind. Each time his feet connected with the tar, he felt one of his worries fade away. He kept increasing his speed until only a blur remained of his visage.

Dimitri didn't look back. Instead he kept on running till he couldn't anymore, not because he was tired, but because there was nowhere left to run. He'd reached the ocean. A beach in La Push from what he guessed.

He walked along the coast line at a leisurely pace. There was no one around to disturb his thoughts. He was never one to think too much about the past. So why, after spending time with the Swans did he become so emotional?

With no way to find answers, he just gave up and looked at the sea. The sun was already nearing it descent, it would stay up for two hours at most. Dimitri let his gaze wander till his eye caught sight of a sea stack in the distance. A smile tugged at his lips when a thought came to mind.

He ran towards the sea at full speed and began swimming. The currents were strong, but nothing he couldn't handle. He firmly grabbed on to the sea stack and began climbing.

He grasped what handholds he could, his feet supporting the climb. When there was nothing to hold onto, he made his own handholds by punching into the rock.

It took him a while to get to the top. Partly because the climb was steep and partly because he wasn't in a hurry. He settled himself on flat stone and watched as the sun drowned in the sea. His sat there for what felt like hours, waiting till the last bit of sunlight faded away.

It was his first time watching the sunset since coming here, and it was the most beautiful he'd ever seen. Dimitri let a relieved sigh escape as he felt his worries disappear. Out of curiosity, he willed the template to appear.

'15%, not bad, not bad at all.' Dimitri broke into a care free laugh, there was no one to stop him. He stood alone on top of the stone spire, bathed in moonlight. Then he began his descent, which didn't take long because he got bored halfway through and jumped into the ocean.

The run back home was even faster than before. He took a shower and went straight bed. Not because he needed it, he just liked sleeping.

Thanks for your support guys. I really appreciate it.

Also I'm just gonna use chapter numbers for the title form now on. Coming up with one is harder than writing the story😭.
