Chapter 2 - Story Background & Character Description

STORY BACKGROUND

In the Diabolik Lovers universe, two realms exist side by side: the human world and the demon world. Hidden from mortal eyes, the demon world thrives under the rule of Karl Heinz, the Vampire King—a brilliant yet enigmatic figure who shapes the destiny of his kind.

Karl Heinz has three wives: Cordelia, Beatrix, and Christa (his cousin, though she is deceased in this story's timeline and plays no role in the events). His union with Beatrix produces two sons, Shuu and Reiji. This infuriates Cordelia, who sees Beatrix as a rival for power and resents the fact that Shuu, as the eldest son, is the heir despite Beatrix being Karl's second wife.

Determined to secure her own legacy, Cordelia gives birth to triplets: Ayato, Kanato, and Laito. Together, the six brothers are raised in Karl's grand castle in the demon world—an imposing estate called Eden. However, their upbringing is far from idyllic. Neglect, abuse, and toxic family politics breed in them cruel, volatile, and dominant personalities that will later shape their interactions with others. In this story's timeline, the demon world remains a mystery to humans. At this point in history, it is subtly connected to England, which explains why the heroine is English and not Japanese. The Sacrificial BrideAt the center of Karl Heinz's latest experiment lies the concept of the "Sacrificial Bride." These young women are chosen to serve as living blood sources for the vampire family, under the guise of marriage alliances. However, there is a darker twist:The Bride must choose the Vampire who will awaken the Sacrificial Bride. Whoever succeeds will gain not only her blood but also be recognized as the heir to the family's power. This process, still in its early stages in this timeline, has seen very few brides before the heroine arrives at Heinz Castle. The Heroine's PerspectiveIn this story, the heroine believes she is entering a marriage of convenience, arranged by her wealthy father to secure their family's position. Unbeknownst to her, she is stepping into a far more dangerous world, where love, loyalty, and survival are tangled in a web of power struggles and ancient traditions. For this narrative, the brothers assume the surname "Heinz" (rather than "Sakamaki") in keeping with Karl Heinz's name and the Western setting.
