POV: Ash
I caught Ember as she collapsed.
"I can't do this now," she gasped, clutching her stomach. "It's too early."
"The babies don't care about timing," I said, helping her to the floor behind the overturned couch. "We're going to have to do this here."
Around us, the battle raged on. Cade was fighting three rogues at once near the kitchen. Glass and wood were flying everywhere.
"I don't know how to deliver babies," Ember said, panic in her voice.
"Neither do I, but we're about to learn fast."
Another wave of pain hit her, and she screamed so loud that every window in the cabin shattered.
"What was that?" I heard Victoria yell from across the room.
"The babies," I said in amazement. "They're already showing their power."
Max and Lily were still crying their sonic defense from the corner, but now their newborn siblings were adding to the noise from inside Ember's belly.
"Ash, I can't push yet," Ember said. "It's too dangerous. What if they're not ready?"
