His phone nearly slipped from his hand when his eyes landed on the figure standing a few feet away.
It was his father.
"Father," he gasped, clutching the phone quickly behind his back. "You scared me."
His father raised a brow, amused. "Why? Did I catch you doing something you shouldn't?"
Kayden swallowed and shook his head quickly. "No, I just… didn't think you'd be standing right behind me."
His father chuckled, the sound low and knowing. "I wasn't standing that long. But long enough to hear something interesting." He tilted his head, smirking. "So, why are you hiding your girlfriend? You know, you should invite her over sometime. Let your mother and I meet her properly."
Kayden blinked, caught completely off guard, then burst out laughing nervously. "Dad, I never told you I have a girlfriend."
