Ezra's POV
I was searching in every room when something suddenly clicked—Father was nowhere to be seen either. He must have taken Mom somewhere.
I needed to check his room. I quickly rushed there, and the moment I stepped inside, my heart started beating wildly. The room was so quiet it felt unsettling.
As I looked around, something about the place felt odd, though I couldn't explain why.
I had never entered this room before—Father never allowed me to—so of course this was my first time here.
"Ezra, you're here?"
I flinched at the sudden voice and turned around. It was Calix standing there.
"Oh, Calix!" I said. He stepped inside.
"Whose room is this?" he asked.
"It's my father's room," I replied.
He started looking around, opening drawers and cabinets.
"Wow, your father was rich. That jerk even has a gold flower pot."
Well, Father was indeed wealthy—but he was also the most useless man I knew. He never loved me or treated me with kindness, like I wasn't even his son.
