Daisy stirred awake, her body sluggish, her lips dry. She blinked against the white light until Aurora's familiar face came into focus.
"Aurora?" Daisy's voice was hoarse, as she tried to shift her position.
Aurora quickly got up from her seat and leaned closer. "No, no, don't move…" Her voice cracked. She blinked a few times, too hard and obvious, before turning her face away, avoiding Daisy's eyes.
Confusion tightened Daisy's chest. "What happened?"
Aurora swallowed, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of her sleeve. "The doctor said you… you lost the baby." Her words trembled, as though saying them made the truth sharper.
Daisy's breath hitched. Her hands instinctively went to her stomach, trembling. "No…" The word broke out in a whisper.
Aurora's eyes glistened. She hesitated before blurting out, her voice barely steady, "Is it true? Did you… really eat something to get rid of it?"
