Chapter 80 - Meeting the Temple Master

The reason the Temple Master chose this street was because she could see that the thing killing all the vampires was headed that way, and there was a vampire on this street, as shown on the Sanctified Map. On the video, a vampire wearing a trenchcoat stood on top of a building, looking down on the humans below with a predatory intent in his red eyes. The trench coat moved with the wind, making the vampire appear to be something not from this mortal world.

On the street below, the vampire saw a young woman moving on her own. She was in a hurry, seeming to understand that this was not a good place for her to be at this time in the night. "It's going to kill her," someone said. "Send out team five. They should be able to handle this vampire," someone ordered.

Apart from tracking the supernatural, the intensity of the glow on the Sanctified Map showed how powerful a supernatural was. From the map, someone in the hall judged that this vampire was quite weak. "They will never reach her in time. Let us just watch and see what happens," the Temple Master said. Her words were cold, but everyone understood that she was right.

The vampire was just about to jump down onto the young woman when Cate appeared on the roof. No one saw how she appeared right behind the vampire. One moment she was not there, and in the next instant, she stood right behind the vampire, ready to strike. The vampire sensed her presence and attacked with its claws. For a young vampire, he was powerful, but his blow did not make Cate flinch at all.

The vampire cried out, having shattered all the bones in his body from striking Cate in the face. Cate did not give him time to enjoy the pain. She pounced on him like a bat out of hell. She bit into his neck and began sucking him dry. In the hall, the humans watched all this with confusion on their faces. Vampires hated drinking each other's blood due to the dead taste, and yet they could only assume that the thing they were seeing right now was a vampire.

"It does not appear on the map," the Temple Master said. When everyone noticed this, their confusion just grew. When Cate drained the struggling vampire in less than a minute, the hall went completely silent. They could all see that the vampire was now a shadow of his former self from a minute ago. As they were still thinking about how this was possible, Cate bit off the vampire's head, chewed and swallowed within a second. She then went on to eat the vampire whole. The entire affair lasted not more than two minutes.

When Cate was done eating, she felt that she had been too hasty by eating this one. After eating the first vampire, Cate had begun capturing and sending the vampires into the Wandering Palace that was still above the city. This was only the second vampire she had eaten in this city. "I perhaps felt that he was too weak and not worth storing for the future," she said.

As she was preparing to fly away from this place, Cate felt someone observing her. She frowned and looked directly at the cameras on the tall building over. "Hmmmph," she snorted once, and the camera was blown to pieces. In the hall, the video was cut off abruptly. "Did she sense us?" someone said. "That is impossible. Even the most powerful supernaturals cannot see through a camera to track us down in such a manner."

The Temple Master had just finished saying this when the screen on the wall began shaking as though it was possessed by something that did not agree with the rapidly changing laws of this world. "What is going on?" the Temple Master asked. There was a trace of panic in her voice. She could not get rid of it no matter what she did. The young man seated by the computer began typing at an incredible speed in an attempt to diagnose the issue.

The lights in the hall began flickering. In the next moment, all the other screens in the hall went out, and so did the lights. When the bulbs let out light once more, Cate was crawling out of the large screen with her hands and legs bent out of order. Her hair was moving about wildly. The hall was filled with screams and a scent of fear. Some weak-hearted people had heart attacks and died on the spot.

Cate grabbed the edges of the large screen and pulled her way out. In the hall, Cate stood before the screen with all eyes focused on her enticing yet devilish form. In the eyes of the humans in this place, Cate was an evil worse than anything their minds could conjure up. They had seen her eating a vampire just a few seconds ago. She treated the vampire in the same manner a human would treat a chicken. With these horrific images still playing in their minds, Cate now stood a few inches from them. This was a nightmare they all wanted to wake up from.

"What are you?" The Temple Master moved forward and stood before Cate. All the other people in the hall stopped screaming and trying to flee. In the face of this apex predator, they all felt that if they tried fleeing, they would be the first to die. This feeling was so overwhelming that no one dared lift a foot off the floor.

Cate looked around, and when she saw the emblem of the Divine Temple, she understood what was going on. Cate smiled at the Temple Master as she wiped the blood off her mouth. The smile was beautiful, but all the humans saw was evil laughing in the face of all that was good and holy. Cate walked around the Temple Master, looking over the woman from head to toe.
