Chapter 9 - Flashback: The Island’s Core*

Darkness swallowed the battlefield.

Jayden's breath trembled as the Fog Serpent reared back, scales rippling like liquid smoke. Its fangs coiled around Iris in a deadly grip.

"No—IRIS!!" Jayden roared, sprinting forward.

But the serpent twisted its massive body, vanishing into the fog with a final, echoing hiss. Iris screamed as she was taken, her voice cutting through the silence like a blade.

 "We'll meet again—at the island's core… so don't stop no matter what!*"

Her words lingered—then vanished into black.

---

 Scene fades to black…

A long, unnatural silence.

Then—CRUNCH.

The serpent's corpse lay split apart, its body severed in multiple places like someone had sliced time itself. Blood oozed across the ground like a river of ink. Flesh steamed. Bone hissed.

A shadow moved.

A figure stood in the carnage—slender, cloaked in a black hood. Her presence bent the world around her like gravity had shifted.

In a blink, two more hooded strangers appeared, kneeling before her.

"Your Highness… please. Come back home," one begged. "This is madness! Your beauty is wasted on that foolish weakling!"

"You shall speak no more. Now leave," the hooded girl commanded coldly.

A wave of fear erupted—not just from the men, but from the very earth.

The skies dimmed.

Birds fled. Monkeys screamed and clawed at their heads. Animals convulsed, vomiting blood. Some threw themselves off cliffs just to escape her.

"A-as you wish, Your Highness…" the second stranger muttered, vanishing in terror.

The girl turned.

Beneath her hood, only blackness.

And in that void—two glowing, purple eyes shimmered like cursed gems. Beast-like. Ageless. Hungry.

"No one tells me what to do. Tch."

---

Time skip – Later at the Island's Core…

Jayden stumbled forward, battered and gasping. His journey had pushed him beyond his limits.

And there—just beyond the shattered trees—stood Iris, waiting by the island's core.

"HEY! IRIS!" he shouted, sprinting toward her. "I—I thought I lost you!"

She smiled warmly. "Hehehe… guess what? I managed to escape."

Jayden broke into tears, collapsing to his knees.

 "I'm so glad you're alive… Iris… I'm so glad…"

But before the moment could last—a child's voice rang out

 "I-It wasn't me!! I swear it wasn't me!!"

They turned. A small girl stood trembling in front of the Island's Core… shattered. It looked as if a bomb had gone off—crystal fragments floated midair like broken dreams.

Jayden stepped forward, confused. "Wait—who's she? Iris, do you know wh—"

"SHUT UP, BITCH!! IT WAS YOU!!!"

A scream from the shadows. A sword shot through the air like a lightning bolt, piercing the crying girl's chest.

 "A-AHH!" She coughed blood violently. "I-It wasn't… me…"

Then everything froze.

Literally.

Her body turned to ice—instantly. Her final tear glistened like a diamond on her frozen cheek. Sword still embedded. Silent. Dead.

Jayden's face twisted in horror. "What… what just happened?!"

Iris grabbed his arm, eyes wide. "Shhh… no sudden moves. Or we're next."

Jayden nodded, heart thundering.

Together, they dug a grave. Quiet. Careful. And left flowers and a stone marked:

> Rest in peace."

 Flashback Ends…

The memory faded—replaced by now.

Jayden stood still, fists clenched, the voice of the Warlords whispering in his ears as authority, power, and destiny began to merge within him.

> "The price of survival... is remembering what it cost."

He opened his eyes, and they gleamed with something new.
