Chapter 5 - The Copy Book

"WINDOW OPEN!!!!!"

"WINDOW OPEN!!!!"

I NEEDED TO SEE HOW MUCH TIME WAS LEFT!!

"WINDOW OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"HOCUS PUKUS—!"

I waved my arms, scribbling desperate shapes in the air—

Just to force that green window back open.

MAN, I DON'T WANNA GO BACKWARDS!

IT'S LIKE LOSING A VIDEO GAME

That copybook… it held her handwriting.

I could find clues there—

I needed to remember her.

But…

Was she even in this world?

I... I want to find her .I... I must find her.

I might escape this world...

Maybe the game ends when I find her?

I need to sleep... just five minutes...

Zzzz...

I woke up, but—

QUEST FAILED. PUNISHMENT: FIRST ENCOUNTER.

"Time for fooood…"

The villager approached me again.

His shovel gleamed.

"FOR THE LOVE OF— I'M NOT FOOD, SIR!"

Damn it—I can't restart reintroducing myself to you again!

But here we go…

"MY NAME IS AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

he villager stared. "...What?"

"Are you in your mind, fella?"

"I'm sorry, sir let me explain the situation"

The Villager hefted his shovel, locking into a protective stance.

"SIR, I'M NOT YOUR ENEMY! OKAY??

I'm… you've got two dogs, right? Two adorable dogs!

Let me introduce myself to them??"

"A MAGICIAN!

I KNEW IT!

YOU'RE A MAGICIAN!

GET OUT OF MY TERRITORY—NOW!"

"LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!!!"

The villager kept chasing me—his two dogs snarling at my heels.

But the window finally flickered:

QUEST 3: KILL THE VILLAGER

PUNISHMENT: RETURN TO FIRST ENCOUNTER

I HAD ENOUGH!!!

I couldn't take it anymore!!

I CAN'T KILL PEOPLE!

The villager swung his shovel

Then everything went dark.

Did the dogs eat me? I never reached that scene

"Time for fooood…"

The villager approached me, shovel raised.

I didn't resist.

He struck me—a crushing blow.

Then...

First Encounter again?

No.

I found myself in the hut.

"Are you okay, fella?"

"I'm not okay!! I've never been okay since I came here…

Don't ask me anything."

The dog approached. I patted his favorite spot.

The villager smiled. "He seems to like you! It's his favorite spot, y'know."

I whispered, "Yeah… sure. And the other do—"

"The other what? That suspicious look on the villager's face could mean another tiring quest

"Nothing. Nothing at all." i don't want to be chased again

The green window flickered:

QUEST #4: FIND THE COPYBOOK

Time left : 24h

"It's really a game..." I whispered.

The villager's head snapped toward me.

"Eh? Copybook? What's that—food?"

"Oh, it's not food—it's something square, like this."

(I gestured frantically, tracing a rectangle in the air.)

"Hmmm..." The villager scratched his beard.

"I found something like that before I met ya. Thought it was weird wood...

planned to burn it tonight."

"CAN YOU SHOW ME?! PLEASE!!"

"That's it! That's the copybook! Please—give it to me!"

The villager gripped it tighter.

"Calm down, boy. Why should I believe this belongs to you... and not me?"

He took a step forward, eyes hardening.

"IT'S... ON... MY... TERRITORY."

The villager lifted the copybook to his nose, sniffing deeply.

"Aah... never smelled anythin' like this in my life."

He licked a corner. "Edible?"

"DON'T! Please—please don't…"

My voice cracked as I stepped forward, fists trembling.

"...Don't make me hurt you."

I was ready to punch the old fart—

When a notification popped:

HINT: STEAL COPYBOOK & RUN.

Wow. What a great hint, Green Window. You saved my life!

But HOW?!

That mountain of a man towers over me!

I knew this man—but not well. What could I use?

The herbs!

"What herbs?" the villager frowned.

"OH MY GOD!" I thought aloud—

then sprinted for the herb patch.

"DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH MY PRECIOUS HERBS!"

TOO LATE!

I grabbed a fistful and hurled them straight at his face.

Finally—the copybook in my hands!

"YOU DARE STEAL MY PRIVATE STUFF?!"

The villager whistled sharply.

"GET HIM, BOYS!"

The dogs lunged, teeth bared.

DAMN IT, DAMN IT! I CAN'T LOSE AGAIN!

I CAN'T! I DON'T WANT TO SUFFER AGAIN—I JUST WANT TO GO HOME!

THIS IS THE END. AGAIN.

I exhaled, legs pumping, heart hammering.

TIME TO READ. WHAT'S INSIDE?

LOCKED?!

"DAMN IT!!"

I hurled the copybook at the nearest dog. It gulped the book whole.

The other dog lunged—

pinning me down.

A single sheet fluttered free.

On it, scrawled in faded ink:

JULIAN.

At least I knew something...

"Time for fooood…" the villager growled.

No, no—don't hurt me. Please…

I had to act today: not too knowing, not too innocent.

Just survive.

QUEST 4: FIND THE COPYBOOK

This time—I'll succeed.

It was a day mirroring the first—the villager's trust won, just like before.

Every game has a pattern...

I waited. Waited. Until he and his dogs slept.

"Tomorrow's a big day... I'm so excited to introduce you to the other villagers!" he'd said.

But I knew the truth:

I'd already won.

The hut fell silent.

Time to sneak to the woods.

There it is—there it is!

A branch snapped underfoot!

I bolted through the hut's straw wall—no choice, old man!

Sorry... but I can't stay caged.
