Sebastian's eyes narrowed, searching her face for any sign of dishonesty. The nanny met his gaze, clearly confused and somewhat anxious.
Vivienne, still unsettled, pulled the blanket tighter around herself. "It must have been some kind of mistake," she said softly, trying to diffuse Sebastian's anger, but her voice was uncertain.
Sebastian gave a frustrated sigh and set the monkey down on the dresser, glaring at it as if it might start moving again on its own. He turned back to the nanny. "Make sure this thing is out of the house by morning," he ordered. "I don't want to see it again."
"Yes, sir," the nanny replied, scooping up the toy.
After the nanny left, Sebastian paced the room for a few minutes, too agitated to lie down. Vivienne watched him, worry etched on her face. Finally, he returned to bed, but his body was tense, and his frown didn't leave his face. Vivienne kept her distance, sensing that any attempt at comfort would be unwelcome right now.
