Chapter 41 - A Captain's Burden I

Benson left out the rest, the fact that Dorian had been stabbed, not even on his physical body, but on an external body that was probably connected to his core.

Any slight touch or damage to that could cause him incredible pain.

He had half expected it to be as dense and hard as iron, eventually breaking the knife, but a blade went through it, and Kyle even held it, squeezed it.

'Spongy meat' was what they decided to call it, if mere observation could explain the state of the body. For Kyle, it could have been the gauntlet, or it could have been something about the body reacting to Dorian's emotions and memories.

Still, it was strange, Aurora hadn't been able to track or explain what was in the knife, how it was made, who made it, or why all the bodies they collected had one on them.
