Now, it was just Caelum and Kaelith— as if the two of them stood together against Lorant.
Caelum kept eating his meal at an unhurried pace, chewing as though no one else existed in the room, his eyes fixed on his plate.
Lorant turned to Kaelith, a genuine smile tugging at his lips, though his tone carried an edge Kaelith didn't miss it.
"You must be having a hard time dealing with your father?" he asked.
Kaelith's fingers stilled around his spoon. The air between them thickened, and for a moment, he wondered if Lorant was fishing for information or simply trying to provoke him.
From the corner of his eye, Caelum finally glanced up, his expression unreadable, watching his husband and Lorant.
"Boy, you can relax when you're with me. I know your father, and we're only useful to him when it suits him— everyone knows that," Lorant said.
"Hm," was all Kaelith replied before returning to his soup.
