Chapter 6 - Start of high school career

The bus bumped along the mountain road for a whole night. I leaned against the window and watched the scenery outside change from mountains and forests to cities. The high-rise buildings in the new city sparkled in the morning light, and the streets were busy. This place was completely different from the small county town where the orphanage was located.

"Classmate, we've arrived." The driver's voice brought me back from my thoughts.

I got off the bus with my luggage on my back and found the school according to the address the dean gave me. Qingshan High School, a well-known key high school in the local area.

The security guard looked at my admission letter and nodded to let me in. "New students register on the first floor of the teaching building."

I walked into the campus and saw many students doing morning exercises on the playground. Some were running, some were playing ball, full of youthful energy. A few girls were whispering about something when they passed by me.

"The new handsome guy."

"It looks pretty cool."

"It seems a bit cold though."

I ignored their comments and walked straight to the teaching building. There was a long queue at the registration desk, most of whom were students of my age. Some came with their parents, and some came alone.

When it was my turn, the teacher in charge of registration was a middle-aged woman who wore glasses and looked very serious.

"Name."

"Liam."

"age."

"Sixteen."

She recorded the information on the form and handed me a piece of paper. "The dormitory is in Building 3, and the bed is bed number 3 in Room 306. There will be a class meeting at 2 o'clock this afternoon, so don't be late."

I took the note and walked towards the dormitory building. Building No. 3 was a six-story building that looked quite old. There were various notices and posters posted in the corridor, and some parts of the wall were already peeling.

The door of Room 306 was open, and there were already three people packing their things inside. When they saw me come in, they all stopped what they were doing.

"You must be our new roommate." A tall and thin boy came over. "My name is Lucas, and I'm a sophomore."

"My name is Liam, and I'm a freshman in high school."

"I'm Henry, also a sophomore." Another boy wearing glasses nodded in a friendly manner.

"I'm Noah, a senior." The last person simply said this and continued to pack his things.

Lucas helped me move my luggage to bed number 3, which was by the window. "You're lucky. This seat has good ventilation and a good view."

I packed my luggage briefly, but there wasn't much to pack. A few clothes and a few books, that's all.

"Where are you from?" Henry asked curiously.

"The orphanage," I answered calmly.

The room fell silent instantly. None of the three of them knew what to say, and the atmosphere became awkward.

"I'm sorry..." Lucas tried to break the silence.

"It's nothing, I'm used to it." I lay on the bed and closed my eyes.

At lunchtime, I went to the cafeteria alone. The school cafeteria was very large and could accommodate thousands of people at the same time. I ordered a simple meal and found a seat in a corner.

"That's him, the new one."

"I heard he came from an orphanage."

"Looks pretty cool."

I ignored the discussions around me. This kind of situation often happens in the orphanage, and I'm used to it.

The afternoon class meeting was held in Class 3 of Grade 1. The head teacher was a male teacher in his forties, surnamed Liu, who looked very serious.

"We have a new student transferred to our class this semester." Teacher Liu looked at me and said, "Please introduce yourself."

I stood up and glanced at the whole class. "My name is Liam, please take care of me."

Just a few words and then sit down.

"Is that it?" Teacher Liu frowned.

"I think that's enough."

The whole class looked at me, some of them whispered. Teacher Liu looked unhappy, but she continued the class meeting.

After the class meeting, I returned to the dormitory. Lucas and Henry were playing mobile games, and Noah was reading a book.

"What are your hobbies?" Henry asked me after putting down his phone.

"No."

"What about sports? Basketball? Football?"

"Not interested."

Lucas and Henry looked at each other, obviously frustrated by my coldness.

After turning off the lights at night, I lay on the bed and looked at the ceiling. There was some noise outside, and senior students were still walking in the corridor.

"Bloody Wolf." I said silently in my heart.

Green smoke rose from its forehead, and the figure of the Blood Wolf condensed in the darkness. Because it was in a virtual state, the roommates could not see it.

"Master, how is the new environment?"

"It's okay." I turned over, "Just a little boring."

"The people here are too weak, there's no challenge."

Blood Wolf lay by the window, his red eyes looking out at the night. "Don't underestimate any environment. Often the calmest places hide the greatest dangers."

"I know."

"Have a good rest. Classes will officially start tomorrow." The blood wolf turned into green smoke and drilled back into my body.

The next day was Monday, when classes officially started. My schedule was full, from 8am to 5pm. Mathematics, Chinese, English, physics, chemistry, biology, one after another.

My deskmate was a girl named Ariel, who was pretty and had good grades. She tried to communicate with me, but my responses were always brief and cold.

"Where did you go to school?"

"Small place."

"How are your grades?"

"good."

"Why are you always alone?"

"I'm used to it."

After a few days, Ariel gave up trying to communicate with me. The same was true for other classmates in the class. They all thought I was weird and lonely.

But I don't care what others think. I'm here just to complete my studies, and if someone bullies me, I don't mind teaching him how to be a good person again.
