Sous wanted to help but Randali was dead and all eyes were on her. The President was right, the Hunters would be coming for her since she killed Randali who was a Nadian citizen. But..it was an accident. They'd understand.
"It was an accident," Sous said, trying to argue her case. The students gathered around even instructors were starting to come over due to the screams.
"See...I always knew she was evil," said a student. Sous' ears twitched, hearing the whisper, the gossip starting to begin.
"How could she do that to her friend?"
"Dangerous..."
"They're going to come for her."
Sous slowly began to back and away and then she left. She ran, she didn't know where she was running to but she had to leave before they caught her.
Everything had to be left behind: her computer, the visual novels, her clothes, books, wand...it all had to be left, for she didn't have time.
She ran off campus to the Fornik and from Fornik, she ran to the forest. She had to find a way to get out of Nadia, get to Canas to think things through. She didn't know though if the Hunters would follow her all the way to Canas.
Snap!
Sous tripped over a twig and fell down an embankment. She landed roughly, twisting her leg. She cursed herself and used a tree to stand up. She limped over to the shore and out of the water filled embankment.
She could ask for help, but she didn't have allies near Hacate. Shadow was in Thornside, the sisters in the Witching Salons... It was then she thought about the centaurs. She had met them once when Randali and Sous came out to go hunting.
"Aqua senere!" She wrapped her hands around her twisted foot and started to heal herself. She looked up at the sky, completely lost and confused how everything had gone to shit so quickly. And then there was Randali.
Maybe it was a mistake, a nightmare she would wake up from soon. She shook her head. Who was she kidding? She killed her friend and now she was to be hunted and if found, taken to the lead arch.
FLASH!
Faye was still on campus when her silver eye flashed. She turned in the direction and saw Randali's spirit standing before her. She was sad, dishearten that her time came so soon.
The priestess walked to her friend and tried to touch her, but of course, her hand went threw her. She placed her needle into the wolf and began the process of helping her cross over to the after life.
Afterwards, she remained where she stood, astonished Randali actually sought her out and requested for her to help her spirit.
She ran toward the body of where Randali was and when she pushed through the small crowd that gathered, she saw the wolf and it wasn't long before she saw the Hunters.
They were above her, flying and soaring downward onto them. She looked around but ran to Zan's side. He was still hysterical, he grabbed onto Faye and fell within her arms.
"What happened?" She asked.
"Sous killed her."
Faye's eyes got wide. That was...that couldn't be. She remained speechless, watching as the instructors of the school began to interact with the Hunters. She must have run away. Faye looked down at the wolf in her arms.
"Why...?"
Zan rubbed his head into the priestess' bosom, getting her clothes all wet with his tears and snot. "They got into a fight because I told Randali I was pregnant and Sous was the sire."
Faye rocked back and forth with Zan in her lap. She looked over to the side and saw Makala walking over to them. The vampire heard what happened while she was still packing. She came as fast as she could, not believing it.
But there she saw the Hunters, hovering over everyone, trying to piece together the puzzle.
"Sous...what did you do?"
Sous stood on the river bank, unsure of what river it was or where it went to, deeper into the forest. She used her sharp claws to cut down tree branches and proceeded to use what she could with her magic that she could do without her wand to tie them together.
She looked at the makeshift raft and shook her head. "What the fuck am I doing, Sous?" She cussed at herself, pulling at her hair and pacing.
She didn't want to go to prison, she didn't mean to kill her friend- there were just so many things going on that Sous had no idea which way to start. She thought she would go to the centaurs but they didn't know her, she wanted to get to her mother but how? She was all the way in Faelock. Then she still had no idea what happened to Jacob.
She looked at the river once more and took off her clothes all the way down to her underwear. The river had to lead somewhere. She just didn't know which way it was traveling.
Sous jumped into the river and allowed it to take her wherever. All she did was keep her head above water and go with the flow, literally.
It was a few hours later before she came onto land, unsure of just how many miles she traveled but she knew she was in a new town. She stepped out of the water and onto the muddy bank. There was an enormous amount of fog, the trees had dry bark with moss that hung from the branches, swamps held animals she had never seen before.
She heard a loud screeching sound and ducked, never having heard such a petrified scream before. Sous stood where she was in the mud, her ears twitching trying to figure out where the scream came from.
EEEEEEHHHH!
There it was a again. She swallowed and proceeded deeper into the swamp land, pulling back moss and doing her best to see through the fog. She had tried to climb a tree so she could see above the fog but the tree was so weak, it broke in half, the partially naked girl fell to the ground in the mud. She shook herself off and trekked deeper into the swamps.
"Bonjure, Madame!"
Sous looked to the side to hear a familiar language which told her where she was, more than likely in the bayous.
"Parlez vous Ench?"
Sous shook her head. The man wore a black suit with a top hat which was pretty surprising since it was a bit more humid in the swamps versus over at Hacate where there was snow.
He snapped his fingers and the mud was gone from Sous and she was in a new outfit.
"You look like you're in trouble," he said, a grin so wicked Sous hadn't the slightest desire to speak to this witch doctor.
She waved her hand and shook her head. She proceeded to walk onward but the man tallied behind her.
"I know that look," he said. "The look of someone being hunted."
Sous quickly turned around and placed the man in headlock. She was quick but his skills were talented as well, for he turned into a snake and latched himself around Sous' neck and flicked his tongue at her.
"Hmmm hmmm hmmmmmm," he mocked the teenager while turning back to his human form. "Ihave friends on the other side."
He walked around Sous, eager to take advantage of the poor magae in her current state. He snapped his fingers and a chair appeared, allowing him to sit on it. He then tapped his shoe on the ground three times and the ground opened. Shadow people began to appear and they took hold of Sous, sitting her down on a chair that appeared out of nowhere.
"My, my, my," he said with a drawl to his voice, similar to Faye and Thibodeux. "You have a lovely soul."
Sous glared at the man, not sure of what he was wanting, wishing she had asked more of Faye and her culture when she had a chance.
"I have a contract for you to sign. If you sign, you can be free," he said. In his hand, a piece of parchment appeared with a ball point pen. He got up from his chair and handed it to Sous.
When Sous took the paper, she got a good look at the man. He was brown skinned with a buzz cut, full lips, and green eyes, maybe hazel. He was a handsome fellow but his power was dark.
"What is this magic?" Sous asked.
"I am priest...voodoo and hoodoo is what we do here."
"You're a witch doctor," Sous argued.
He smirked at her, a gap in his front teeth. "I can be more than one thing, you know."
