Chapter 211 - 211 Envoy of the Royal Court

Reaching the main deck Chronos saw Blacksmith Smith and called out to him.

"Blacksmith Smith, hang on a moment. I need to talk with you before we're pulled in separate directions."

The dwarf stopped walking as he waited for Chronos to catch up with an annoyed expression. He wanted to get to the shipbuilding yard as soon as possible so he could observe how the flying ships were made.

"I recently acquired a skill that will let me turn that devil spear into a usable spear, but I need a safe place to forge it."

That got his attention.

"What're the requirements for forging?" he immediately asked.

"The forge needs to be able to endure cold temperatures and have multiple safety enchantments placed on it. The safety enchantments need to be of the highest grade possible as I'll be working with multiple dangerous materials at once. And I'll also need a fairly large space inside of the forge itself as I expect my new weapon to cause some chaos once it's complete."

Smith thought about where he could find such a forge.

It wouldn't be easy to find one that met all of those requirements outside of the dwarven kingdom. There certainly wasn't a single forge in the city or mages city that met all of those requirements.

Perhaps the royal forge would do but Smith had never been to the royal forge before.

"Give me a few days to call in a favor and I'll send you a system message."

"Alright but I do ask that you hurry. We've only got a tenday left before I have to destroy the devil spear."

"Don't worry it won't take me that long." He glanced towards the docks, "And I wish you luck with your more human problems."

He chuckled as he walked down the gangplank.

For a moment Chronos wondered what he meant, then he saw two groups of people on the dock that were clearly waiting for him.

One was dressed in the Ulv family livery with a group of armored knights leading them and the other wore the colors of the royal court. Both sides were glaring at each other making their intentions clear.

"We can't put this off forever. Let's see what they have to say before trying to escape this time," Gregory said while placing a hand on Chronos' shoulder.

"You're right."

Reaching out Chronos took Lyla's hand so that they wouldn't get separated in the bustle of a flying dock and Gregory did the same for Sariah. Nobody was willing to admit they just wanted to hold hands.

As they descended from the ship it was the royal court group that approached him first.

"Sir Chronos Ulv, I presume," said a man with slicked back black hair and a hooked nose that made him look like he was looking down at you at all times.

Presumably he was working as an envoy for the royal court.

"That's me. What can I do for the royal court today?"

"Your presence is needed at the royal court immediately."

Chronos instantly disliked the man, the way he spoke made it seem like everyone was beneath his notice.

"As much as I'd like to indulge in the court's fancies, both my companions and I have just finished a rather long journey and would like to rest."

Christopher Wright, the leader of the Ulv Knights and a large man in full plate mail with brown hair and a scar over his blind left eye, took that as his cue to step forward.

"We have prepared a carriage for your travels to the family estate Young Master. If you'll just follow us down, we'll be on our way."

"Wonderful, it has been too long since I last enjoyed the capital mansions delicious cooking. Is Elisebeth still working as head chef?"

"Yes, Young Master, and she has prepared quite the feast for your arrival."

The royal court's envoy looked shocked at being brushed off. This had never happened to him before; you couldn't just ignore a summons from the royal court.

"Sir Chronos," He emphasized. "I believe the royal court takes precedence over having a meal."

Looking at him again Chronos could tell that this man had never dealt with one of his clan in the past.

"I disagree with you. Very little takes precedence over good food."

"This is the royal court's summons," he spat.

The knight leader smirked at the envoy's frustrated face.

Chronos looked at him for a moment before replying, "Is the King in attendance or is it just those old blowhards trying to flex?"

For a moment the envoy looked like he had been sucker punched and didn't know how to react. Then his face turned bright red as anger built up for the first time.

"It doesn't matter if the King is in attendance or not, if the royal court commands it then all nobles must answer to the royal court," he yelled while looking like he was going to explode.

His yelling attracted the attention of everyone on the docks; they chose to watch from a distance waiting for the end of this good show.

But something in Chronos' demeanor changed at what the envoy had said. His eyes became much colder as a threatening presence started to emanate from his body.

"Indeed, nobles must answer a summons from the royal court," Chronos agreed with him.

The envoy started speaking like he had just won the argument, ignoring Chronos' threatening presence.

"Then you will depa..."

"However," Chronos cut him off and transformed into his werewolf form towering over him as he continued. "I am a part of the Beklaedning clan."

To his credit he only turned pale at Chronos' appearance whereas everyone following him backed up several feet.

The envoy looked up at him in confusion not understanding why a mere clan would matter here.

"And according to the sealed promise of the first King of the Leighla Kingdom only the King may command a member of the Beklaedning clan. So, I ask you once more, is the King in attendance?" he slowly enunciated each word of his question

For several seconds the envoy opened and closed his mouth like a fish out of water then said with a note of resignation, "No."

No matter how powerful the royal court was they couldn't break a sealed promise from the king. The king's sealed promise worked in the same way that a noble family's seal ring did but on a much grander scale.

Breaking the promise might damage the kingdom's powerbase causing them to become weaker overnight.

Chronos nodded, "Then I shall retire to my family estate and meet with the royal court in a day or two. I bid you farewell, Envoy."

The knights and servants from the family mansion smirked at the envoys' deflated look. With that Chronos turned towards his family's knights and along with his friends accompanied them down the tower to the carriage waiting below.

Behind them the envoy and his men from the royal court stood there, unsure of what to do next.
