Margot caught the sympathetic glances of several reporters and let her shoulders slump a little further, as if she might collapse from grief. Katherine and Brianna huddled close, their faces pale and drawn, every movement calculated for the cameras.

But underneath the fragile mask of sorrow, the three women exchanged subtle, knowing glances. The world only saw their tears and trembling voices—but in their hearts, they remembered Evan's last evening at home.

It had been just two days ago; the day Evan was finally released from police custody. They'd found him in the kitchen, hunched over a mug of coffee, his face pale but his eyes burning with a cold, determined light that unsettled even his sisters.

Margot had asked, "Are you all right, darling? You should rest after what those horrible people put you through."
