Dorne was in a state of celebration because the flower of Dorne, their princess, had returned.
The people celebrated for weeks, with the nobles handing out food publicly on the orders of Oberyn and Doran.
In the palace, Oberyn was looking at Ra with a look of utter betrayal. "How could you? Do you have a golden-haired sister I can.. have fun with?" Oberyn asked when Ra after Elia announced they wished to be married.
Elia sighed at his antics. "No, but I do have more than thirty brothers. I can get all of them to lightly hit you once, and we will see if you survive the third." Ra said, getting a horrified look from the people at the table.
"I pity your mother," Doran muttered, sipping tea. Ra was about to retort but was interrupted by Rhaenys, who was sitting on his lap.
Rhaenys opened her mouth and said, "Aaaa." Ra got the signal and fed her a spoonful of food before feeding Aegon, who was on his other lap.
"Come, children. Uncle Oberyn will feed you," Oberyn said, looking at his adorable niece and nephew, eager to dote on them.
They looked at him and shook their heads. Oberyn had a look of utter devastation at that.
He glared at Ra. "You take my sister and her children from me? I wish to duel you." Oberyn said, and as he realized what he was doing, he was about to retract the statement.
Ra was quick to respond, however. "I accept," he said with a grin as he fed the kids.
Rhaenys held his cheeks. "No, scary," she said, pulling at them as his bloodthirsty grin frightened the children.
Ra chuckled and kissed their foreheads. "Give me a moment, children. Until then, stay with your soon-to-be only living uncle." Ra said, handing the kids over to the chuckling Doran.
Ra got up and kissed Elia, who rolled her eyes and held his cheek. "I want my brother alive for our marriage," she said.
Ra shrugged. "All I heard was he is mine to do as I please after the marriage," he said with a teasing smile, kissing her again.
Elia shrugged. "As you wish," she said.
Oberyn glared at Ra. "You think you frighten me? I have fought men bigger than you," Oberyn said, standing with fire in his eyes.
"The bedroom does not count," Ra countered as blunt weapons were brought for the fight.
"They count in my book. You can do it, Oberyn," Ellaria Sand said, encouraging her lover.
Ra chose a sword, and Oberyn chose a spear.
As the match started, Oberyn circled Ra with a defensive stance while Ra stood there with a grin, twirling the sword between his fingers.
Oberyn sighed and then dove in with a roar, thrusting his spear at Ra. Ra caught the spear in one hand and tapped Oberyn's head with the sword, ending the match.
At Ra's request, the wedding was held in a secluded place where no people were around.
Ra used the help of some Nightshade people to decorate an island and prepare the feast for the wedding.
The wedding was a personal affair, and only the immediate family of the Martells were there.
Doran, his wife and kids, Oberyn, his lovers, and bastards were the only ones present.
Nightshade marriage customs were not set in stone, just a celebration and vows that the bride and groom give each other.
"Well, we made the wedding secretive. Now, where is your family?" Oberyn asked.
Ra smiled and pointed up.
The Martells looked up in confusion, only to see a vast figure approaching from the sky. It gleamed in the evening sun.
"A dragon," Nymeria Sand shouted in joy as the dragon stopped midair some distance away from them.
One by one, many figures leaped from the dragon and landed on the ground. They were Ra's brothers, the custodians, who had arrived in formal clothes for their brother's wedding.
One by one, figures as tall as Ra emerged, hugging him tightly and then introducing themselves to the Martells politely.
After all his brothers had descended, the dragon descended slowly. His golden scales gleamed with hints of platinum at the tips.
He descended and the scales rippled like molten sunlight. The wings dissolved into motes of light, and the massive dragon shrank, emerging as a humanoid, laughing and hugging his son.
"Father," Ra muttered with affection as he embraced the golden dragon.
Elia was a little overwhelmed, but Ra had told her about his family long ago, and she had mentally prepared for it.
The golden dragon looked at Elia like a doting father and placed his hand on her head.
The family took the next hour to explain the whole thing to the stunned Martells.
"Can you turn into a dragon and fly me, please?" Nymeria asked, and before anyone could stop her, the golden dragon chuckled.
"I would love to take all the children and show them what the world looks like from above the clouds," he said, and the children cheered.
After all the explaining was done, they went on with the marriage. Elia and Ra exchanged vows of love and support as they kissed under the stars.
The bride and groom were given gifts by everyone. The custodians gifted Ra handmade wooden sculptures, and Elia received extravagant dresses and jewelry.
It was after everyone was done that the golden dragon stepped forward and gifted Ra and Elia with his blessing.
He had talked with Elia beforehand, and she wished to undergo the blood exchange so she could live as long as Ra.
A drop of red blood entered Elia, and the dragon smiled. "Your body will transform tonight as you sleep," he said, and the feast continued.
At night, he took all the children on his back and gave them a ride through the skies.
After the wedding, that night, Elia and Ra lay naked under the sheets, with Elia's head resting on Ra's chest.
"Is there a way for my family to live longer as well? I know your father agreed to prolong my children's lives. Am I being too selfish?" she asked Ra and sighed.
Ra chuckled at her words. "I can help your brothers and their children. But what of their children and the generations after that?" Ra asked, and Elia had no answer for him.
"Would their children wish to live longer than their sons and daughters?" Ra asked softly, and Elia shook her head.
She took off the sheets and sat on his stomach. "We'll worry about that later," she whispered and kissed Ra.
