Nki turned sharply.
But it was already too late.
The enormous blackened wheel groaning and vibrating with a low malevolent hum was right in front of her, its sheer size blotted out everything else and its jagged edges spun with a hellish rhythm slicing through the air toward her skull.
"Shit—!" she gasped frozen in place.
Then suddenly.
CRACK.
The sound was deafening.
Something invisible struck the wheel with such force that it bent mid air and in the next instant.
BOOM!
It exploded.
Shards of black, smoking fragments scattered like rain, dissolving before they could even hit the ground.
Nki stared wide eyed and breathless.
"W-What just happened…?" she muttered.
Haiso turned his head slightly, his eyes colder than before. "This… is why I hate going outside."
His tone was flat and almost bored.
From the gates ahead someone emerged.
