"What?" Lucien cut in sharply, his body snapping upright in the seat, tension radiating off him like heat from a furnace.
"My daughter told me earlier. Sera mentioned it while they were playing at her birthday party," Zara muttered, her head ducking immediately under Lucien's murderous gaze.
"When I saw the bruises, I assumed she might've fallen out of the wheelchair. That's why I didn't ask questions," she added quickly, her voice edged with panic, as if clarifying might spare her from the storm she saw brewing in his eyes.
"Did you find out if the kids were severely punished for what they did?" he demanded, voice ice-cold. His fists clenched tight, knuckles whitening as he fought to contain the wrath building inside him.
"Unfortunately, no." Zara shook her head, still refusing to meet his gaze. She feared one look might burn her alive.
