Chapter 41 - Fight at the camp

"[Inferno]" I cast the spell right on him.

I unnecessarily say the spell. There is no way for him to avoid the cast, and it catches the one behind him. It burns my cage and I get both kills.

"Eh! S-she is escaping already!"

[You have been silenced]

I try to talk and nothing comes out, the spell did more than just stop me from casting spells, I cannot talk literally.

I look to my right, and I see who used the spell on me. It is a mage, holding a staff to cast the spell. I turn towards him, knowing he is probably the most dangerous in the bunch, not counting their leader.

"She is silenced, go now and...!"

I cast [Firebolt] at him thanks to the fact that I have the [Silent Casting] feat, which nullifies those states and, basically, makes me unstoppable. Only Godly-level spells are out of the question; they are too powerful and require either saying the name or chanting the whole scripture, calling forth the power from the deity. Ellen is one of the few good enough to not require it, as her spell is a powerful defensive spell.

The spell hits on his face, and I manage to see his eyes go wide. I wanted to try to talk things out, but their leader decided to capture me and try to make me a prisoner, who knows what they were expecting. Now I have 3 of them dead.

Am I the new one on this?

Or maybe he believed I was not strong and stupid enough to attempt something.

My clothes look ridiculous, after all. 2 more appear from a tent while the rest come from the surroundings. The leader appears now from his own tent, seems I called his attention, finally.

I try to talk.

Only my mouth moves.

"You cannot talk, idiot." Karina points out.

I just give her a threatening look.

How long does this status last? I remember I fought to get this feat because it usually took too long, and it was a killer for dedicated mages who roam the game solo.

I keep trying to continue talking to no avail, only to get frustrated and stomp my foot.

"Seems you got hit with a silence spell..." Maxwell says. He shakes his head and puts on his helmet. "You still seem like a new and extremely novice adventurer."

You are the idiot who decided to put me in a cage without roughing me up or using a silence spell to begin with! That helped me way more than it should have; after all, now I have a new objective.

I point to the cages where the prisoners are. They are looking at me with fear, but are wondering if I am going to save them.

"You want to be their savior?" He smirks at me, condescendingly. "Everyone, attack!"

I sigh. I hate that he can just talk while I am here, mute.

I prepare myself to cast a barrage of spells to protect myself as I see the soldiers approaching me. A light engulfs them, probably a buff that came from their commander, who is just looking at me like I am not a threat.

But when one of them decides to attack me, a dagger hits him in the back of his head. It was time already that they jumped to help me! The dagger does not kill it and but makes him fail, and I blast him with a [Firebolt].

"Amber, there are too many for us!"

And where is Aurelia? I hope she did not take my order to hide too seriously.

"I should have guessed you came with people..." Maxwell finds a place to sit and crosses his legs, placing his elbow on the leg he has on top. "Come on, they are just 2 puny adventurers, kill them fast!

Lucio smiles and throws something at his feet. It creates a cloud of smoke that is impossible to see through. He starts to attack from hidden spots, moving back from the cloud to break the line of sight before attacking. The soldiers brave towards him, but he answers by using his magic dagger.

I cannot see either Aleria or Lisa around. Maybe they are still in hiding. And even then, I just need the pressure to be off from me. I don't want to use another area of attack as I can burn anything of value or even the prisoners if I use spells like [Inferno] carelessly. I still go for [Cold Aura] and take distance from the cages so as not to affect the elves and felin.

Lucio keeps using his daggers, which seem to return to him after using them. Together, we slowly kill the camp, until the last 4 decide to run away. We let them run, they are no longer a menace. Lucio attempted to go for one, but I raised my hand to make them stop.

Maxwell was observing with certain amusement. But he doesn't seem to care about the lives of his soldiers. He stands up and casts a spell.

I get into a defensive position, but the spell doesn't go to me or Lucio. He casts the same power he used to detain me on his soldiers, killing the remaining 4. The spears come out of the ground and go through their necks.

What a despicable asshole! I was letting them run, and I didn't attack anyone who was not a threat, only casting to kill when they attacked me or went for the prisoners. He finished them off just like that.

"I think that is enough," Maxwell smirks at me. "I will have to go get more soldiers now... do you know how hard it is to order around a herd of animals with resources on their back?"

"What's your problem? They were your men!" Lucio answers.

"Yes, ones you seemed to enjoy killing one by one..." Maxwell looks at me. "Seems I understimulated you, using such a basic bolt spell to kill with speed and precision... your pelt will make a fine decoration when I am back home."

He makes a lance appear in his hand and stands up; now he was going to fight himself.
