Instructor Song blew the whistle later in the evening when school had ended. The second years were in their area of the sparring field while the thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, and sevenths were in theirs. He circled about each group of pairs to make sure they were following the drills correctly.
When he took the pixie boy to the infirmary, the nurse had confirmed to him the boy was indeed paralyzed. She then scolded Instructor Song on being too forceful and blunt with his training even with second years.
Instructor Song had simply allowed for a sweat drop to come over him and he had smiled at the woman. There was no reason in him telling her that it was actually a student that caused the injuries. And that the student on the bed caused his own injuries at that.
He blew the whistle once more. Faye and Sous both took hold of each other's uniforms. With their hands on either side and with one above the other, as well as having their feet staggered in the judo standing position. They heard the whistle for the second time, and it was Sous who over power Faye, throwing her over.
Faye got up, not even bothering to wipe the dirt and grass off that had got on her. She walked back to her original position and struck her judo pose.
The whistle went off and they once more placed their hands on each other's uniform. It went off a second time and it was Sous who found herself on her back. The air knocked out of her, she slowly rose to her feet.
"Damn, you throw so hard."
Faye didn't say anything to the comment. She listened for the whistle that sounded off two times.
"Alright, go ahead and do two laps around the field and see you tomorrow!"
Ever since the incident with Pixie Boy, Faye hadn't spoken much. She was in her own head and she kept her distance from the group especially Makala. Sous ran next to her for both of the two laps and walked with her in the direction of the dorms.
"Maybe you should come by the infirmary later on today."
Faye stopped walking and turned to look at Sous. Her face twisted as if surprised that Sous would even recommended such a thing. "For what?" Her tone offended by the suggestion in the first place.
"He's our friend." Sous said.
"No, he's your friend. I only put up with him because of you and Makala and the others."
She walked away from Sous to go into the direction of her tower once they got to the small courtyard. Sitting on the bench was Zan with a couple of flowers. He walked up to Sous.
"She's still upset?" He asked. Seeing how Sous nodded her head, he continued on with what he was going to say. "I mean, he hit her. And he hasn't apologized. Why should she submit?"
That was such an Omega thing for him to say. To say that Faye would be submitting to Pixie Boy if she were to appear in the infirmary, just to wish him well. "She paralyzed him."
Zan tilted his head at his friend. "That wouldn't have happened if he hadn't punched her. Why are you taking his side? He hit her first."
"I'm not taking either side. I just don't want my friends fighting."
Zan shook his head. "Its like everyone sees how entitled Pixie Boy is but you."
"I see it!"
"Yeah well, and you don't address it like how an Alpha should." Zan shoved the flowers into Sous' chest. "It was actually Alana who gave me those flowers but I'm not going to visit him. Here. She also wants to talk to you."
Sous took the flowers and walked over to the black locked door over in the small courtyard that led to Alana's lair. That's really what she ought to start calling it. She took her wand out of her uniform pocket and watched the lock come undone. After the Day of the Demons, Alana had lessen the lock to make it a skill two instead of a skill four.
She stepped lightly in the puddles of the cave. She saw Alana at her chair and desk writing and for the first time, she saw other students there, mostly elves.
Sous walked between them as they went from one desk to another doing whatever they were doing. It was hard to tell with how much of a hustle they put in their actions.
Sous tapped on Alana's desk. The older girl smiled when she saw Sous and took her by the hand. They walked to the edge of the cave that led to the water where Sous had thrown her hackey sack ball. When she looked around, she saw an elf teen playing with it. She turned back to Alana.
"Its not like we wanted to do what we do to the goblins," she started. She looked out into the cave water, dark and unable to see the bottom. She licked her lips and waved her fingers through her hair. "It was the deal the kingdom had to sign with Apex."
"Tsk, you couldn't have gotten help from the humans?"
"The humans see elves has competition when it comes to technology. They're also better at us when it comes to making weapons. Their artillery industry is amazing. They declined signing us as an ally. Afraid we would turn against them."
"...Would you have?"
"...Probably, elves aren't the most loyal when it comes to nation compromises."
The two stood quiet on the edge of the rocks. Just keeping their eyes on the dark water below as if something was going to just pop out.
"I got you an apprenticeship in Dimona for the summer. You can see what happens there and learn the business. You wanna learn the business, right?"
Sous nodded her head. "If I'm to be Alpha of Apex, I have to be educated on the partnerships the pack has. And put a stop to the ones that are just plain cruel."
After getting out of her training uniform, she walked to the infirmary to pay Pixie Boy a visit. When she got there, Jacob, Randali, and Makala were there but Faye and Zan weren't. She walked to the boy. He was sitting up in bed moving about so the nurse had obviously got him back to normal.
It was hard for Pixie Boy to even look Sous in the eyes after what he had did. He kept his gaze low. "Faye didn't want to come?"
"Why should she?"
Pixie Boy expected that answer. When he looked up at Makala, she too was turned away from him. She chose to stay by the window near his bed with het arms crossing her chest. He began to fiddle with his hands.
"I was just so jealous." He confessed.
"Jealous of what?" Makala came around the window and stood by his bed side. The two fourteen year olds began to converse. "What is there to be jealous of?"
"Of yer interacting with her. I heard yer even asked her out!"
Makala rolled her eyes. "This stupid school and their gossip." She quickly turned back to Pixie Boy. "Yes, Daniel, I did."
His name was Daniel?
"I really like her."
"I thought yer liked me." It sounded like he was pleading. His tone was whiney and Sous and Randali found it to be an embarrassment. They didn't like seeing it, feeling disgusted at his lack of pride.
Pride...when did Sous care about pride? It would seem as days went on, more and more of her Alpha was starting to show.
"In the beginning, it was just yer and me," he continued. "We were a team."
"We still are," Makala said. "We just have a bigger team now."
Pixie Boy didn't like that answer and slammed himself into the pillow. Makala sighed and placed her hand on his.
"Daniel, I like Faye and that's not changing, at least not anytime soon. You just have to accept that."
He took his hand out from under hers and turned over on his side, his back to her. Makala looked at her friends, shaking her head, thinking there was no point to talk to him like this. He wasn't trying to hear it.
"How about we let the boys talk?" Jacob said. Sous turned to him. "Wolves have Alphas and Omegas but everyone else just has boys and girls. That's what he understands. Let me talk to him."
The girls exchanged looks with one another and left the room. They stood outside the door for a bit until Sous realized Tany wasn't there. She hadn't seen much of her since school started for the semester at all.
"Where's Tany?"
