Caelum finally came to immobilize Reina, until she was finally captured by the warden on guard.
She thrashed about, begging to be released. But of course he wasn't let go.
The Chief Warden went straight to Selene who had fallen to the ground. He knelt down in front of her and examined the wound on her thigh.
"The wound is quite deep, you should be treated immediately," he said.
"I know that."
In front of everyone, he immediately picked her up in a bridal style pose and carried Selene away from the prison grounds. Before leaving, he briefly turned to Reina as well as the prison warden who was currently holding her.
"You have broken the rules by stealing a knife from the kitchen and also attacking a prisoner with the intention of killing her. Put her in isolation for two weeks!" he ordered.
Everyone was wide-eyed with shock as soon as they heard it, because no one could ever stand being in solitary confinement even for just three days. The damp, cold and darkness of the room made anyone in it feel frustrated and depressed.
However, Caelum didn't care and he immediately took Selene to the medical room. "Get Doctor Smith to the medical room now!"
"Yes, sir!" two guards ran to the warders' dormitory where the doctor was staying.
Selene wrapped her arms around Caelum's neck and rested her head on his shoulder. Her body felt so weak and trembling from the pain she was feeling.
"Did you come because you saw the morse code I gave you on the security camera?" he asked.
It turned out that the reason why Selene had raised her hand and opened and clenched it several times was to give Caelum an SOS.
She clenched her hand three times to show 3 dots and then opened it three times, which showed 3 lines and finally clenched it again three times. The woman knew that the man was always watching through the surveillance camera.
However, he admitted that he did not see the Morse code that Selene gave.
"I immediately rushed to the field when I saw her stab you."
They finally arrived at the medical room and Doctor Smith also arrived shortly after. He immediately treated the wound on Selene's thigh and stitched it up as it was quite open.
"Luckily, there was no infection due to the dust on the wound. But this way, she won't be able to do prison work for a while. If forced, the pain will be excruciating and the wound could open up again," Dr. Smith told Caelum.
Selene herself couldn't imagine that she would have to do such hard prison work under such circumstances. The reason was, when her foot did not tread it was already very painful especially if she had to use her right foot to walk.
"Alright, I understand. You can go back to your room, doctor," Caelum said.
After the doctor left, his focus returned to Selene. His gaze was as sharp as ever, but this time it seemed to show another emotion that he had never shown to anyone before.
"You are not allowed to do any work until your leg is fully recovered. I will inform the warden in your block about this," he said.
"Okay, so I'll be left alone in my cell with nothing to do?" she asked.
"That is, unless you want me to keep you company in your room until your shift is over," he replied.
Selene was a little surprised to hear this, as she had not expected Caelum to offer to keep her company while the other prisoners worked and she was alone in her cell.
"You must be joking," she said.
"Of course I am." He pulled out his chair and sat beside Selene's bed. "I have more important things to do than just sit around and keep you company."
However, in reality Caelum sat quietly in his chair for the rest of the afternoon to keep Selene company in the medical room. He was holding a book in his hand, and just silently reading the book while Selene stared at his serious face.
"I heard that a few days ago you went to the main land. What happened there?" she asked.
Caelum remained silent and his eyes focused on the book in his hands. "Everyone is still talking about you. Even though you've been in this prison for almost three months now, it seems like you haven't disappeared from their minds."
"They're still talking about me? I guess they must be wondering what punishment I'll receive after the next trial?" she asked again.
"Isn't that obvious? You already know what the answer is." He turned the pages of the book, without turning his head.
She paused for a moment, knowing that people would expect her to get the death penalty after all her trials were over. Like he said, people demanded justice and it could be that his death was the justice they thought it was.
"Do you think I'll get the death penalty?" asked Selene again, this time causing Caelum to close the book in his hand.
"With that many victims, it's likely to happen."
He rotated his sitting position, facing her. "Or maybe you can get a life sentence in this place."
The man said that he was not the judge who would decide. Whether Selene deserved the death penalty or life imprisonment.
Of course Selene knew that. She had killed 29 people who had certainly flouted the law by judging those people alone just because they were child abusers.
Sometimes she couldn't believe she had committed all those crimes, which was why she sometimes felt so calm because she didn't feel like she had committed a crime.
"It might be silly for me to ask you this. But do you think I'm someone who deserves to be kept alive?"
The look in his eyes showed no change at all, still looking stern and also flat. However, her question was indirectly enough to set something in Caelum's mind working.
"It does sound ridiculous. After all the crimes you've committed, taking the lives of so many people. You still ask me if someone like you deserves to live," he replied.
The brown-haired woman laughed, afraid that her question was absurd and asked Caelum to forget about it. However, it would not be easy for him.
"If you're asking about the law and morality, then the answer is no. You don't deserve to live because the evil will remain as long as you live," he said. You don't deserve to live because the evil will remain as long as you live," he said again.
There was a moment before he continued his sentence that made Selene feel something inside her.
"But if you ask me, then my answer is gray. You did evil for good even though it sounds wrong, something inside me appreciates what you did."
