Chapter 92: The King of the Tenth Universe, Zamasu
A few days later.
Goku, Beerus, and Whis returned to Earth.
Trunks (Da Te), Vegeta, and Luya were already waiting near the gravity training capsule. Luya had been training Trunks daily, and the latter's power had risen significantly.
"Uncle Goku, Lord Beerus, Lord Whis—you're back!" Trunks immediately stepped forward to greet them with a bright expression.
"Yeah. By the way, Trunks, your ki has improved a lot!" Goku said, his eyes lighting up as he scanned Trunks' aura.
Trunks responded modestly, "That's right. Dad and Luya have been helping me train these last few days, and I've grown much stronger!"
Goku nodded, then turned and greeted Vegeta and Luya with a wave.
"Hey, Kakarot, where did you disappear to?" Vegeta asked bluntly.
Goku chuckled. "Lord Beerus took me to Universe 10. Over there, I met a very interesting guy named Zamasu he's the apprentice Supreme Kai of Universe 10. Oh, and we also visited Zeno-sama's palace. We even became friends! He gave me a tiny button as a gift!"
"Whole egg?" everyone muttered in confusion.
"You idiot, Goku! Don't call Grand Zeno something like 'Quan Dan'!" Beerus shouted, his face turning dark with annoyance. "Keep disrespecting him like that and I'll personally report you to him next time!"
Goku stuck out his tongue mischievously.
"Zamasu? Who is that?" Vegeta frowned. The name was unfamiliar.
"Zamasu is the former North Kai of Universe 10," Whis explained. "He was promoted and trained under Gowasu, the Supreme Kai of that universe, as his successor. He's highly talented, especially in combat and philosophical reasoning. However… the ki Black Goku gave off felt eerily similar to his."
"What?!" Vegeta and Trunks were both stunned. They hadn't expected such a connection.
"Black Goku is a Supreme Kai apprentice? That's hard to believe!" Trunks said, shocked.
"We're not drawing any conclusions yet," Whis said calmly, smiling. "But there's more to Zamasu than meets the eye."
"He's peculiar for a Kai," Beerus added, stroking his chin. "His energy is violent and unstable. He doesn't seem to respect mortals at all. That's definitely not the attitude a god should have."
"I agree," Goku chimed in. "I sparred with him. He's powerful—faster and sharper than most Supreme Kais but not on Black Goku's level. His fighting style is rigid, more traditional. There's a gap between their abilities."
"You fought him?" Vegeta raised an eyebrow. "And how strong was he?"
Goku thought for a moment. "He's strong, but not even on the level of a Super Saiyan 2."
"So we still can't confirm whether Zamasu is Black Goku?" Luya asked suddenly.
Beerus glanced at Luya thoughtfully. "Their ki signatures are similar but not identical. Also, Black Goku was seen wearing a Time Ring—an artifact only Supreme Kais can use. But when we visited Universe 10, Gowasu still had the ring. Zamasu didn't have access to it."
"Indeed," Whis added. "Yet the similarity is too strong to ignore. Zamasu's aura lingers on Black Goku, but there's no trace of Black Goku's essence on Zamasu. That suggests they're not the same entity, but they're undeniably connected."
"This is getting complicated," Vegeta muttered with a scowl.
"No matter what, Black Goku in the future has to be stopped. I have to go back and defeat him!" Trunks declared firmly.
"Count me in!" Goku grinned, eyes flashing with excitement. "I bet Black Goku's gotten even stronger since we last met. I can't wait to fight him again!"
"Have you ever considered the discrepancies between our timeline and Trunks' future?" Luya asked suddenly.
"Huh?" Goku blinked. The others turned to her.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
Luya smiled calmly. "Even if Zamasu isn't Black Goku, it's still strange. Black Goku comes from a future timeline, and timelines don't always run in sync. Is it possible that time moves differently there?"
Everyone paused, caught off guard by the idea.
Beerus and Whis narrowed their eyes thoughtfully.
"You think Zamasu is the culprit?" Beerus asked Luya, serious now.
Luya nodded. "Yes. I suspect him."
Beerus stared at her. "Interesting. You seem to know a lot about Black Goku."
Whis turned his gaze to her as well.
Luya replied lightly, "I don't know much. But Zamasu is our only lead, and he's suspicious. Shouldn't we monitor him?"
"Tch! That's a Supreme Kai! You don't just 'monitor' them that easily," Beerus growled, visibly annoyed.
Luya turned to Trunks. "Tell me, Trunks the androids are gone in your future. Yet Goku and the others weren't revived, were they?"
Trunks paused, then nodded slowly. "That's right. Even after I destroyed Cell and the androids, no one else came back."
"Exactly," Luya continued. "Even though you altered your future by defeating your enemies, it didn't affect this timeline at all. History remained largely unchanged."
Beerus tapped his chin, thoughtful now.
He realized that Luya wasn't just speculating she had good reason to point the finger at Zamasu.
"Lord Beerus," Whis said gently, "I recommend we begin observing Zamasu more closely."
Beerus grunted. "Fine. If it helps us get to the bottom of this, let's do it."
He turned to Vegeta. "How's that time machine coming along?"
Before Vegeta could reply, Bulma walked out from the lab. "The damaged components have been repaired. I even had my parents cut their vacation short to help. We've also managed to recover about half the fuel."
"What? Half already?" Trunks was shocked.
"Yes, any problem with that?" Bulma asked with a raised eyebrow.
Trunks looked conflicted. "In my future, it took Mom half a year just to collect that much fuel."
In Trunks' post-apocalyptic timeline, resources were scarce, and gathering energy for time travel was grueling. Compared to the abundant present, his world was devastated—almost devoid of life. This contrast pained him deeply.
"Don't worry," Bulma reassured gently. "You'll head back soon and stop Black Goku. Everything will return to normal."
"Thanks, Mom…" Trunks said quietly, eyes misty.
"Okay, I've got more work to do. Everyone, carry on!" Bulma waved and returned to the lab.
Trunks stood silently, then turned to Luya. "Luya, can I stop training for today? I want to visit Gohan."
Luya understood. Gohan meant a lot to Trunks more than just a friend, he was a mentor and symbol of hope. She nodded. "Alright, go ahead."
