c85: The Battle Between Goku and Trunks
"Are you saying the enemy in the future timeline looks exactly like me? Is that why you attacked me just now?" Goku asked, blinking in surprise.
He genuinely had no recollection of any enemy resembling him.
Vegeta furrowed his brows deeply, arms crossed, clearly disturbed by what he was hearing.
Future Trunks gave a solemn nod and added, "Yes. His strength is terrifying. Not only does he look like you, but because of him, the future world is in ruins. Most of humanity has already perished. Only a few survivors remain. His objective… seems to be the complete annihilation of mankind."
"Wha... who is he?" Goku asked, clutching his forehead in confusion.
Trunks exhaled sharply, eyes burning with rage. "He calls himself Son Goku. Yes, Uncle Goku, he uses your name and your face. But in our time, we call him Goku Black!"
"Eh?" Everyone nearby including Beerus and Whis reacted with shock. Their interest had clearly been piqued.
"This is crazy... He's got my name and my face?" Goku muttered, perplexed. "But didn't I die from the heart virus in your timeline?"
"I don't know how," Trunks growled, his fists trembling, "but that monster killed my mother, Bulma... and even Mai…"
He gritted his teeth, his sorrow merging with fury as he remembered the day his world burned.
"H-Hey, Trunks... wait." Bulma's voice cracked slightly. "You said... I died?"
Trunks nodded somberly. "Yes. He destroyed Capsule Corp. I couldn't protect her…"
"No way…" Bulma whispered, stunned into silence.
"Bang!!" Vegeta clenched his fists, expression dark. His fury simmered just beneath the surface.
Goku then asked, "Trunks, if Goku Black is so strong, how big is the difference between your power and his?"
Trunks hesitated, then shook his head. "Too big. I couldn't keep up with him. The worst part? He keeps getting stronger as the battle goes on."
"Keeps getting stronger, huh…" Goku repeated. His eyes lit up with excitement. "Then, why don't you and I have a little sparring match?"
Trunks blinked in surprise, but quickly understood. "Okay, Uncle Goku."
Both soared into the sky, flying high above West City.
For safety, Bulma activated the temporary force field capsule around the arena one she'd been developing for containment tests.
"I'll go check the time machine's internal systems," Bulma said, already walking toward it, laptop in hand.
Whis, Beerus, and the others kept their eyes skyward, following the rising ki.
Luya, watching intently, knew how powerful Trunks had become over the years. While his Super Saiyan 2 was potent, it still lagged behind Goku and Vegeta, especially now. But Goku Black... that was another matter.
In midair, the two Saiyans faced each other. The wind pressure alone from their powering-up began to ripple through the skies.
"Don't hold back, Trunks!" Goku grinned.
Trunks narrowed his eyes. Every time he saw Goku's face, he couldn't help but see Goku Black's twisted smile superimposed over it. He roared.
BOOM!
Instantly, Trunks transformed into Super Saiyan 2, blue sparks crackling around his golden aura. Fueled by rage and purpose, he pushed his ki even further.
"Ohh! Super Saiyan 2?" Goku smiled brightly. "Nice! Guess I better take things seriously too!"
With a shout, Goku exploded into Super Saiyan 2, the air around him howling violently.
The two golden warriors clashed shockwaves bursting outward. The sheer power cracked the outer shell of Bulma's forcefield.
Time passed. Their battle was so intense that even Whis was watching with an amused smile.
"Remarkable resolve," Beerus muttered, nodding slowly.
"Yes. But what troubles me more is this so-called 'Goku Black,'" Whis added thoughtfully. "Don't you think the whole situation seems... suspicious, Lord Beerus?"
Beerus narrowed his eyes. "Let's not jump to conclusions. Something strange is happening. But we need more information."
Back in the sky
"I'm coming at you, Uncle Goku!" Trunks called out.
"Bring it on!"
Trunks darted forward, fists flying in a furious barrage. Goku remained on the defensive, blocking with ease, analyzing his growth.
"Aaaaah!!"
Trunks accelerated, landing a double-fist blow that sent a shockwave across the sky.
Goku's eyes sharpened. He caught Trunks' fists with both palms, smiling. "Not bad. You've come a long way, Trunks."
"But still not enough to beat Goku Black…" Trunks muttered, his tone low and bitter. "He gets stronger every minute we fight."
"I see…"
Suddenly, Goku's aura erupted.
BOOM!!
The pressure alone knocked Trunks back, sending him spiraling. His face changed dramatically.
"That ki…!"
With a howling roar, Goku transformed.
His hair extended, his aura spiked, and lightning crackled wildly.
This was Super Saiyan 3.
Golden hair cascading past his waist, Goku floated with calm fury. "This is Super Saiyan 3. A form far beyond the second level."
"Whoa! I didn't know you could still go that far, Uncle Goku!" Trunks was stunned.
"Yup! Now let's go another round!"
"Alright!!"
Trunks drew his sword, surged with power, and shot forward. Channeling all his ki into one focused slash, he leapt into the air and struck down toward Goku.
"Hmph."
Just before the blade touched him, Goku pinched the sword between two fingers, stopping it cold.
CRACK!!
The impact sent a shockwave across the field. Bulma's barrier shattered into sparks.
Bulma, book in hand, gasped. "Hey! Are you two trying to break everything?!"
"No way… stopped it with two fingers..." Trunks muttered in disbelief.
He remembered the last time they fought, Goku had done something similar. Years had passed… yet he was still so far ahead.
"Heh! You've improved a ton, Trunks." Goku gave a hearty laugh, then twisted his fingers and tossed the sword upward.
In a blur, he vanished and reappeared above Trunks and then came down with a punch to the gut.
"Guuuh!!" Trunks was slammed into the earth, forming a crater.
Dust billowed into the sky as everyone looked on, half-stunned, half-awed.
