IVAN'S POV
Serena and I headed toward the throne room. The door had barely closed behind us before I turned to face her.
"Alright. We're alone now." I folded my arms across my chest, returning to the conversation. "Start talking."
"You must have heard that Maeve and I got into a fight and that she was thrown in jail afterward. Your lovely mate tore through my face and my dress, and I have only Luna Lydia to thank for saving me from that woman." Serena's bitter eyes slid over me slowly, scanning me from head to toe with a predator's patience as she unwrapped the faux bandages she had covered herself in. "But judging by your actions, I can see clearly that you don't care—even if that woman carves a blade into your heart. Even if she has your downfall in mind. You don't care, even if she had killed me."
She was testing me. I could see it. She wanted me to deny her accusations, to reassure her—like always.
