Chapter 93 - Chapter 93: Tyranitar VS Alakazam

In the Gymnasium of Saffron City, Ash and Sabrina faced off on the battlefield. Before them, Tyranitar and Alakazam were locked in an intense standoff!

After dinner, Ash had decided to depart for his next destination early the following morning. That made the evening the perfect time to settle their battle.

From the very start, Sabrina had activated her psychic powers and evolved her Abra directly into Alakazam, temporarily boosting its strength to a Champion level!

"Damn it... I completely forgot the biggest advantage of Psychic-type Pokémon!" Ash muttered, frowning as he watched Tyranitar and Alakazam exchange glares. By all logic, Tyranitar should've had no problem taking down Alakazam!

But this battle left Ash vaguely unsatisfied. He had overlooked one of the Psychic type's most troublesome tricks—Teleport. In the earlier exchanges, every single one of Tyranitar's attacks had been dodged by Alakazam's instantaneous teleportation.

"Hmph~ I didn't expect you to come here before capturing any Ghost-types," Sabrina said from across the field, her lips curling into a provocative smile. "Seems like I have the advantage today."

Ash raised a brow, replying calmly, "It's not like I've mastered it, but this is the only way to keep up with your teleporting."

"Tyranitar, use Agility!"

"Tyraaan!" Tyranitar vanished from the spot in a blink, the ground where it had been standing erupting as if a bomb had gone off.

"Too fast! Alakazam, teleport again!" Sabrina's eyes narrowed in alarm as she shouted the command. She couldn't afford to lose this battle—it might be a turning point in her life!

"Ha!" Alakazam cried out, vanishing in a burst of blue psychic light. At the same moment, Tyranitar reappeared right where Alakazam had just stood. It saw its target had vanished once again and immediately followed after.

"H-How is this possible?! For a giant like Tyranitar to move that fast...!" Cold sweat slid down Sabrina's face as she realized Tyranitar was actually catching up to her teleporting Alakazam.

Ash had initially assumed Sabrina was just a mid-level Trainer—an Elite Four candidate at best. But she turned out to be a full-fledged Gym Leader of extraordinary strength. Even so, everything was still within his expectations.

"Close the distance—use Mach Punch!"

With that command, the tomoe in Ash's eyes—his distinctive aura-sight—spun rapidly. Tyranitar and Alakazam appeared at the same moment, and Tyranitar's thick arm glowed white with explosive force before slamming into Alakazam's abdomen.

"Ahhh!!!" Alakazam screamed, the impact clearly heavy.

"Alakazam, use Psychic! Restrain its movements!" Sabrina reacted instantly. Though Alakazam had been temporarily raised to Champion-level through her powers, that didn't translate to physical resilience. A few more direct hits like that, and it wouldn't be able to continue.

Even though she still had a trump card, Sabrina didn't want to use it unless absolutely necessary. Once revealed, its effectiveness would be drastically reduced. So she held back—for now.

"Ha!" Alakazam's eyes glowed, and with a flick of its spoon, a shimmering blue light enveloped Tyranitar, halting it mid-charge.

"That's one powerful Psychic! Even if it's only a pseudo-Champion boost, that mental energy is no joke," Ash noted, his aura vision clearly showing the strength of the technique.

"Alakazam, throw it!" Sabrina's eyes flashed as she issued the next command.

"Ha!" Bound in place, Tyranitar was hurled like a cannonball into the left wall of the battlefield with an earth-shaking crash. The sheer force of the throw would've seriously injured most Pokémon.

"Ash is in trouble," Cynthia muttered from behind him. "Psychic-types are difficult to deal with unless you're using a Ghost-type. This could easily turn into a war of attrition."

"Tyranitar, Heavy Slam—on yourself!"

"BOOM!!!" Tyranitar smashed into the wall, then dropped straight to the ground, creating a thunderous tremor that shook the entire Gymnasium.

"What?!" Sabrina's eyes widened in disbelief. That kind of maneuver—it defied logic!

The trick was that Tyranitar had used Heavy Slam on itself. By drastically increasing its body weight, it suppressed the momentum from Alakazam's throw, negating most of the damage.

After recovering his stance, Tyranitar shed the Heavy Slam buff in a flash. Though the move was usually meant for attacks, Ash had just used it defensively—and brilliantly so.

"Alakazam, Psychic again!" Sabrina called, voice taut with tension. She refused to give in—her eyes practically glowed with determination.

"Use Heavy Slam again!" Ash replied flatly.

Though Alakazam's psychic field enveloped Tyranitar once more, this time, it couldn't lift the weighty beast even a single step.

Even for a Champion-level Psychic, there's a limit to how much weight can be lifted—especially when the target is a fierce and fully-grown Tyranitar. Under Ash's training, Tyranitar had developed an even more massive frame and power.

"Hah!" Alakazam let out a strained cry, the tension on its face betraying the strain. It looked as if it were pushing against an immovable wall.

"No... it's already been ten minutes," Sabrina murmured, glancing anxiously at the time. "In just three more minutes, Alakazam's level will drop back to Elite-level!"

"Raaagh!" At that moment, Tyranitar let out a thunderous roar. The psychic pressure restraining it shattered like glass under its explosive aura. Alakazam was pushed back several steps just by the sheer force of its will!

"Hmph! Tyranitar, use Quagmire Field!" Ash commanded with a sharp glint in his eyes.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Tyranitar responded immediately, stomping on the ground with tremendous force. In under three seconds, the terrain shifted dramatically. The once-solid battlefield transformed into a swamp-like mire.

Quagmire Field—a terrain-altering move that turns the battlefield into thick sludge. With enough power poured in, it can become a full-blown swamp that hinders movement drastically.

"Ha!" Alakazam struggled as the ground beneath its feet turned soft and sticky, trapping its legs deep in the muck. Even with Teleport, it would have to fight against the swamp's drag with every move. Escaping would be slow, if not impossible.
