Chapter 13 - Thief

"This ore is Abzand. A pretty good choice when it comes to using weapons. It's quite good at resonating."

"It actually gets stronger or more durable as it absorbs ambient reshi. Though a down side if done carelessly it can break apart due to excess energy."

"Once again this is a good ore that many people would kill to get. I suggest you sell it. Part of that reason is because I of course want it. But there is also merit in doing so. However it is your choice. And I'll make a profit either way."

I was in thought but it didn't take long for me to make a choice.

"No, that's quite alright. I want it to be forged into a spear."

I could sell it, actually that would be the best choice for now. Based on what Lorenzo is saying I'm very tempted to do so. Yet for another reason something is nudging me to have it forged.

On short I want a new spear. It could be quite useful with all of those properties and if I learn how to properly use them. Plus I could still sell the spear later on.

It might be a little less than the price I could get now but I doubt buying it as an already forged weapon would stop one from considering it.

They could actually melt it down and reforge it if they find a skilled enough artisan.

"I see."

Lorenzo didn't push the topic any further respecting my decision.

"Alright, then what about you, the blond or is it yellow hair? Are you the other customer?"

The man shifted a bit, a glint shining in his eyes landing on Danuja.

"Oh I see now. That's a fine weapon you've got there. Let me guess, it's an Odachi?"

Danuja looked surprised.

"Oh yea, I guess the size and shape does give it away. Especially to an experienced smith like yourself."

An odachi? Not a katana. Are they different? I just assumed that this was a particularly big katana.

It could be a sub category. Like there are normal swords, long swords, and short swords. Or different spears.

"Ha this one knows how to treat people unlike some one, I like him. I won't mind if you stop by often."

"I'll do maintenance on your weapons. Speaking of, let me get a closer look at that beauty."

Danuja seemed a bit hesitant but he handed over his odachi to Lorenzo. Lorenzo took it out of its casing and unsheathed it with practiced precision. Or at least as precise and artistically one can unsheath a sword.

He inspected it giving it silent approval as he did so. Then he placed the long blade back into its sheath.

"This is a beautiful weapon. And very well taken care of. I can see that you treat it very dearly."

Lorenzo had a slight smile on his stern face. Danuja responded a bit embarrassed.

"Ah, well it was a gift from my mentor. So I try my best to keep it in its best condition. Nothing special beyond that."

Lorenzo responded to that with a bit of fervor.

"But on the contrary Danuja. The fact that you've kept it so well maintained for however long you have it shows your deep care for it."

"I hope that you keep maintaining it well. I guess that I'll be the one maintaining it if you decide to have me take care of it. But I'm sure you get the picture."

With both my future and Danuja current weapons being in Lorenzo's hands all that was left was to discuss the price. Since no one else was mentioning it I was the first to bring it up.

"So how much would it cost for you to forge my spear?"

With no change in my expression I tried to stay as composed as possible. This was the closest I've come to gaining a new weapon. But if the cost is too much I'll just sell it.

Of course I won't just settle for any price he names. Normally I wouldn't haggle but this is just too critical of a decision to not actively bargain for a good deal.

I'll try to make the price as low as possible, preferably not going into debt while doing so.

It looked like Lorenzo was thinking of a price as if he had not thought of it until now. I guess he doesn't have set prices.

This could be a problem. Depending on how he feels he could raise or lower the price accordingly.

I felt a bit tense waiting for an answer, but Hernando spoke. I think for the first time since we arrived here.

"Actually I'd like to know as well. I plan on taking on the tab after all. Lorenzo looked at Hernando with an amused look on his face.

"Really? Alright no problem. As long as I'm paid it doesn't matter who does it. Though be warned my services aren't cheap."

"Don't worry friend. So what's the price?"

Lorenzo succinctly replied.

"Two gold Tyro and ten Silver Tyro."

My jaw dropped. Thief, he's a Telos damned thief.
