"Aaaaaahhhhh!" A loud scream cuts through the up to that point calm sensation of the park.
My two ears and eyes scan the area for the source of the scream, looking through the group of people who are now trying to figure out what is going on.
"What the…?! How did that shit get inside of the city?!" Someone else yells.
"HEEELP!" Another scream.
I know where it is coming from now! I move towards it and find myself with people running away.
"H-huh?!" Karina seems surprised. "In that direction! T-they appeared out of nowhere!" She points to where the screams are coming from. "I did not see them appear! A couple of strong souls appeared!"
…was that a summon or a teleport?
How else can souls appear in the middle of a park, out of nowhere, and cause trouble?
And when I reach, I see them.
By my side a guard passes flying, and hits a tree. The armor was torn apart, torn up like it was simple fabric.
And who did it? In front of me, face a couple of people that were screaming for their lives, was a Great Ancient Snow Wolf and a fucking Lower Lich are you fucking kididing me?
The Great Ancient Snow Wolf is what it sounds like. A white wolf that is too big and with clear scars on its fur, denoting that it is a beast that has seen brutal fights in the past. It is lacking an eye and is massive.
The real issue and threat is the Lower Lich.
An undead being that wears a torn dark cape, with a red glow where its left eyeball should be. It is holding an ornamental staff that I am sure actually holds power. It is missing its leg, and there is a dark miasm under it.
That is a creature that started its way through the path of the undead as a sorcerer very recently. They are still dangerous.
The people being threatened are slowly backing down, trying to get away. Two men and a woman with a little girl.
If I don't do something, they are getting killed.
I pull out Bloodless.
"Hmmmm?" The lich murmurs.
His attention turns towards me.
He must have felt the change in magic power when I held Bloodless.
It speaks with a loud, deep and commanding voice.
"An actual mage… you could be a problem. Beast! Continue luring our target out!"
The creature leaps forward and I cast a sound bolt towards it.
The Lich makes a movement with his staff and a golden barrier appears in the path of my spell, blocking it entirely.
I cast again, several times, trying to hit the beast, but each bolt is stopped by the magic barrier.
"[Nether Ball]!" The lich casts a spell with his hand towards me.
A black ball appears in his hand and launches towards me with the speed of a cannon ball. A sizzling sound accompanies it.
Thanks to the Defense on my Kimono and the dodge skill I have been gaining, I managed to get out of the trajectory, but not soon enough to evade the blast that followed it.
Dark energy pours off the ball when it hits a tree behind me, launching me forward.
I feel the pain in my back and the hit of my front landing in the ground.
I grunt in pain and immediately look up at the lich.
[You were severely injured (-2100)!]
That thing is causing too much damage! It took more than half my HP!
I immediately get up, ignoring the pain.
The beast!
I remembered and I see how it manages to catch one of the adults.
"Raul!" Yells the woman in horror as she grabs the child and the man gets mauled and bitten to death after trying to defend his family.
Fuck! With the lich in the middle there is little I can do! I most likely can kill the wolf with ease, but with this lich I need to be more strategic!
"Karina!" I yell.
"On it!" She screams.
Karina positioned herself behind the Lich. Without neither of them noticing her, she managed to move a couple of bottles and wands I gave her. They are on her feet.
And in her hand is a wand.
She zaps it, and four magic bullets fire from the tip of the wooden wand and hit both the back of the lich and the side of the wolf.
Hell, she waited for my order. I should have yelled before and we would not be having another death.
The lich turns and casts a [Death Ray] spell to where Karina is, but the spell does not hit. The wolf also turns and scans the area for who just managed to strike it.
Yet neither can see her.
I had a theory that maybe she could use the wands and other items. It seems I was right, so I gave her a [Magic Missile] wand I had on my inventory when I saw the lich, besides some potions.
Taking advantage of the situation, I read a [Speed] scroll, making me 50% faster, and I stand up to use a [Heal Light Wounds] wand on myself.
The lich notices and turns around to me, but I cut the distance, and cast [Sound Bolt] twice at its head.
The invisible bolts hit the side of its head and flinches when the spell strikes in pain.
[Lich is barely injured (-1530)!]
The damage is around those amounts. And there is no stun effect.
"I see… what a lousy mage…" The lich says. "Undead are not affected by Sound Spells, we cannot get stunned by it… unlike you!"
He uses another sound spell called [Cacophony of Banshees]. A loud screech, like a wave, came from the Lich, deafening.
The pain in my ears is instant, agonizing. I drop to my knees while holding my ears closed with my hands.
[You are critically injured (-2510)!]
It took a nice chuck of HP even with my resistances.
Then, I feel something pulling my hair.
"Aaagh!" I scream in pain, feeling the strong pull make me stand up.
The lich is pulling my hair and making me stand up.
"A novice mage like you is the reason many people believe magic is easy… none of you understand the intricate elements of it, just casting spells for the hell of it… it is a pleasure of mine to get rid of your kind. Any last wish?"
"Shit… y-you know?" I manage to speak through the pains. "I always wondered… if it was true that liches are arrogant fools." I smile at him. "Seems it was true!"
CRASH!
Glass shatters on top of him, and a liquid drips from the top of its skull.
SSSZZZZZZZHHHHHHH!
"HMMM?!" A sound of confusion comes from the undead's mouth.
[All of the Lich's resistances went down dramatically!!!!!]
I put my hand on his chest. "[Inferno]."
