When the two Jotunheim warriors beside him realized what was happening, their arms morphed into icy blades and slashed at Heimdall. But Heimdall was faster one clean sword strike for each enemy and in just two seconds, it was over.
However, breaking free from the ice had drained nearly all his strength. Staggering, he pushed forward toward the teleportation array and, summoning the last of his energy, drove his longsword into its center.
Lightning crackled as the portal roared to life.
The Asgardians erupted in joy and rushed to the platform. Thor turned to Jane Foster, locking eyes with her, and said tenderly,"I must return to Asgard. But I promise, I'll come back for you. You have my word."
Jane was still wearing a long trench coat over a fitted knit sweater that hugged her figure.
Their eyes lingered. Thor, a veteran of countless battles and thousands of enemies, now found himself at a loss speechless before a fragile woman of Earth.
"Mmm... mmm..."
Jane hadn't anticipated such intensity. She quickly surrendered herself to the moment, letting Thor take the lead.
He'd been hesitant at first, but the instant their lips met, Thor refused to let go. Using his tremendous lung capacity, he passionately explored this new and thrilling skill.
After what felt like an eternity, they finally broke the kiss.
Had it not been for his fellow Asgardians urging him on, it might have lasted until dawn.
"It's a promise,"Jane whispered, looking up at him dreamily.
With visible reluctance, Thor released her arm and turned toward the teleportation platform.
With a flash of light, the five vanished into the portal.
Jane was left behind, tilting her head back, savoring the warmth lingering on her lips.
Thor and his companions reappeared at the Bifrost's terminus. Heimdall lay motionless atop the platform.
"Quick! Get him to the healing chamber!"
Thor barked the order before charging toward the palace, he had a score to settle with his deceitful brother.
Inside Odin's chambers, Loki was in the middle of a dramatic performance, pretending to fend off imaginary enemies and protect their father. Queen Frigga, overcome with emotion, praised him as a devoted and selfless son.
Thor stormed in and shouted,"Damn it! Why didn't you tell Mother you were the one who sent the Destroyer to Earth to kill me and my friends?!"
Frigga turned to him, stunned."What?!"
Though his lie had been exposed, Loki didn't flinch. Gripping Odin's staff, he replied coolly,"It was acting on Father's final orders."
But Thor wasn't fooled. During his time on Earth, he'd read plenty of Norse mythology and had a much clearer understanding of Loki's true nature.
"Screw you! You lying bastard! You told me Father was dead, that Mother forbade me from returning and I actually believed you. God, I was such an idiot."
His voice faltered for a moment before he went on,"I've looked after you since we were kids, fought alongside you, gave you the best of everything. And this is how you repay me? You sent the Destroyer to kill me when I was exiled to Earth. I must have been blind to ever call you my brother!"
His rage consumed him, and his words tumbled out in broken fury.
Loki let out a cold laugh."Brother? What a joke! I never wanted a brother. Ever since we were young, everyone loved you. They called you Father's true son. And me? I just wanted to be seen, to be acknowledged. That's why I trained so hard fighting, studying magic but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't surpass you. Why? Just because of that ridiculous hammer?! Father gave you everything. And me? All I got was a dagger. How is that fair? I won't accept it!"
"Loki, there's no need to compare yourself," Frigga said gently. "In my eyes, you'll always be the most precious."
Her heart ached hearing the two brothers clash. She had raised them both, how could she bear to see either hurt?
"Mother, this isn't about you. I've never resented you," Loki choked out, his eyes red.
He could never forget how kind Frigga had been. She was the perfect mother. If there were such a thing as reincarnation, he'd choose her all over again to be her true son.
"Brother, I'm going to destroy Jotunheim," he declared. "I'll show all of Asgard who their true king is."
With that, Loki pointed Odin's scepter at Thor, firing a brilliant beam of divine energy that blasted him across the room.
Then, Loki mounted Odin's eight-legged steed and charged toward the teleportation array. He plunged the scepter into the array's core, activating the Bifrost.
In Norse mythology, the Bifrost is the rainbow bridge that connects Asgard and Midgard, often called "the shaking heavenly path."
But in the Marvel Universe, the Bifrost is more than a bridge, it's Asgard's ultimate weapon.
It not only opens portals across realms but can concentrate immense energy on a single point, making it capable of planetary destruction. Odin had once used its devastating power to conquer worlds during his reign over the Nine Realms.
Now, Loki had activated it. And worse he had placed the Frost Box, Jotunheim's most sacred relic, at its core. With this configuration, nothing could stop what was coming.
Once I destroy Jotunheim, all the glory will be mine. I'll become the greatest hero in Asgard's history doing what even Odin never dared!
The Bifrost's energy blasted Jotunheim's brittle land. Its surface began to collapse under the pressure. Countless frost giants ran in terror but there was nowhere to hide.
One elderly giant collapsed to his knees, pounding his chest and wailing in despair as the ground cracked beneath him.
"Oh heavens, oh earth... who will save the people of Jotunheim?!"
