c84: Future Disaster, The Murderer Dark Man
Little Trunks was still reeling.
How come I never knew my future self could travel back in time like this?
Why do Mom and Dad know about it, but I don't?
"Hey! Trunks, are you feeling better now?" Bulma shifted her attention to the older Trunks.
Big Trunks exhaled, steadying his emotions before standing. "Sorry… I lost control back there."
He turned to his younger counterpart and offered a light smile. "Let's get along, okay?"
Little Trunks was still stunned, but reflexively nodded.
Bulma, seeing things settling down, gently asked, "By the way… what happened in the future? Why are you so badly hurt? I thought peace had returned after the androids?"
Trunks fell silent. His eyes dimmed. He wasn't sure where to begin.
But before he could answer, Beerus broke the silence.
"Hold on. Before we get into that someone better explain why you've been tampering with time." The God of Destruction crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes. "Building a time machine and traveling across timelines without permission is a cosmic felony."
"Eh?! A serious crime?!" Goku scratched his head in disbelief.
Whis stepped forward. His usual serene smile was gone. "Indeed. Space-time is a fabric closely monitored and guarded by the divine. Mortals who travel through it without sanction create fractures that can cascade into unimaginable consequences. Worlds can collapse. Eras can distort. You might even erase your own existence without knowing it."
"Whoa… that serious?" Goku muttered sheepishly.
"It's not that serious, right, Whis?" Vegeta frowned, defensive of his son.
Whis's voice was calm but firm. "Imagine a sapling that would one day become a mighty tree. Now imagine time itself being disturbed so violently that the sapling never grows, or worse withers due to interference in its growth."
Everyone grew solemn at that analogy.
"There were once gods," Beerus added coldly, "who tried to manipulate time for their own selfish gain. They were erased without hesitation." He glanced sideways at Trunks. "Tampering with time isn't something that gets a warning. It gets a death sentence."
The atmosphere turned heavy.
"Yes," Whis continued, "so even if Trunks had noble intentions, the fact that he traveled back in time again is already a very serious infraction. And I doubt this is his first offense."
He gave Trunks a pointed look.
"Come on! Don't be so strict!" Bulma suddenly interjected, folding her arms. "Trunks is my son! And building a time machine is amazing! I mean, creating something that lets you travel across timelines how brilliant is that? Future me must be a total genius!"
She winked playfully, clearly proud of her future self.
"Oh dear… Lady Bulma still doesn't understand the gravity of the situation," Whis sighed.
Beerus nodded. "Still, I admit… I didn't expect humans to accomplish this. You mortals do have… potential."
Whis gave a short chuckle, then turned back to Bulma. "Regardless, Bulma, time machines are strictly forbidden. Even if you built it out of scientific curiosity… by law, it must be destroyed."
Bulma froze. Her proud smile vanished.
Vegeta tensed. Goku's expression darkened.
"No!" Future Trunks suddenly stepped forward, kneeling with urgency before Whis. "Please! This has nothing to do with my mother. It was my decision. I used the time machine she just built it. Punish me, not her!"
Whis blinked, caught off guard by the genuine emotion.
Beerus looked irritated. "Ahem. You've got it backwards. I'm the one you should kneel to."
"Oh sorry!" Trunks panicked, switching direction and kneeling before Beerus. "Lord Beerus… I take full responsibility. Please spare my mother!"
Beerus narrowed his eyes, then leaned back thoughtfully.
"Lord Beerus, please have mercy," Goku added with a sheepish smile. "It's not like he did it for fun!"
Bulma threw her hands up. "Look, it's not like I'm mass-producing time machines! I just built one! And besides, if you destroy it, you'll miss out on all the delicious Earth food I keep inventing!"
"That's bribery," Whis deadpanned.
"Hmph. But she has a point…" Beerus rubbed his chin. "No delicious food means no reason to come to Earth anymore."
He eyed Bulma with a half-smile.
"Well then," Beerus said slyly, "I might be willing to overlook this... if you offer proper compensation."
Bulma immediately perked up. "Deal! Give me a second!"
She pulled out a capsule and opened it inside was a platter of steaming fish sausages.
"This is one of my latest creations! I guarantee it'll blow your mind!"
Beerus and Whis each grabbed one and took a bite.
Their eyes lit up.
"MMMMHH!!" Both divine beings nearly exploded with joy.
"Unreal… the taste…" Beerus gasped, chewing.
"Told you!" Bulma said proudly, passing out extras to the group.
Even Vegeta grabbed one. He had grown more tolerant of group meals since training with Whis and Beerus. Food was something he'd learned to enjoy.
Luya, off to the side, took a bite but remained unimpressed. It's just fish with a bit more starch. Tasty, sure but not divine.
"There's plenty more in this box," Bulma said cheerfully.
Beerus eyed the box. "Hmm. Give it to me, and we'll say the time machine incident is… forgotten."
"Gladly!" Bulma handed it over without hesitation.
With the tension broken, Goku turned to Future Trunks. "So, Trunks… can you finally tell us what happened in the future?"
Trunks took a deep breath, regaining composure. His tone turned dark.
"In my timeline… after the Androids were defeated, peace returned. But not for long. A new, terrifying enemy appeared."
Everyone leaned in.
"Who? Is it Majin Buu?" Vegeta asked.
Trunks shook his head. "No. Buu was almost born in our timeline too—but we prevented it. This… this enemy came after that. His power is different."
"Then who is it?" Goku asked.
Trunks looked at him, his eyes filled with something between dread and disbelief.
"We call him… the Dark Man."
The group was stunned.
"Dark Man?" Goku repeated.
Trunks nodded. "From the day he appeared, the sky has never turned bright again. The entire Earth has been cast into a dark twilight. Cities fell. Hope was erased."
Everyone fell silent.
"What does he look like?" Vegeta asked.
Trunks hesitated, then turned back to Goku, eyes trembling.
"He looks exactly like you… Uncle Goku."
"EH?!?!" The entire group was floored.
Even Beerus raised a brow.
Goku looked genuinely baffled. "Wha—me?!"
Trunks nodded gravely.
"Yes. The Dark Man… has your face. But he's not you. He's… something else. Something darker than anything I've ever faced."
