Chapter 56 - BUTZ: Chapter 56

Kyōraku Callum stroked his chin, pondering, "Could this be related to my visit to the Eleventh Division?"

Time flew by. The next morning, needing to go to the Eleventh Division, Kyōraku Callum woke early. The air outside the barracks was exceptionally fresh, a characteristic of the Fourth Division's location.

Before he reached the Captain's office, he encountered an unfamiliar Shinigami.

This Shinigami wore unusual attire—a blue canvas cloth draped over his back, embroidered with blooming chrysanthemums, the Eleventh Division's emblem, symbolizing sincerity and purity.

Kyōraku Callum didn't recognize him but understood his role: an Eleventh Division member here to escort him to the Captain-Commander, Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni.

"Good day, Lieutenant Kyōraku Callum," the Shinigami said respectfully. "I'm an Eleventh Division member, sent by the Captain-Commander to escort you to the Eleventh Division barracks."

Kyōraku Callum nodded with a smile. "Thank you for your trouble. Please lead the way."

The Shinigami turned and gestured for Kyōraku Callum to follow. They walked towards the Eleventh Division barracks. The Seireitei was vast, and the Fourth Division was secluded, so the journey took some time. By the time they arrived, it was late morning.

The Shinigami led Kyōraku Callum through the Eleventh Division's courtyard and towards the rear. After navigating numerous corridors, they stopped before a room. A large 'Ban' (prohibition) character was written in orange ink on a black curtain hanging before the door.

The escort stopped before the curtain. "Captain-Commander Yamamoto, Lieutenant Kyōraku Callum has arrived." He turned and left without waiting for a response.

"Please enter, Lieutenant Kyōraku," a steady voice said, surprisingly free of age. It wasn't the Captain-Commander's voice.

Kyōraku Callum lifted the curtain and entered. The scene surprised him. He'd expected simple questioning. Besides the ever-present Iba, there were others:

Captain-Commander Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni.

Captain of the Second Division, Suì-Fēng.

Captain of the Eighth Division, Kyōraku Shunsui.

"Well, you finally made it," Kyōraku Shunsui greeted him. "We've already changed the tea several times waiting for you."

The three sat around a dark red tea table, empty teacups before them. They'd been waiting a while.

Kyōraku Callum greeted them politely. "Captain-Commander, Captain Suì-Fēng, Captain Kyōraku."

Kyōraku Shunsui said, "No need to be so formal. Just relax. We're not interrogating a criminal."

Kyōraku Callum relaxed.

"Come, have a seat," Kyōraku Shunsui said, showing consideration for his junior.

Suì-Fēng, arms crossed, had a sharp, almost murderous gaze. Kyōraku Callum didn't sense hostility. Yamamoto Genryūsai sat solemnly, his cane beside him. Kyōraku Callum felt immense pressure from him, even without released spiritual pressure.

Kyōraku Callum sat on the last cushion, awaiting questions.

After a long silence, Yamamoto Genryūsai's aged voice filled the room. "Lieutenant Kyōraku, your display of power in Hueco Mundo has piqued our curiosity about your Zanpakutō abilities. Would you demonstrate your Shikai?"

The authoritative voice was full of energy, imposing immense pressure. Kyōraku Callum understood: his strength had finally caught the Captain-Commander's attention. It had been noticed at the Shinigami Academy, but Kyōraku Shunsui had intervened. Now, his progress couldn't be ignored. This inquiry would maintain stability within the Seireitei.

Kyōraku Callum looked at Kyōraku Shunsui, who nodded in confirmation. After a moment's hesitation, Kyōraku Callum said, "My Zanpakutō is a space-type Zanpakutō. My Shikai allows me to freeze space."

Kyōraku Callum decided to conceal some of his Shikai's abilities. Spatial stasis would serve as a good cover.

"A space-type Zanpakutō?!" Yamamoto's eyes flickered with surprise. Space-type Zanpakutō were extremely rare in Soul Society.

"I can demonstrate it here," Kyōraku Callum offered.

Kyōraku Shunsui and Suì-Fēng exchanged glances before standing. Kidō light and incantations emanated from them, enveloping the room.

"It should withstand a Captain-level attack," Kyōraku Shunsui said; his Kidō skills were quite impressive.

Kyōraku Callum slowly drew his Zanpakutō. "Freeze space, Katen Kyōkotsu!"

The three Captains and Iba simultaneously sensed the spatial anomaly. The normally flowing spiritual particles were suddenly blocked, like running on land and suddenly being thrown into mud. Everything hindered movement.

The three Captains attempted to break through the spatial stasis with their spiritual pressure. Kyōraku Callum sensed three powerful forces within the space he controlled. He sighed, realizing his spiritual pressure was being rapidly depleted, and deactivated his Shikai.

"Captains, your spiritual pressure is a bit excessive," he said wryly. His Shikai's first ability was powerful, but it couldn't control three Captains, especially with the strongest Shinigami among them.

"A remarkable Shikai," Yamamoto Genryūsai said, a hint of appreciation in his eyes.

Few Zanpakutō abilities impressed him, but Kyōraku Callum's was one of them.

Spatial stasis, if used effectively, was incredibly powerful.
