POV: Ember
The window shattered behind me as I dove across the living room floor.
Glass rained down on my back while I crawled toward the children's hiding spot under the coffee table. Hope, Hunter, and Tommy were huddled together, eyes wide with terror.
"Mama!" Hope whispered frantically.
"Shh, baby. Stay quiet," I breathed, pulling them closer.
Three men in black masks had just broken into Dr. Chen's house. One through the front window, one through the back door, and one from the basement. They moved like soldiers, fast and silent.
"Search every room," their leader commanded. "Find the omega and the special children."
My heart hammered against my ribs. Ash and Cade had been gone for two hours, supposedly rescuing Jake. But these men knew exactly where I was and exactly when I'd be alone.
This was planned.
"Living room clear," one intruder reported.
"Kitchen clear," said another.
