Chapter 27 - CHAPTER 27:"Reflection"

_Chapter Begins_

The wooden abomination opened its maw wide and lunged straight for William's head.

The creature's maw was mere centimeters away from him.

But in the end, instead of biting into his flesh, the abomination's teeth sunk into the mystical glass that was behind William.

William had seemingly disappeared.

The giant mystical shard, already laced with cracks from the glass shard that had been launched at it before, finally broke down.

The glass shard slowly started to crumble right where the abomination stood.

William, meanwhile, got out of the reflection of a glass shard that was about fifteen meters away from where he had been.

He breathed heavily and then looked at the direction of the falling glass shard.

"That... should hold him for some time."

The abomination had sunk its teeth into the mystical glass shard and now it couldn't remove them.

So the abomination was going to get trapped by the crumbling glass shard no matter what.

But of course, William wasn't a fool—he knew that the rubble from the falling glass shard wouldn't keep the abomination on hold forever.

So right now he needed to get as far away as possible before the monster broke free.

"Better get to work then."

With that, William dove into the reflection of the glass shards and began moving through them with supersonic levels of speed.

Traveling through reflections would be a very weird sensation for anyone else—because not having a physical body but still having thoughts and feelings was a strange thing to even think about, let alone actually experience.

Thankfully, William already had this type of experience a couple of times now—so he wasn't really affected that much by it.

However, what did affect him were the twelve revives he had experienced.

William could act tough all he wanted, but he could not deny that getting eaten alive twelve times by that vile abomination had really affected him.

"Gods, I don't have time for this."

As much as William wanted to just sit down and calm himself, he simply couldn't.

It was only a matter of time before the abomination got out of the rubble of broken glass shards.

And once it did, William knew for a fact that the vile thing would track him in no time.

He had figured out that the wooden abomination had a really strong sense of smell.

So strong, in fact, that it could smell William from a kilometer away with no issue.

William did not know the exact range of its smell, but he at least knew that it was more than a kilometer.

Then William's thoughts were interrupted by a noise that he was dreading to hear.

A loud boom resounded far away behind him.

It was the sound of giant pieces of mystical glass getting thrown away and then shattering.

Not only had the abomination already gotten out of the pile of broken glass—but it was already catching up to William.

William did say that he thrived in hopeless situations, but this... was just too much even for him.

William threw himself out of the reflections of the glass shards and landed on his knees.

He winced.

"Well, that is convenient."

William had not noticed it, but his wounds... were slowly healing.

Of course, every human had that ability, but his healing was very much abnormal compared to any other human.

"Some type of regeneration ability?"

William wasn't sure if this healing was from Hell's system or a power granted to him by the purple orb.

But right now, this regeneration ability did not matter that much.

It would not help him against the wooden abomination—in fact, it would make it even worse.

In the few minutes that it took the abomination to arrive, William had already come up with another plan.

However...

If his last plan was considered desperate and risky... then this one should be called a straight-up death sentence.

Just like his old plan, his new plan revolved around using his one and only ability.

But this time... he would not be gliding through the reflections of the glass.

This plan would only work if all of William's theories were somehow correct.

The chances of this working were pretty much next to zero.

But he had to try something.

William picked up a small piece of glass shard and looked at it with a serious expression.

At that moment, the wooden abomination had finally arrived to end William's life for the thirteenth time.

Its long wooden claws scraped against the hazy surface of the mystical glass.

The abomination was mere seconds away from launching itself at William once again.

But this time... it was William who struck first.

Without warning, William lifted his arm and threw the small piece of glass shard towards the abomination.

The creature didn't even move, as it was obvious that a small piece of glass shard would not hurt it.

But at that moment—

William disappeared from his spot and then popped out of the glass shard that was still flying towards the abomination's head.

The abomination's purple eyes ignited with frenzied glee, and it lunged itself towards the human.

And then... it happened.

William's plan worked.

Just like last time, the jaws of the abomination were mere centimeters away from his head, but instead of biting into his soft flesh—it instead bit a small piece of mystical glass shard.

William had disappeared again.

With some effort, the abomination crushed the small piece of mystical glass with its wooden jaws.

It began to look around with madness lurking in its purple eyes.

The abomination was already aware of William's power and could still detect him even when he was hiding in a reflection.

However, it did not make a move—it simply looked around again and again.

It was like the abomination was confused.

It was like it could sense him nearby but still couldn't spot him.

As if there was a blind spot in its detection system.

Meanwhile, deep in the purple lights that acted as the abomination's eyes, was a lone human that stood with a wide smile on his lips.

"It worked..."

William wasn't sure if it would... but it did.

He was currently hiding in the reflection of the abomination's eye.

He wasn't sure if the purple lights of the abomination could reflect anything, but at the same time he was quite sure that the abomination could see, which meant that its eyes must have had the same reflective properties that normal eyes had.

Eyes reflected light, which was how a being could see, and William's ability allowed him to travel through reflective surfaces—so in theory he would be able to hide in someone's eye.

That theory had just been proven correct and also saved his life.

He had survived when hope abandoned him.

But now he was faced with a different problem... what was he going to do now?

If he moved out of the reflection of the creature's eyes, then it would immediately detect him again and the hunt would continue right where it left off.

William let out a long mental sigh.

"How about I take this chance of peace to relax first, and then make up a plan to escape."

That was probably a good idea, since William had a ton of new information that he wanted to go over, and also he needed a good amount of time to recover from the twelve horrible deaths he had experienced.

It was time to just sit back and... let go.
