Chapter 3 - Flashdrive vs VM

Ashgrove High School,

Walking down together in the hallways, Adam and Lucian talked like always, though Lucian was zoning occasionally, thinking about something...

Lucian:(Before leaving, I changed the device to default, but I can't use my Pc for this. I need something else.)

Suddenly–

Adam: Ayo! Are you all right?

Lucian looks back.

Lucian: Huh? Yeah... School work, yeah, I know.

Adam(chuckles): You are looking past me... I can tell.

Silence.

Lucian: I couldn't sleep last night. That's all.

Adam: Who is it?

Lucian: Shut up... God sake!

Both started smiling as they entered the class.

After school, Merrin's Residence

Coming out of the shower Lucian boots his Pc as he searches for methods...

Lucian: I can't keep changing the names, sooner or later, they will find me.

Lucian searches more and more until it all leads to a website.

Lucian: P-packtforge.

Clicks.

It was a chat forum, and multiple people were talking like crazy. It wasn't the first time he saw a chat forum, but it felt a little weird.

It felt new—

Suddenly a prompt came asking him to create an ID.

Lucian: Hmm...There is no password.

Lucian tries to write his name but stops, knowing he can't use his real name, he thinks, leaning forward, his elbow resting on the desk.

He takes a glance at the question paper on his desktop.

Smiles.

Lucian: [slowly types]

Username: .Login

Lucian chuckles as he enters the site. He sees many IDs replying to each other, all of them with different cool and weird names.

Brav.o: God, my Pc fuking sucks dude.

Toiletbound: hahah... Suck it lol

Lucian keeps smiling, not reading the chats, but rather thinking about his username.

Lucian(muttering): Got the logins through luck what my ID name fcking '.Login'

Without wasting time Lucian starts writing—

_____________________________________________

.Login: Hey, I am doing some private things right now, but I don't want to do it on my PC is there a way around it? Like something that would be anonymous.

@Jumbo: Buy a new one. Lol

"Grow"56: Lol... What exactly are the private things? Are you just browsing? If so, use something like Tor.

.Login: No, I want so that my device name doesn't show if you get it.

BrotherisSixfeet: go for like Boot device, like use a flashdrive and boot an OS. Or maybe use a VM.

.Login: What's A VM and flashdrive boot?

'Grow'56: Flashdrive boot having a pendrive that has a computer inside it which you can access whenever. VM is a Computer that creates a virtual machine that uses your computer as its driver.

.Login: Where can I download, and can you tell me more?

BrotherisSixfeet: There is a site, GetintoLinux, go there, it has everything.

Lucian rolls back and immediately taps into the GetintoLinux site, the website loads in an instant though it seems far different.

Black background along with a blue Mark that had a weird logo in it, the text was highlighted in yellow.

On the home page, it showed a short description about the site along with an Introduction to Linux but Lucian didn't care rather he clicked 'VMWorld' from the categories as soon as the site loaded he clicked and downloaded the first thing then going clicking on 'LinuxWorld' he downloaded the first Linux file.

It took an hour of following the tutorial and applying it to load the virtual machine, but finally, when it did run.

Lucian: It's so slow, it takes so much just to load the applications.

Lucian was frustrated as he went back to the chat forum.

.Login: The VM is so slow can't even load the applications fast.

BrotherisSixfeet: It just means your PC is slow. Try a Flash drive.

BrotherisSixfeet: Be aware, you can easily boot your whole PC, losing everything. I am telling this to everyone.

Lucian looks even more frustrated as he glances at the VM — the application had finally loaded, but it was stuck on a white screen.

Lucian Alt tabs—

He leaned back and closed his eyes.

Lucian: Arrgh! I don't have a flash drive...

Suddenly he jolted up as if he remembered something...

Creaks!

Lucian rushed through the door as he jumped down the stairs and immediately entered his parents' room.

It was different then Lucian's room—

Lucian's room was brighter, with well-spaced furniture, but his parents' room seemed dull, it had white walls, boxes beside the bed containing things from his father's job.

Julian Merrin, Lucian's father, worked as a Freight Technician, a government storage and logistics handler. He was a junior supervisor, and these sealed boxes were products he needed to send from home to cut costs.

Lucian didn't care so he went near the shelf beside the cupboard, he started searching—

Lucian: It was here...

Suddenly, he stopped—his eyes fixed on the bottom shelf.

Like the other shelves, it held family photos… but nestled beside them was a small glass ashtray filled with old SD cards, SIM cards—and three flash drives.

Lucian(smiles): I knew it... Dad asked me a few months back if I wanted some flash drives that he wasn't using... I said no at the time, but now.

Lucian turns back running and jumping back up the stairs to histhe loopant to trial.

Lucian: Tsk... .iso is different for flash boot. That's annoying, I also have to download 'BootPen' that would flash the .iso file in the drive.

Lucian squints, scrolls

Lucian: I can't understand sht.

Lucian started to download everything he needed...

Lucian: The steps are fewer compared to VM, but I have to shut off my PC (Grabs his phone) I should take some photos of the steps.

Clicks.

Clicks.

Clicks.

30 minutes later,

Lucian: Okay so this is the file, select the file VaultOS.iso, then flashdrive selected, then Ok.... Do you want to continue— Yes.

Loading 1%

[Please be patient]

Lucian: Another loading screen— of course!

Sigh.

Lucian started looking at the VaultOS page on the GetintoLinux site.

Lucian: I downloaded the first Linux thingy that I saw–

[Squint his eyes]
