"No!" Calista cried, her voice raw with anguish. She grabbed the doctor's white coat, her fingers twisting in the fabric. "You have to go back in there. You have to save her like you always do! You have to!"
The doctor's eyes filled with sympathy. "I'm so sorry, Ms Calista. Not this time, I'm afraid."
Her legs gave out again, and she crumpled into the cold floor, Orion tried to help her, but she swatted his hand away. Her mind raced, as memories began to flash before her eyes. Lyra's laugh, the way she always seemed to know everything with just a look at her. Her terrible jokes.
"I didn't get to say goodbye," she whispered again, tears streaming down her face. "Please, just bring her back, I'll do anything. I'll pay anything, just bring her back to me."
The medical staffs exchanged pitying glances, helpless as Calista grief. Her chest heaved with sobs, each breath reminding her of the loss.
