Kara walked the path instructed to her by her sire. At first, she wasn't sure if she was in the right place until she saw the purple wisteria trees. She stood there, just watching the petals fall around her, the long stems swaying in the light breeze.
She walked further on and felt herself being watched and when she looked up, she saw them. Black feather ravens that stared at her, blankly. Their eyes, to her it looked like they had souls.
There was a hut before her with a young woman who waved her hands around a pot. She stopped when she heard the footsteps of Kara coming toward the hut. The young woman stood up and walked to Kara.
"Who are you?"
Kara looked at this woman, a woman who had the features of Zhiliary. She nearly cried right then, for she was looking at her daughter.
Flap, flap!
Both women looked up to see a man with fair skin, bare chested with black wings descending to them. In his hands, he had potion bottles that he gave to the young woman.
"Thank you, Icarus," she said to the winged man. He nodded his head and flew back to the sky.
"Do you know who I am?" Kara asked.
"Of course, you're my mother." The young woman pointed a finger at Kara and placed it on her mother's forehead. All of her memories flooded into her daughter's mind. Kara gasped.
"Sous?" Her daughter whispered. "Tany...you were in love with Sous but she was with Tany. Icarus loves Tany. She turned him back, you know."
"I always knew she was going to be a powerful witch."
The young woman nodded her head and walked back to the pot she was working on, pouring the potions into it. "Do you plan on connecting with Sous?" Her daughter asked, not even looking up from the pot.
"Yes..."
"You do know...everything your pack has gained will be lost if you do. Are you willing sacrifice that just for her?"
With tears starting to form in her eyes, Kara asked, "Why are you making me choose?"
Sous chased after the wendigo. They were running on top of the metal frame houses in the swamp. Her teammates attempted to shoot their electric nets but this wendigo was fast, able to easily duck or jump out of it.
Blue particles swarmed around her, her arms and hands feeling warm with the blue flames shre had as her power.
Sous's boots pounded across the corrugated metal roof, each step echoing through the humid swamp air. Below, the wendigo blurred between stilt-legged shacks, its emaciated frame twisting with unnatural speed.
An electric net hissed past Sous's ear, slamming into a water tank with a shower of sparks. "Too slow!" she yelled, not breaking stride. Another net shot from her left, the wendigo simply folded backwards at the waist, the crackling mesh missing by inches. It scrambled up a support beam onto the next roof, claws screeching on tin.
Sous leapt the gap without hesitation. The blue flames swirling around her arms flared hotter, humming like trapped hornets. She landed hard, rolled, came up sprinting.
The wendigo skidded sideways on the next roof, kicking up rusty metal shards. It pivoted, snarling, saliva dripping from elongated jaws. Sous didn't slow. She charged straight at it, boots hammering the tin.
Her fist swung. With a swiftness, just a blue to the eye, she landed contact. The wendigo twisted violently, claws raking her forearm. Pain seared through her. Blood welled instantly. She ignored it. Her other hand grabbed its bony wrist. Blue flames surged down her arm.
It was at that time, her teammate shot the net, capturing the creature, ending their bout.
Back at the office, Sous had her arm wrapped. She had tried to heal herself with the aqua senere spell but she was a bit rusty with it. She watched her teammate wrap the bandages until her wound was completely covered.
Kara walked to her mansion, barely able to keep her head up as she was met in the curved driveway by one of her youngest. To gain Sous would be to lose all of this. But what did her daughter mean truly? Yes, Canas would be lost to Apex but what about her children, her property, would it all just disappear?
Zhiliary was in the backyard standing on a railing that looked over the city hills, the lights and far away from the noise that a city brings.
She turned to look at her mate when she returned. She nodded her head at the tea that was on the table waiting for her. The ice still hard and cold within the liquid. A little pot of sugar stood to the side of the tea.
Kara picked up the tea spoon and began to scoop of a few scoops of sugar. Zhiliary sat down in the chair across from her, also taking a sip of her own beverage.
"So what happened?" She watched Kara swirl her spoon around the tea cup. "Did you meet her?"
"Yes," Kara responded after waiting some time. Zhiliary waited, not pushing the response further. "She's a very powerful witch. She saw all my memories. Sous is coming," she lied. She wasn't sure why she lied but...she did. And so she continued to. "She said that if Sous comes back then we will lose everything."
Zhiliary stared wide eyed at Kara. The Omega could see the gulp the Alpha did, followed by taking more of her drink. Zhiliary sat back in her chair then got up. She got up and walked back inside.
Zhilary sat on the couch in the living room and quickly took out her cellphone.
Ring, ring!
"Ayo!" Riley said, on the other line snuggled up with Derrick while watching a movie.
"We need to send some assassins to Sous." Was all the Alpha said.
