Sous stepped outside onto campus and wrapped her scarf around her neck.
"AGH!" The cold wind slapped her across the face, almost knocking her off her feet. She wiped her nose with her glove and placed her hands in her pockets on her way to her next class.
For the past couple of weeks, Tany had been avoiding her. When she would try and locate the witch so they could talk about their previous conversation, she would dash off.
Sous bumped into Instructor Pickle. "Sous!" He said. "You're coming to the potion club after school, right?"
Sous sighed, almost rolling her eyes. "I can't. I have sparring practice, remember? I can't go to the club until the next semester." It wasn't like she was apart of the dueling club. The agility club didn't have conflicting times with the potion club like the sparring club did so it made it easy to attend.
Sous continued on across the grass to her summoning class. She walked up the steps and went past the statue of Hacate, before going up another set of stairs.
She saw a flash of silver hair and turned to see Tany with the other members of the student council. They had boxes opened in front of them that consisted of several sets of decorations.
Sous looked over the railing at Tany with the other students of her class. Faye and Randali came into eye shot and Sous met up with them.
The Instructor who had olive skin and dark brown eyes with dirty blonde hair opened the door for her class to begin. She clapped her hands as the teenagers rushed in.
"Alright class," Instructor Serene started. She closed the door and walked to her podium. "So for the past week, you all have been tasked at building bonds with animals so as to summon them when needed. As we know, summoning animals helps us in situations that could be deemed as dire." She walked around her podium and stood on the first row step that led upward in the seating style of the class.
She stepped back and waved her hand in the front portion of the class.
"We will go row by row."
Sous watched as the first row stepped down. They placed their hands downward with whichever was their dominate hand. They slammed it onto the ground, crouching. A red seal with a circle and a triangle in the center appeared in front of each student.
They yelled out the summoning spell and smoke appeared in front of the students. Sous leaned forward in her seat to get a good look. When the smoke disappeared, she was able to see some of the students were able to summon and some weren't.
What stood out the most was the large black grim that stood in front of one of the students. The class whispered and awed at the fine beast with its dark black fur.
"He summoned a grim," Faye said aloud.
The boy started crying while the large dog stood before him. The instructor walked to the boy and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Is this your pet?"
"No," the boy cried. "It just started to appear."
Faye being a priestess knew exactly what the grim meant. She glanced around the room. Her right eye changing to the color gray, a new technique she gain over the summer. It allowed her to see spirits that normally would be able to hide amongst the living. Sous watched her friend intently.
Faye shook her head, "There are no spirits in the room."
"That means someone is going to die," Randali said.
Faye couldn't argue with the wolf. Grims were known to appear when one's spirit was going to depart from their body. The grim would then assist that spirit into going into the after life, if that spirit was in fact going into the after life.
Normally grims hung around and protected churches so for this one to appear, it was interesting for the priestess.
Next it was Sous and her friends turn. They walked down to the floor and proceeded to do the motions. "Tilkalde!" They called out, slamming their hands down on the ground, and just like before, smoke appeared.
The floor began to shake, the walls vibrated, hissing of that of a snake could be heard, followed by a howl of a wolf. The floor opened up, revealing hands of the dead as they made their way to the surface.
The smoke cleared and the entire class was shocked. They stood back, no one wanting to be turned into stone, a zombie, or dog food even.
Little baby basilisk was certainly not little as he stood ten feet high, his tongue flicked out, and his body coiled within the classroom.
Faye watched as the dead came from the depths of hell and stood behind her as if they were her soldiers.
A large wolf that stood about twenty feet tall and about forty feet in length had trouble keeping its bearings in the class. The classroom was just too small for it.
And then puff. Their creatures were gone. Sous, Faye, and Randali looked at their instructor. She was speechless as she leaned against the desk bracing herself.
She straightened her attire, "Um, class dismissed."
Although there was no snow, the pond out back had frozen over. It wasn't thick enough yet so there were signs about telling the students to not walk or skate on the ice.
Sous and Randali walked with one another. Their shoes crunched down on the icy grass.
"If you're trying to woo an Omega, you want to bring them food," Randali started. "Alphas are providers so demonstrating we can obtain food especially meat and present that to an Omega, it let's them know you're able to hunt successfully."
"Should it be raw or cooked?"
The two Alphas found a bench to sit on that looked out to the large pond that led into the hills.
"It should be raw and with the fur still on it."
"Wait, so I actually need to go hunting?" Sous asked, completely taken off guard. Randali nodded her head and quickly assumed Sous had never been hunting before.
"We don't really have deer in this area. Its mostly elk. But tell ya what. Meet me out here come sun down on Dies Veneris. Ill teach you."
Later after dinner, Sous thought about how she was going to send an elk back to Kara in Faelock. It may be better though to send it to Shadow and have him send it to Monica, and then her to Kara-
Sous ran her fingers through her long messy hair. So many transitions just to get to one person: Kara.
Sous walked across the courtyard and saw Tany coming her way with boxes in her hands. Sous ran up to the witch and took a box from her.
In silence, Sous followed Tany to the cafeteria and set the box down next to the other boxes. Other members of student council were already beginning to decorate.
Tany was going to go ahead and move on but Sous caught her arm. She turned to look at the Alpha.
"Can we just talk?"
Sous and Tany found themselves in the garden, the same place they went to in their first years when the dance at come around.
Her hands were starting to sweat and she wiped them on her jeans. She heard Tany sniff and knew it was because of weather. Sous took out a handkerchief from her pocket, something Faye suggested to her and handed it to Tany. Tany wiped her nose and folded it, keeping it in her hands.
"I don't think I'm ready to be in a relationship right now."
"Is it because of Kara?"
Sous placed her head down and then brought it back up. She gave Tany a small smile. "Yes...I really like her," Sous finally admitted.
"Is she even allowed to be with you?"
That hurt. It hurt because of many things. Sous was a considered a mutt and was hated amongst Doureena. Zhiliary also wanted Kara and had more access to her; she even looked the other way about Kara being one fouth of a witch. Plus the last conversation Sous had with Kara didn't go so well. The Omega probably thought Sous was some selfish pervert.
That wasn't true. Since then Sous had purchased books from a store in Fornik that talked about heat and rut cycles. That it was painful at first for the Omega but there were ways to make it pleasurable. That's what Sous wanted. She wanted to make Kara feel good.
"I don't know but I want to try...I think." Sous said.
Tany nodded her head. If Kara was who she wanted then there was nothing she could do about that. Sous was her friend and she would support her friend regardless.
"Thank you for being honest with me," Tany whispered.
Sous scooted close to her friend and wrapped an arm around the witch's shoulder. They stared off into the night.
