Chapter 13 - You cannot afford this dress

"Hey! Don't you dare touch that dress, it's mine!"

Elena turned her head around and saw three women entering the store. These three women had thick make-up on their faces which made them look like clowns. Elena held back her laughter as she didn't want to make these three musketeers, especially their leader, to be more pissed than they already were.

But it also didn't mean that she would let them have their way. If it was the old Elena, maybe she would have given in. But now? No way! She had already realized that she had just one life and she had to live it on her terms. She wasn't going to be bullied by anyone.

"This dress is yours? But it doesn't have your name on it, does it?" Elena said as if stating just a matter-of-fact.

The leader of the three musketeers knitted her brows in anger. This was the first time that anyone had spoken to her in this tone. 'Does this b*tch know who I am? And if she knows, isn't she stupid to pick a fight with me?' she wondered.

"Do you even know who I am?" The leader asked Elena in an indifferent tone.

Elena just shrugged her shoulders, "I don't, but I do have an idea of what you are..."

Elena paused and the look in her eyes changed. The leader felt a shiver run down her spine as she looked into Elena's eyes. But she still chose to ignore it.

"You're a bratty b*tchy clown," As Elena finished her sentence, the face of the leader turned red because of anger and she looked even uglier than she already was.

"You...!" The leader glared at Elena but Elena was unfazed by her anger.

Elena ignored the leader and turned to the manager who had been watching them all this time. "How much for this dress?" She asked calmly.

"I believe you cannot afford this, miss," The manager looked at Elena in disdain. As Elena was dressed casually, the manager thought that she was an ordinary person.

Elena's face darkened on hearing the manager's words and seeing the disdain in her eyes. But before Elena could speak, the manager walked to that ugly clown leader's direction, "Miss Bella Monroe, we are glad that you have taken a fancy to this dress." This ugly clown leader, Bella, shot Elena a smirk telling Elena that there was nothing she could do. If she, Bella Monroe, wanted something, she would get it.

Elena scoffed before voicing out sternly, "Stop. The dress is mine."

The manager looked pissed at Elena's interruption. Why was this woman poking her nose in this matter again and again? What if Miss Bella changed her mind and decided to not buy the dress anymore? Wouldn't she lose a big incentive?

Thinking of this, the manager took a deep breath to control her anger and said to Elena, "Miss, please, you really won't be able to afford the dress so just look for something else. In fact, you should look for what you want in another store with cheaper prices. The dresses here are much more expensive than you think."

Elena didn't blame the manager for assuming that she came from an ordinary family who couldn't afford expensive stuff. She was aware that very few people knew about her identity as the only heiress of the Ashford Group.

Vanessa who was watching the scene felt a surge of happiness in her heart. She had always liked it when anyone looked down on the unknown heiress. She liked people insulting and embarrassing Elena in public.

Since she couldn't resist speaking, Vanessa said, "Elena, let's go to another shop. You won't be able to afford any of this dress anyway. Besides, it's too flashy for your father's birthday."

For all the years that Vanessa had known Elena, she knew that Elena didn't bring a lot of money with her. She would only bring money that was enough for her and Vanessa.

Elena's mouth twitched in annoyance on hearing Vanessa's words. As always, she knew that Vanessa was trying to undermine her in front of others. She had done this in her previous life too. But when asked, Vanessa advised her that she should keep a low-profile. However, now that she knew the truth about Vanessa, Elena retorted immediately, "Huh? What do you mean that I cannot afford this dress? Who do you think I am? You're my friend and yet you say that to me? You know which family I belong to, right?"

Vanessa was shocked to hear Elena's tone. Elena had never talked back to her like this. She would always listen to her, but what changed this time? Vanessa was confused by Elena's actions.
