Chapter 30: Legends of Tomorrow – Setting the Stage

The air was thick with temporal paradoxes and the lingering scent of ancient evil. Barry and Oliver had just returned from their little time-traveling adventure, having averted a major disaster, but not without consequences. Adam, who had a 'Minor Temporal Manipulation (Instinctive)' skill, could practically feel the ripples in the timeline, like a bad case of cosmic indigestion.

" Time travel. Always a good idea. Said no one ever, especially not a guy who knows what Barry's about to break. Now, where's that hidden stash of diamonds I 'found'? Because my System is screaming 'upgrade!' and my wallet is screaming 'empty!'"

"So, you just… went back in time?" Cisco asked, his eyes wide with a mixture of awe and horror. "And you changed things? Dude, that's like, a major violation of the space-time continuum! You could have created a paradox! Or, you know, turned us all into talking squirrels!"

"It was necessary, Cisco," Barry said, looking weary. "We had to stop Savage."

"I know, I know," Adam sighed, running a hand through his hair. "But you gotta be careful with that stuff, Barry. The butterfly effect is a real thing. One tiny change, and suddenly, your favorite coffee shop never existed. Or, worse, your favorite webnovel gets cancelled. The horror!"

He turned to Joe. "Joe, you gotta talk to him. He's got a superpower that literally lets him break reality. We need to set some ground rules. Like, 'no time travel before breakfast.' Or, 'no time travel without adult supervision.' Preferably mine."

Joe just shook his head, a weary smile on his face. "I'll do my best, Adam. But he's a speedster. He tends to do what he wants."

The larger implications of Vandal Savage and the ancient, reincarnated heroes were also settling in. Ray Palmer was there, along with Sara Lance, Captain Cold, and Heat Wave. A motley crew, to be sure. But Adam knew them. He knew their future. He knew they were the nascent Legends.

He found Sara Lance leaning against a console, a cynical smirk on her face as she watched the chaos. "So, this is what saving the world looks like these days? A bunch of super-powered individuals arguing about temporal mechanics?"

"Pretty much," Adam said, offering her a sympathetic smile. "Welcome to the club. We have cookies. And occasional existential crises. You know, the usual."

Sara looked at him, a flicker of something in her eyes. "You seem… surprisingly calm about all this. And you were there with Savage. You got hit pretty hard."

"Oh, I've had worse hangovers," Adam deadpanned, shrugging. "And I've seen worse. Much worse. Trust me, when you've died as many times as I have, you start to develop a certain… detached amusement. Plus, I'm pretty sure I'm immune to bad luck now. Mostly."

Sara chuckled, a genuine laugh. "You're a strange one, Adam Stiels. But I like it. You fit right in with our brand of weird."

"It's a gift," Adam replied, beaming. He was forming connections. Important connections.

He considered attempting another death from Savage. He still had lives left from him. But the risk… the risk was too high. Savage was ancient, powerful, and unpredictable. And Adam knew he needed to save his remaining lives for the truly dangerous threats. Like Zoom. Or, you know, taxes.

Instead, he focused on his other objective: money. His next System Upgrade was going to be massive. $5,000,000. He needed to find a way to get it, quickly and efficiently, without drawing too much attention. He thought of his "Technopathic Interface" and "Enhanced Deception Detection." He thought of the vast, untapped resources of the criminal underworld. And he thought of a very elaborate, very profitable prank.

" So, we're building a time-traveling A-Team. What could possibly go wrong? Everything. Everything will go wrong. But it'll be epic! Just gotta make sure I'm funded for the inevitable alien invasions and speedster wars. My bank account is my true superpower. And maybe a few more strategic deaths. Just in case."

He spent the rest of the day subtly researching wealthy, corrupt individuals, identifying potential targets for his next "cosmic justice" operation. He was a hero, yes. But he was also a man who needed to level up. And sometimes, leveling up required a little creative accounting.

As the day ended, Adam felt the System hum with satisfaction. He had amassed the required funds.

[SYSTEM ALERT: FUNDS ACCUMULATION TIER MET! $5,000,000 ACQUIRED!]

[SYSTEM UPGRADE READY! INITIATE UPGRADE TO LEVEL 6?]

Adam grinned. "Oh, you bet your sweet bippy I'm initiating that upgrade. The multiverse isn't going to save itself. And I'm going to need more lives. And more perks. And definitely more coffee. This is going to be fun."
