==============
There was no sound.
There was no impact.
The pure white pillar, as if light condensed to its utmost, silently but completely swallowed Aldias. Facing that sight, Spasslowered the "Fragarach" he had been holding and let out a small breath.
(…What am I doing?)
Schupass's heart held neither the sense of accomplishment from defeating Aldias nor the guilt of killing a child… it was merely self-loathing.
(Screaming so disgracefully, it's not like me…)
As expected, when it came to him, his emotions unconsciously became uncontrollable. But that was the end of it. Once swallowed by that light, he was undoubtedly not alive. The Light of Genesis. Nothing could exist within the starting light that birthed all. To create one, it returned everything to zero.
(…I need to switch gears. For now, end this war, and…)
Spassshook his head and looked down at the ground, but a sudden chill made him snap his gaze back to the light. In an instant, the pure white pillar exploded with a roar, and Aldias reappeared.
"—!? Impossible!?"
Schupass's eyes widened in astonishment at Aldias, who reappeared completely unharmed. It was impossible. Why was he alive? Why could he exist?
Aldias shouted past Schupass, who was rigid with confusion.
"Ehit!! Give me everything!!"
"DON'T TELL ME TWICE!!"
Aldias held the sword gripped in both hands at his waist, propelling himself towards Spasswith magic that burst forth as if exploding. Black magic erupting from the sword mixed with white magic, increasing its momentum even further.
Seeing Aldias rapidly approaching, Spassprepared to intercept, but then he finally saw it.
"Is that… thread?"
Fine black threads were wrapped around Aldias's entire body, as if covering him. Though called fine threads, they were not visible to the human eye, being extremely thin and small. They were only perceptible at a level where magic could be sensed.
"Could it be…!?"
And then he realized. Their true identity…
Concept Magic: [Sealing God Black Chains]
An incorporeal artifact made of magic, created by concept magic. It held only one concept…
'I will absolutely not let you escape.'
This was finely divided down to the micro-unit, covering his body and spirit to prevent his body and soul from collapsing. However, at the same time, Aldias felt an inexpressible agony throughout his body.
"Sealing God Black Chains" was originally meant to restrain a target, not to protect it. Even at this very moment, it was merely forcefully suppressing his collapsing body and soul. The stronger the restraint to prevent collapse, the greater the proportional agony that surged through his entire body, as if his heart was being crushed.
(My whole body… feels like it's going to be pulverized…!!)
He suppressed the collapse of his body with "Sealing God Black Chains," and his body, which began to crumble from the unbearable pain, was forcibly pieced back together with regeneration magic. With collapse and regeneration occurring simultaneously in his body, an unimaginable pain assailed Aldias. Even so, Aldias did not stop.
(Any longer in this protracted battle is a disadvantage! I'll end everything here!!)
(You damn annoying old man! I'll blow you away without a trace!!)
Aldias's magic and Ehit's magic swelled, clashed, and burst apart. It was no longer a mere clash of magical power. The enormous torrent of magic absorbed the surrounding mana particles, further increasing its power.
(Kill him.)
(Kill him here.)
(Die now.)
(Die gracefully.)
No more. He couldn't hold on any longer.
This isn't enough. It won't reach.
Demand more! Struggle more! Shout more! Believe more! Rise higher! More… more, more, more!!
((Surpass your limits!!))
The extreme will of two men seeking power. The resolve of two who should never have met, at this very moment, created a power that rewrote the laws of the world.
Concept Magic: [Sword That Kills Gods]
The concept of "God-slaying" created by the intersection of the wills of two geniuses who had reached the abyss of magic. It manifested in the world as magic.
Aldias, transformed into a single streak of meteor, approached Schupass, tearing through the world. "God" was "World." "World" was "Everything." All that touched that light closed its life. The earth cracked. The sky split. Logic vanished. Magic was consumed. It moved forward, killing and devouring everything in its path.
Its danger was noticed by Schupass, who faced it, faster than anyone else.
(That… is no good. I must not take that hit. That… is a power that can kill me.)
However, Spassdid not flee from that power. His reason immediately urged him to retreat. That was temporary. If he weathered this, there would be countless ways to counterattack. But at the same time, his instincts and experience as a god told him.
—That it was unavoidable.
Evasion? Defense? Don't be foolish. That would devour such options whole. No, such options were already killed. That was its nature. His death was already bound by causality. The moment its activation was permitted, his existence was removed from the world. The world's concept itself was rewritten.
(Then, there is only one option I can take…)
A dazzling light emanated from the magic sword Spassheld aloft—"Fragarach." It was not the sunlight that illuminated the world. Nor was it the grace that brought hope to people. Nor was it the dawn that heralded tomorrow. It was the Light of Return, bringing everything back to "nothingness."
(Along with that causality, I will erase everything!!)
To counter Aldias's distorted light that brought chaos, a holy light that restored order shook the world.
Sōsei no Ibuki Futatsu gu no Sadame (Breath of Genesis, Dual Decree)
The light of judgment that authorized existence in a pristine world. The absolute blade that swiftly condemned all obstacles.
"HAAAAAAH!!"
"HAAAAAAH!!"
The auroras, carrying their respective thoughts… collided.
It was as if the world itself exploded with Aldias and Spassat its center. A sound like something cracking echoed, followed by an explosion so immense that calling it a roar would be an understatement. Plasma shot across the sky. The earth trembled as if the very stars were terrified and shaking. An impact that swallowed and then sought to spew out everything.
It turned all the monsters and false angels on the ground into dust, and even the true humans were crushed by its overwhelming presence. It was truly the sight of the world's end. The sight of the true world's birth. The clash of powers was in equilibrium for a moment, but gradually, Aldias's sword began to be pushed back.
The power that governed the abyss of magic, capable of rewriting causality. It was a truth that when powers clashed, the one with greater pure power affected the world more. Even with the combined full power of Aldias and Ehit, they couldn't reach Schupass. The pure white light traveled up the sword and extended to Aldias's body. The light eroded his flesh, and his body began to crackle and splinter.
"Give up!! Even if you combine your powers, you cannot reach me!!"
"Guuuh!!"
As if proving Schupass's words, Schupass's magic began to swallow Aldias's magic.
"Miracles don't happen! Fate doesn't change! This is the limit of you humans now!!"
It was more like a shriek. A scolding that thrust reality upon ignorant children. Yet, it was also an internal struggle, as if trying to convince himself. Hearing it, Aldias became certain.
"Ah… you're just trapped in the past, aren't you?"
"…Huh?"
"The reason you're so negative about miracles must be because you fantasize about a future that might have been…!"
Aldias knew nothing about Schupass. Even so, he could infer that Spasshad lost something precious.
"Maybe she could have been saved! Maybe there was a different future! Maybe it was despair that could have been avoided! You just don't want to admit that fact!!"
The hatred he felt was real. The disappointment that welled up was real. That's why he tried to destroy humanity, to save it. Because he thought that doing so would be the greatest offering to her.
But what if it wasn't? What if Rosita's death, humanity's corruption, wasn't a tragedy caused by him? What if it was her fate to die there? What if it was just bad luck?
If I can't accept her death, where should I direct these emotions? Where should I vent them? What should I do for her?
I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. So…
"You couldn't bear the despair you felt! You thought you had to eradicate the cause of that despair! But that's just your own sense of values, after all!!"
"—!?"
"What you wanted to protect wasn't our world!! It was your ideal, your own world!! What kind of god are you, don't flatter yourself!! Your emotions are just a fit of pique against our world, which couldn't save something precious!!"
"N-No!? I, I for her sake—"
"Don't use others as an excuse!!"
Spasschoked on his words at Aldias's roar.
"The dead don't speak! They don't talk about the future! So, it's up to those left behind to inherit their will!!"
He recalled the faces of his fallen comrades. And the faces of his now-deceased parents.
"But listen, it's up to us to decide! What we will accomplish in this generation, inheriting that will, and what we will entrust to the next. That is our own responsibility!!"
Aldias gripped the hilt of his sword tightly and roared.
"There's no way we'd lose to a half-assed person who can't even honestly speak their own feelings!!"
No words of rebuttal came. No. That's not true. This is my will itself. It's easy to say that. Yet, the words were stuck in his throat, unable to come out. He felt as if everything he had built up would crumble if he uttered them.
"—Eh?"
At that moment, the power transmitted through the sword Spassheld increased in weight. What he initially thought was a misunderstanding began to occur intermittently, and gradually, Schupass's power began to be pushed back.
"W-Why!? Where is this power coming from!?"
Had Aldias and Ehit been holding back? Impossible. There was no reason for them to do that. Then where did this power come from…?
"—tte"
A small voice reached Schupass's confused ears. It was the form of a faint thought, rising from the ground.
"Do your best!!"
"Don't lose!!"
"Lord Aldias!!"
"Win!!"
"Go!!"
"Just a little more!!"
"If you lose, you're in for it!!"
"Hang in there!!"
Demihumans, beastmen, dragon-kin… and humans… All the races living in Tortus wished for Aldias's victory, shouting their thoughts.
If the former inhabitants of Tortus had seen this sight, they would have doubted their own eyes. For humans, the Demihuman Aldias was an enemy of over a thousand years. While they might wish for his death, they would never wish for his victory. But those present saw it. They saw it. The Demon King's back. The figure who bore everything and saved them from the vortex of despair. Not only that. There were soldiers whose lives were saved by other Demihuman soldiers. There were soldiers whose friends were saved by beastmen they had looked down upon.
They too must have their own thoughts. They must have hatred. Yet, they still reached out. They weren't forgiving. Even so, they believed it was the best way to help their comrades, and they had no doubt it would lead to victory.
A young human soldier muttered to himself.
Oh, damn it. What is this? Weren't demihumans just superior wild monsters? Weren't beastmen abandoned by God, like mere beasts? What's… what's the difference between them and us humans!?
Therefore, he shouted. If they could do it, there was no way they couldn't. There were countless things he couldn't forgive. But today… just at this moment, he resolved to put a lid on everything. Living the future with his comrades was infinitely more important than taking revenge or shouting his grievances. His fallen comrades surely wished for that too.
So he shouted. Win. Don't lose. Win, and protect our future.
At that moment, a bridge, a rickety suspension bridge on the verge of collapsing, spanned the previously impassable chasm between the races. Yet, it was undeniably a bridge connecting both sides.
—And that bridge stirred an even greater miracle.
Miledi was the first to notice it.
"No way… is this, could it be Concept Magic…?!"
The pinnacle of magic, activatable by those who reached its ultimate realm, possessing an "extreme will." That, which even the Liberators could only create three of, was being generated from the thoughts of each and every soldier. Of course, this didn't mean the Liberators were inferior to them. Their magical talent was incomparable. Miledi was confused, but a hypothesis quickly formed in her mind.
Miledi had a long-standing question to begin with. Without being arrogant, why could they, powerful individuals like the Liberators, only create three Concept Magic spells? And Aldias was the same. Despite possessing talent surpassing theirs, he only created one Concept Magic, "Sealing God Black Chains." Aletia, who was at his level, hadn't created any. Even if the vague concept of "extreme will" was the basis, she wondered if the completion of Concept Magic wasn't proportional to magical talent…
The answer finally became clear now. Magical talent, after all, was merely the vessel necessary for constructing Concept Magic. What was poured into it was an extreme will powerful enough to overwrite the laws of the world.
And the world was not something that should be easily rewritten by an individual. It was a "miraculous act" that first manifested when the thoughts of the people living within it converged. That was the true nature of Concept Magic. The convergence of humanity's will, so diverse in race, personality, memories, dreams, and recollections… was not easily achieved.
But what if it could be achieved? What if the thoughts of hundreds of thousands of humans overlapped and were poured into Aldias, this enormous vessel?
Concept Magic: [I Entrust the Future to You]
Magic that transforms the hopes of people wishing for the future into power. A new pinnacle that embodies humanity's potential.
"Ha, haha…"
Miledi unconsciously let out a laugh. Goodness, what a child. That child reached the pinnacle that they, the Liberators, could never reach. Of course, Aldias had no such intention. He had only ever chosen the best option. But his way of life had influenced many. Like a ripple spreading from a droplet in water, the ripples gained momentum, finally transforming into a massive wave capable of reaching even a god.
Facing this miracle, was she just going to watch? No way. As the leader of the Liberators. More than anything, as someone born in the same world as them—
"Take it all, you bastard!!"
Miledi spread her arms wide towards the sky.
A torrent of energy surged from the ground, pouring into Aldias's back.
"Ehit!!"
"DAMN IT!! THIS IS THE LAST TIME!!"
A pure white light was unleashed from Aldias's body. It was like a blank canvas. The power from the ground joined it, and various colors were painted over it.
Red, making the heart burn with confidence and passion…
Yellow, innocently enveloping with hope and joy…
Green, healing and relaxing mind and body…
Blue, vast and celebrating freedom to the utmost…
Pink, steeped in the happiness of thinking of someone and being thought of…
White, overflowing with all possibilities…
And black, the culmination of intermingling emotional colors, bringing peace to the world.
The white and black light overflowing from "Claiomh Solais" mingled with a diverse array of colors. Aldias wielded his sword, transforming the thoughts of people into power.
"S-Such a thing…! This is…!? Impossible!?"
Schupass, who should have been superior, was gradually pushed back. Schupass's sword, which was pure white, was being pushed by the rainbow-colored sword. Schupass, as a god, had completed… or rather, isolated himself with a lonely sword.
"I cannot lose!! To never repeat my mistakes!! I must save the world, save humanity!!"
"This world doesn't ask for your charity!! Indeed, humanity is imperfect! But precisely because we are imperfect, we hold hands! We will carve our own path! Your existence is unnecessary in our ideal world!!"
The equilibrium lasted only for an instant. Aldias's raised sword shattered Schupass's sword into pieces. Then, he raised his sword high to the heavens.
The colorful light it emitted had already lost the shape of a sword, piercing the sky as an aurora so immense it could only be described as a pillar dividing the world.
"In this imperfect world, we will live!! Your ridiculous ideal—!"
The pillar of light raised to the heavens…
"—Be shattered here!!"
He brought it down.
Schupass, staring blankly at the sight, clearly saw it. Aldias bringing down the pillar of light, which had swelled to an absurd size. And the figures of the people supporting his back.
Not only that. The hearts of people evacuated to various places, thinking of someone. The souls of heroes who fell on the battlefield. Aldias's power interfered even with the laws of the world, connecting with all living beings and those who, even in death, remained in the present world. A connection of will spread explosively from person to person. That connection could not be completely severed, even by divine power.
(This, is…)
Spassspread his arms, as if to accept the surging torrent of light.
(The power of human will…)
The rainbow-colored pillar, cleaving the world, enveloped Schupass.
