"Watch out, Senior Haneul," Shisui said after forming the Seal of Confrontation. He immediately created distance and spewed a massive, scorching fireball from his mouth—the Uchiha clan's classic Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique.
Waves of heat rolled towards Haneul. He could feel the high temperature on his face. A direct hit would be no joke. Body Flicker Technique! Haneul accelerated, his samurai sword drawn.
"Still so fast! But... this time, I can see you!" Shisui thought, activating his Sharingan. To him, Haneul's speed seemed to drop dramatically. This was the magic of the Sharingan. Even a one-tomoe Sharingan granted him powerful insight. With three tomoe, he could even copy and perform an enemy's ninjutsu simultaneously. In the original story, Kakashi had become the "Copy Ninja" with a single three-tomoe Sharingan, mastering over a thousand jutsu.
Clang!
Shisui blocked Haneul's sword with his own. He had lost to the Body Flicker last time, but now, its effect was limited.
"As expected of the Sharingan," Haneul praised, putting more force into his hands. Shisui felt a powerful force transmitted back, making his hands go slightly numb. He stomped his foot and retreated.
Fire Style: Phoenix Sage Fire Technique! Shisui spat out a series of small fireballs. Haneul didn't dodge, his sword becoming a blur as it precisely cut through them. When he looked up, Shisui had vanished.
A sound cut through the air. Haneul turned and saw a pair of crimson Sharingan. He was inevitably caught in a daze. It was a genjutsu. Ordinary genjutsu users needed hand seals, but the Uchiha could cast it with their Sharingan, making it almost impossible to defend against.
Genjutsu: Release! Haneul had been prepared and reacted instantly, breaking it almost immediately. Even so, it had given Shisui the perfect opportunity. He held his sword with both hands and slashed down.
Sly Mind Affecting Technique! Haneul formed hand seals in an instant. Shisui, who had been staring at him, was immediately caught. He felt like he was in a maze. How are his hand seals so fast?! This is bad! Shisui quickly broke the genjutsu. His vision returned to normal, but a samurai sword was already inches away.
What goes around, comes around. Shisui's earlier tactic had been copied and used against him. He had no time to dodge and could only instinctively raise his sword to block. The sound of steel on steel rang out. Shisui's body trembled, and he was sent flying. Haneul stood his ground, not pursuing.
"Senior Haneul's genjutsu is no less impressive than your kenjutsu," Shisui said in awe, struggling to his feet. Even with his Sharingan, he had been caught. That was no ordinary genjutsu. On top of that, his hand seal speed was incredible. Shisui considered his own speed to be fast, but Haneul was even faster.
"If you had a three-tomoe Sharingan, my genjutsu might not have worked," Haneul smiled, then asked, "Still want to fight?"
"Inspired by your Body Flicker Technique last time, Senior Haneul, I've combined it with my Sharingan to semi-create a new ninjutsu," Shisui said, forming hand seals. "Please, grant me a match!"
Phantom Body Flicker Technique! Two clones appeared on either side of him. The three of them, including the real Shisui, charged at Haneul with their swords drawn.
Only two? Haneul remembered that in the original story, he could create seven or eight, or even more. It was probably because he had just created the technique, and only had a one-tomoe Sharingan.
Konoha-Style: Willow!
Haneul raised his hand, his samurai sword becoming a blur. Shisui was shocked. Haneul's body became elusive, and countless images of his sword appeared in the air, dazzling him. He gritted his teeth and sent his two clones in first. The sound of impacts rang out continuously. The two clones were struck multiple times but didn't disappear.
Genjutsu? Shisui was stunned. Just then, a cold glint of light appeared. He instinctively tried to dodge, but found his body was frozen. A samurai sword was at his neck, followed by Haneul himself.
"I lose again," Shisui said, looking at the sword pointed at him with a dejected expression.
"Was that a clone technique?" Haneul asked curiously.
"It's the Body Flicker combined with the Clone Technique," Shisui explained. "I plan to incorporate Shadow Clones later, to create a mix of real and fake, making it even harder to distinguish."
"Impressive," Haneul finally understood how he got the moniker "Shisui of the Body Flicker." But an ordinary person couldn't learn this. The foundation wasn't the Body Flicker, but the Sharingan.
Unfortunately, no new trait appeared. He had thought that fighting an Uchiha with an awakened Sharingan would bring a surprise.
"Senior Haneul is the more impressive one," Shisui said sincerely. "Combining kenjutsu and genjutsu is truly terrifying." When he first saw Konoha-Style: Willow, he thought it was afterimages created by high-speed movement. Only later did he realize it was a genjutsu, but by then, it was too late to break free. If it was like that for him, an Uchiha, it would be even worse for other ninja.
"Konoha-Style: Willow," Haneul explained. "It was created by a Genin named Maruboshi Kosuke."
"A Genin?" Shisui was stunned. "A Genin created a sword style like this?"
"He's no ordinary Genin," Haneul said, smiling as he explained Kosuke's story.
"I see," Shisui's eyes glinted. "I understand now. That is a true Konoha ninja."
No, what did you understand? Haneul felt there was a hidden meaning in his words. Connecting it to his actions in the original story, could he already be thinking about how to maintain peace between the Uchiha clan and the village? Why were Uchiha geniuses so precocious? Shisui was like this, and so was Itachi. But Shisui had more of a moral compass than Itachi; at least he didn't massacre his entire clan.
"Thank you, Senior Haneul," Shisui said, letting out a breath, his earlier gloom gone.
"It's nothing," Haneul shook his head. "Remember to get back to training soon. You'll definitely give Kakashi a surprise then."
"I'll be back tomorrow," Shisui said with a smile. "It won't be as easy for Senior Kakashi to beat me now."
"Alright, see you tomorrow," Haneul said, sheathing his sword.
"Why not stay and have dinner with us before you go?" a voice came from a short distance away.
"Clan Head?" Shisui called out subconsciously.
Could it be Fugaku Uchiha? Haneul thought, sizing up the young man. He wore a black combat uniform and a green Jonin flak jacket, with short black hair and a calm expression. He was clearly the serious type.
"Shisui, you've awakened your Sharingan. Why didn't you tell me?" Fugaku Uchiha walked over, a rare smile on his face. For Shisui to awaken his eyes at such a young age, he was undoubtedly a genius among geniuses. Before long, the Uchiha clan would have another strong member, which would undoubtedly ease the pressure from Root and Danzo Shimura.
"My apologies," Shisui said with an apologetic look. "I forgot to tell you."
"What's there to apologize for?" Fugaku said, patting his shoulder. "If there's anything you don't understand about your newly awakened eyes, feel free to ask me."
"Yes, Clan Head," Shisui nodded quickly.
"You must be Haneul," Fugaku said, looking at him.
"I am," Haneul nodded.
"Lady Tsunade has found herself a fine student," Fugaku said with emotion. He had known of Haneul's existence before, but he hadn't realized his kenjutsu and genjutsu were also so skilled.
"You praise me too much, Uncle Fugaku," Haneul said humbly.
"Since you're here, why not stay for dinner at my house," Fugaku said with a smile. "Your master and I go way back."
What connection? You probably just want to build one, Haneul thought, but didn't say it out loud. Fugaku Uchiha, as the head of the clan, had been indecisive in the original story, neither suppressing the hardliners within the clan nor mending relations with Konoha's leadership, which led to failure on both fronts.
Haneul hesitated for a few seconds but didn't refuse. It was, after all, an invitation from the head of Konoha's largest ninja clan. "Shisui, you come too," Fugaku said, leading them back to his house.
A young woman with long black hair, Mikoto Uchiha, opened the door. There was no one else; Itachi and Sasuke had not yet been born. After dinner, Haneul left early, using the excuse that he had to see Tsunade.
"His future is limitless," Fugaku said, watching Haneul's retreating figure.
"He is Lady Tsunade's student, after all," Mikoto Uchiha nodded.
"Even if he weren't, he would still be exceptional," Fugaku shook his head. Mikoto was taken aback. It was the first time she had heard Fugaku give such high praise to a child.
"Of course, Shisui will be stronger," Fugaku said proudly. "He has the Sharingan, after all."
When Haneul returned to Tsunade's house, it was already dark. "Master," he said, walking into the living room.
"You're finally back, brat," Tsunade said weakly from the sofa. "I'm starving."
"You haven't eaten?" Haneul was taken aback. "Master, you're too lazy. Why don't you cook for yourself?"
"What did you say?" Tsunade sat up, clenched her fist, and said, "Come here."
"No way," Haneul took two steps back. "I'll go make dinner."
"Stop!" Tsunade said sharply.
Of course, Haneul didn't stop. He ran even faster and slipped into the kitchen.
"Tsk," Tsunade suddenly smiled. "That kid really isn't afraid of anything."
