Every night was strange for Zi Hao, he seems to be trapped on his own body. Experiencing various scenes every night and yet he fails to remember it once dawn arrives. It never failed to fill him with weariness and emptiness. But, when he begins to do menial chores and be with this stranger, his world seems to be filled with a new found rhythm.
That's why, he's here now. In this endless world, no, in such an empty world. He wants it to end.
His eyes reddened...
"Sorry, I don't have any money." he said mockingly,
'I don't have any use for you...' so he should die.
He feels that if he doesn't die now, he'd have to continue a worthless endeavour. At least, if he dies now, he'll be at peace with that little warmth.
He knew that she was not a good person. All his instincts tell him so, she shouldn't have any problem killing him. And that's why he's here.
"Then, you have to remember, shouldn't you?" Lin Yang said almost cruelly.
'And what if he doesn't want to, will you throw him away? It will be nice to kill him, if that's so.'
"Huh, young man. Correct your thoughts, this is a society ruled by law." Lin Yang patted his cheek and stood up from above him.
Huh? Had he said that out loud?
Lin Yang stood up and stretched. She also reached for the fallen blanket and threw it on top of him. It magically covered his entire body and only left out his head.
"Don't think anymore. Just sleep." Lin Yang walked towards the door but stopped before completely stepping out.
"I won't throw you out, at least you can still cook." She scratched her cheek before finally moving out while closing the door.
He... he can't seem to process anything.
Does that mean he can stay?
And this bed...
It's not so appropriate isn't it?
Zi Hao doesn't know how he fell asleep but with the soft breeze, warm blanket, and scent that seemingly assures him, he finally dreamt a dreamless night.
...
Lin Yang went out of the room composed. Well, as composed as she could be. It was quite awkward to face the villain expecially in that position.
Well, not to worry, she'll get used to it.
Since it's only a few hours before dawn, it's best to continue her research. It's fascinating that such compact device can hold troves of knowledge. Some were quite familiar but there were more new knowledge and concepts to explore. Maybe, in a few worlds she could...
Well, let's not violate the system guidelines.
Lin Yang sat there before a pre-set alarm put her out of revery. She closed her eyes to rest for a few minutes before proceeding to the kitchen to make some coffee.
She'll have to wait for the villain to wake and properly settle affairs. She subconsciously rubbed her eyebrows before calling out...
"System." She finally unmuted it as to clear up a few things.
The system was startled when his automated program brought him back to the host's mental space.
'No way! The host doesn't have strange hobbies, right? Kyaa! It was still too young' the system thought, and was acting like there was an infarction in his brain.
"System." Lin Yang called again suppressing the impatience to reformat this unreliable system.
The system finally reviewed the situation and finally calmed down when it saw no other body.
[[Host! Why call me now! You should breath and take a rest. It will be good for your kidneys!]] The system cheerily chattered whole simulating fireworks in her mind.
"You should have the function to view memories, right?" Lin Yang asked immediately stopping the talkative system.
[[Huh? Well, host this system will do not such thing! We're partners and this system trusts you!]]
"Just shut up and view upto the last 3 hours" Lin Yang again eased her own knotted eyebrows.
[[But...]] The system hesitated, it shouldn't intrude right? Especially such an exciting thing?
"Just do it."
At the finality in the host's voice, the system braced itself and finally viewed the memories of its host. Slowly, the loud fireworks behind it faded quietly before the system can't help but doubt life.
Well, it's not a life anyways so it's just its dramatics.
Well, it's definitely exciting. The life and death kind.
[[Wow!]] The system cheered when it saw its host turnover the villain.
"Enough of that, tell me, does this villain have mental problems?" Lin Yang boredly asked, she's quite certain that the villain has it.
[[Well, yes, host!]] The system still had the same annoying tone it has
"Hmm? You wouldn't perchance miss to mention that?" Lin Yang again asked
[[Well, host you can't expect the system to mention everything. It's to be expected that most, if not all villains would have problems in their way of thinking.]]
"Oh? Then since, you know this. Where did you run off too in the last hours?"
The system froze feeling that it was caught in a trap.
"According to this floating system manual, I have the right to submit a report for any kind of system malfunction. It's quite clear that the system should supervise the host and give advice wholeheartedly. Say, what will the system analyze when you left your host in such a dangerous situation?" Lin Yang no longer dragged the narrative but it should get across the system's hard head.
[[The system who fails to accompany the host in a dangerous situation would not serve the company's best treatment campaign. The system is to be scrapped and formatted in any case of violation.]]
[[...]]
[[Host! Have mercy!]] The system cried out. The main system and higher-ups was carrying out a new campaign for the welfare of hosts. Though it was forced labor, throughout the times the system was to be a good companion and ease these laborers into eliminating enmity and sharing benefits with each other...
The abrupt sound of a door opening stopped the system's cries before it was finally muted again.
