Chapter 34 - Taking An Inch for A Mile

Xie Daiyu dropped his gaze and looked at the hand that was holding his wrist. His eyes flickered slightly, and he raised his head before looking at Ruan Chanchan. "What?"

Though he didn't lose his temper like he did with Yun Fu, there was a certain edge to his tone which made Ruan Chanchan pull her hand away in an instant. When Xie Daiyu noticed the scent of primarose disappearing and turning thin, he pursed his lips, looking even more sullen than usual.

"I wanted to exchange the meat for the instant noodles that you ate the last time," said Ruan Chanchan. As she was too focused on looking at the large chunk of flesh that most probably resembled the leg of a dinosaur, she didn't notice the look of disappointment in the eyes of the mer.

"You mean to say the worms that I ate the last time?" Xie Daiyu asked Ruan Chanchan, who frowned in confusion.

"Worms?"

"The worms that you were eating that night."

"Those were not worms—" Ruan Chanchan caught herself in the middle before shaking her head. Was she really going to tell this savage how instant noodles were made? That would be similar to knocking her head on the boulder.

She then corrected herself and said, "Those were foods from the holy land of the Beast Goddess; it was not something that I picked up from the ground."

She had no shame in pushing the blame to the Beast Goddess. Anyway, the Gods and Goddesses were the reason why she was stuck here in the first place, so they better suck it up.

Xie Daiyu was already suspicious of the worms that he had eaten the last time. They tasted even better than the meat that he ate every day, which was enough to prove that the food came from the world of the gods. Upon hearing the food came from the lands of the Gods, he knelt down on the ground.

"What–what are you doing?" Ruan Chanchan was stunned when she saw Xie Daiyu kneel in front of her.

"You are the manifestation of the beast goddess. She has blessed you with her blessings," stated Xie Daiyu with a hint of admiration and respect. "Paying you my respect is the least I can do." Though he couldn't understand why the Beast Goddess blessed Ruan Chanchan of all people, he could only trust the decision that the Goddess had made.

Ruan Chanchan felt rather awkward when she saw the mer kneel in front of her. She said to the mer, "There is no need to make such a grand gesture. You can just exchange that piece of meat with me." She shamelessly pointed to the largest piece. Her brother was too thin; he needed as much meat as possible to get strong.

'Maybe I will add some antiparasitic medicines in the meat as well,' thought Ruan Chanchan. Though she was unaware of how much meat these beastwomen, men and mer ate, she knew that Ruan Zeqiu ate a lot of meat, and yet he was quite thin. Maybe it was because of the parasites growing in his body.

Ruan Chanchan knew that eating raw meat came with a lot of side effects. These beast mers might be strong and powerful, but they were still human in some way or another. What if they were suffering from the same problem as those who didn't cook their meat well?

Ruan Chanchan decided to try her luck tonight.

But first. The meat.

She dropped her gaze and looked at the mer who was still kneeling in front of her.

When Xie Daiyu heard that Ruan Chanchan wanted to take the meat, he frowned. Though the worms that he ate were really good in taste, exchanging them for meat, the offer sounded way too extravagant.

When Ruan Chanchan saw that the mer was not speaking, she crossed her arms and questioned, "What's the matter?"

"It's too unfair." Xie Daiyu finally spoke up after a long battle with his own thoughts. "I ate only a small bowl of worms, and I have to give such a big piece of meat. I nearly got killed today during the hunt; that's why I got this meat."

Ruan Chanchan wanted to say that the instant noodles were way more precious than the meat that she was asking for, but before she could, Xiao Xi spoke to her, "You need to be nice. Don't forget that you are trying to integrate into this tribe, Darling. He is the son of the tribe leader; he will be able to help you at times of need if you befriend him."

Ruan Chanchan: "..."

If you put it like this, how was she supposed to fight for her rights!? She even had to sleep on an empty stomach that night. Did this mer care about her sleeping hungry?

Ruan Chanchan looked down and took in the appearance of the mer in front of her. Her eyes flickered slightly when she saw that he was pouting and looked a bit troubled, most probably still upset about the offer that she had made.

Sighing, she ran her hand through her hair. She said to the mer, "How about this? I will make the noodles… I mean the worms for you for the next seven days."

"What do you mean by the next seven days?"

Only then did Ruan Chanchan recall that these people didn't know about weeks and months. They only had days which went by as Nakka (Monday), Oru (Tuesday), Gruna (Wednesday), Telu (Thursday), Zira (Friday), Vakra (Saturday) and Shunla (Sunday).

She scratched her chin and then said to the mer, "I will cook the worms for you till Shunla."

When Xue Daiyu heard that he was going to get the worms till Shunla, his eyes brightened and the offer looked much more tempting. However, he was still hesitant as he raised two of his fingers and said to Ruan Chanchan, "Two times. Twice."

"You are taking a mile in exchange for an inch—"

"He is the son of the tribe leader," reminded Xiao Xi, causing Ruan Chanchan to pause. She glared at the mer and then breathed hard. Damn it! No matter what, rich brats always got what they wanted.
