Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: The Great Sea Battle of Skegli (Part One)

On the Oro Jackson,

Roger looked at the charging Garp:

"I can't let you damage my ship."

As he finished speaking, he stepped forward and launched diagonally toward Garp, meeting him head-on.

Both hands gripped his sword behind him, wrapped in Haki.

Black currents swirled around the blade as he slashed hard at Garp, who was flying toward him.

Clang!

The blade collided with Garp's jet-black iron fist, and through the clash of sword and fist,

The two men grinned fiercely at each other, exuding murderous intent.

"Ahhhhhhh!!!"

"Ahhhhhhh!!!"

Garp and Roger simultaneously exerted force, roaring savagely, veins bulging on their faces.

Boom!

A massive explosion separated the two, and a circular shockwave burst from between them, expanding outward an unknown distance.

Roger adjusted his posture midair and instantly vanished, charging toward Sakazuki and Whitebeard locked in battle.

Garp stepped down, creating a white sonic boom several meters wide in the air as he intercepted Roger.

...

Elsewhere, Sengoku appeared atop the Oro Jackson.

Rayleigh with his sword and Gaban with his axe flashed into the air.

One sword and two axes coated in Haki slashed toward Sengoku.

The towering golden Buddha over dozens of meters tall assumed a stance, and its massive palm pressed down.

It directly blocked the incoming sword and axe below.

Clang!

A metallic clang echoed as they clashed briefly.

Then, with an expressionless face, Sengoku activated his ability. Rayleigh and Gaban's pupils shrank.

Armament Haki extended from his palm, enveloping the surface of the ship.

Under Sengoku's palm, a massive, semi-transparent shockwave appeared out of thin air.

It directly impacted the Oro Jackson.

As the ship shook violently,

The semi-transparent white shockwave transformed into golden light that lit up the sky.

The energy within surged and exploded.

Boom!

A thunderous roar followed, and the golden light seemed to become a miniature sun.

From afar, it was blinding to look at.

Under the intense eruption,

The raging sea turned into towering waves that spread in all directions.

Everyone on the ship was more or less injured.

Especially the younger ones—Shanks and Buggy were dazed and bleeding from the mouth.

The hull of the Oro Jackson also suffered massive cracks from the shock.

Rayleigh and Gaban exchanged glances, making a silent decision.

Haki surged through their hands, and an invisible current flashed as they simultaneously struck at Sengoku in the sky.

Their emitted Haki collided with Sengoku's massive palm, the huge impact knocking Sengoku back a bit.

At the same time, both of them charged forward with weapons in hand. Sengoku's body was cloaked in Armament Haki.

Clang!

Their sword and axe struck Sengoku's golden chest, but didn't leave a scratch.

Sengoku's massive, expressionless eyes flashed with golden light.

Both arms rose with a whooshing sound.

With his palms glowing, semi-transparent shockwaves formed into rings between them, preparing to press together.

Rayleigh and Gaban instantly retreated.

Just before Sengoku's palms clapped together, the two had already escaped the strike zone.

Dong—!

The giant golden palms clapped together, emitting a sound like a grand bell, as if cleansing the soul.

Seeing Rayleigh and Gaban retreating,

Sengoku's massive golden Buddha face looked coldly at them.

His joined palms pushed forward.

The shockwave rings gathered between them exploded outward.

A golden energy beam several dozen meters thick blasted forth, aimed straight at them.

Rayleigh and Gaban's pupils shrank violently, unable to dodge in time.

The massive energy column smashed into them, slamming them into the ocean.

BOOM!!!

Endless golden light exploded underwater, spreading furiously in all directions.

A massive void hundreds of meters wide formed on the ocean's surface, slowly healing.

Sengoku looked coldly toward the seafloor. The two weren't dead—their auras were moving rapidly.

Suddenly, golden light flashed in his eyes. He raised a hand and struck at a certain spot.

Clang!

...

At the edge

Black mist and volcanic ash were growing denser.

It didn't bother Sakazuki much, but it was starting to affect Whitebeard.

Though his physical prowess surpassed most people in the world, he still needed to breathe.

Inhaling volcanic ash and smoke for long wasn't good.

He felt the urge to cough.

With a thought, Whitebeard activated his power and stomped down.

A huge atmospheric crack formed beneath him, the explosive shock propelling him upward.

He aimed to break through the black cloud layer.

Somewhere within that cloud, Sakazuki's eyes flashed red.

He stretched out his hands, and a tiny spark flared between his palms.

Moving like lightning, the spark zipped around the cloud layer.

Whitebeard, rising upward, felt his hair stand on end. He halted in midair and activated his power in a sweeping motion.

A powerful sense of danger assaulted his mind.

He tossed his bisento, clapped his hands, and slammed them around himself.

In an instant, countless cracks enveloped Whitebeard's form, catching his falling weapon.

He completed the final section with another upward sweep of his powers.

The black cloud composed of ash and smoke had become a massive bomb.

And the spark in Sakazuki's hand had been the fuse.

BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!...

An enormous explosion erupted into a massive mushroom cloud in the sky.

Its range was unknown, but even the towering Broken Cliff, nearly a thousand meters tall,

Seemed like a mere blade of grass in comparison.

The remaining part of the cliff began collapsing continuously.

Far off, Roger and Garp were both blown back by the intense heat wave.

As for the two in the blast center, the damage they suffered was unimaginable.

In Whitebeard's location, fine cracks formed a cocoon tightly wrapped around him.

Inside, his arms were torn, muscles and blood vessels ruptured.

His limbs trembled uncontrollably. His chest heaved, and he coughed blood.

The moment the explosion occurred, Whitebeard's danger sense surged and triggered his reflexes.

Without hesitation, he activated his powers with both fists.

Countless shockwaves struck the surrounding space. He didn't know how many punches he threw in seconds.

Only when his muscles tore, vessels burst, and the danger sense faded did he stop.

The overuse of his powers left his body strained.

Strong vibrations exploded within him, shaking his limbs and organs.

He coughed blood repeatedly as the cracks slowly faded.

Whitebeard's murderous eyes locked onto a certain spot.

At the base of the broken cliff, just shy of submerging into the sea—

Sakazuki's figure slowly reformed. As long as the damage reached a certain threshold,

Even Logia users couldn't avoid harm completely.

At this moment, though in slightly better shape than Whitebeard, Sakazuki was still in bad condition.

The explosion had shredded his magma form. Though the physical damage was less severe,

The mental anguish was intense. His whole body trembled slightly.

His body reformed far more slowly than usual.

After seven or eight breaths, only half of his body had reformed. Blood flowed from his nose and mouth.

As he reconstituted himself slowly,

The half-formed Sakazuki on the lava looked up at the fading cracks around Whitebeard.

Cold sweat streamed down his shaking body. He tried to sneer,

Moved his mouth, but couldn't force a grin.

The searing pain hadn't faded. He couldn't control his body to make any expression.

While reforming, he kept his eyes locked on Whitebeard above.

Their eyes met, murderous intent igniting and blending as the skies darkened.

...

In the New World, the Golden Lion fleet was now fully assembled.

Floating under Shiki's control, he pointed forward.

Dozens of pirate ships charged toward the Skegli Sea.

Standing at the bow of the lead ship, arms crossed, golden hair fluttering in the wind, Shiki shouted:

"Jihahahahaha! Roger! Newgate!"

"Wait for me, bastards!!!!"

"Jihahahahahahahaha!!!"

His wild, arrogant laughter echoed across the heavens, spreading far and wide...

...

Marine Headquarters, Marineford.

After a short discussion and decision, warships departed the port heading toward the Red Line.

Fleet Admiral Kong and Admiral Zephyr were first to teleport to G4 via the government's special agents.

The fleet was led by current Marine Academy Head—Vice Admiral Ward Morris.

Meanwhile, Enel had appeared aboard Sakazuki's warship, setting sail with Karol toward the New World.

By dusk...

In the New World, at Marine G4 Base, as three figures flashed in the sky above the sea—

Fleet Admiral Kong and Admiral Zephyr...

Have joined the war!
