"Mamamama! Good! I trust they were appropriately taken care of?" Big Mom asked grinning darkly at her second eldest son who nodded, then she busied herself with another candy that she had been having a craving for.
"They weren't big time traders, just weaklings who got lucky. They couldn't even sell another child on the ship for a full year." Katakuri said making his mother glance up from her candy.
"Only one other?" Big Mom asked making Katakuri nod.
"A boy from the East Blue who has a Devil Fruit. He's about the same age as Yuen it seems. He's protected Pudding from the slavers since she was grabbed and until we got there. He is…interesting." Katakuri said admitting that much and knowing better than to lie to his mother.
"How so? He's a runt from the weakest sea." Big Mom said apparently dismissing the boy out of hand now from that information.
"He's been beating up the traders ever since they grabbed him it seems, some of them had injuries from before we got there and at least one had several broken bones. He has a curious devil fruit, not sure which one it is yet but it allows him to stretch, he's unafraid of us completely. He thought Brulee was a branch and thinks things like Long Legs and Snake Necks are cool along with Perospero-nii-san's tongue. He also seems to have been mainly raised by bandits but has a grandfather in the marines who's consistently abused him while trying to make him into a marine. He's offhandedly mentioned more than one instance of being thrown into somewhere very dangerous with no food or training and being forced to find himself a way out along with a way of eating….he didn't know what things like lemons or lollipops were." Katakuri said perking up Big Mom's interest. A grandfather in the marines? And starving? She took starving very seriously.
"Where is this boy and Pudding at now?" Big Mom asked as she finished off her candy and stared down at her son.
"The kitchens with Brulee, Smoothie, Amande, and Perospero-onii-san. Brulee finds the boy interesting, and the three sisters aren't letting Pudding out of their sight for a while yet. Perospero-onii-san also wanted to check on Pudding and finds the boy amusing." Katakuri said making Big Mom nod.
"Good. I want to meet him. Bring him and Pudding both here." Big Mom ordered making Katakuri nod his head and turn towards a mirror.
"Brulee. Can you hear me?" Katakuri asked into the mirror making his sisters face appear immediately.
"Katakuri-nii-san! Is everything alright?" Brulee asked making Katakuri nod before Luffy's face, a doughnut half in his mouth, appeared next to Brulee's.
"Is he stuck in the mirror? I thought you could go into the mirrors? Can he do it too?" Luffy asked staring with wide eyes as he finished off the doughnut and near swallowed it whole despite it being almost as big as he was.
"He's not stuck or in the mirror. My brothers and sisters can use the mirrors to talk to me." Brulee patiently explained to the boy who stared up at her amazed.
"That's so cool! I want to use a mirror and talk to Ace-nii!" Luffy said making Brulee blush a bit at her devil fruit being considered cool to a kid but gave him a sad sympathetic smile.
"My mirrors have a certain range, I'm afraid your Ace-nii is outside of that range." Brulee said making Luffy blink before nodding his head as if he understood.
"Mama wants to see Pudding and meet Luffy. Can you bring them through?" Katakuri asked making Brulee nod although he noticed the spark of fear in her eyes. The fear that Big Mom would take away the boy she had grown attached to.
"Smoothie can you keep ahold of Luffy-kun so he doesn't run around again? Pudding-chan we're going to see Mama." Brulee spoke to the others and Smoothie was more than happy to hold Luffy in her arms while he grabbed another tea cake for the travel.
"We'll be coming through in just a second Katakuri-nii-san." Brulee said making Katakuri nod and step away from the mirror. True to her word, Brulee was coming through the mirror in less than a minute, Smoothie right behind her holding Luffy while Perospero was behind Smoothie holding Pudding and Amande brought up the rear.
"Woah this place is so big! I bet you could fit all of Dawn Island in here!" Luffy said wide eyed as he wiggled around in Smoothie's arms to get down and explore.
"Mama!" Pudding was happy to see her mother who didn't look at all mad or upset and instead was watching them curiously.
"Eh? Mama? What's a Mama?" Luffy asked and the Charlotte siblings very carefully kept their faces blank. So the boy didn't have a mother? What about his father? They could only guess that he was out of the picture too with the way Luffy only spoke of his brothers and grandpa.
"Luffy-kun. That lady right there is our mother and the Queen of Tottoland, Big Mom, but everyone calls her Mama." Smoothie said making Luffy pull a face.
"Queen? Like those nobles from Dawn Island? The ones who burned down the Grey Terminal and took away Sabo-nii?" Luffy asked and he didn't look happy at that, making the siblings carefully hide their feelings on the matter. Amande blew out a slightly longer cloud of smoke from her cigarette and Brulee's hands clenched and unclenched but otherwise they didn't react. The more they heard from the boy the less they wanted to return him to where he came from.
"Not at all. Mama is a pirate." Smoothie said and they sort of expected Luffy to be even more scared or angry now, instead his eyes widened impossible and he grinned.
"A pirate! That's so cool! I wanna be a pirate too!" Luffy said making everyone stare at him.
"Isn't your grandfather a marine though?" Big Mom asked wondering if there was a misunderstanding.
"Yeah Jiji's a marine but he's mean and I don't want to be a marine! I want to be a pirate! Ace-nii, Sabo-nii and I all made a promise to become pirates and we'd set sail when we're seventeen! That gives Ace-nii a two year head start but I'm not going to let him beat me! I'm going to get big and strong! Even stronger than Ace-nii and Jiji!" Luffy said brightly and the siblings smiled slightly, remembering when they had been young and foolish and thought of sailing their own crews instead of being with their mother.
"Who is this Jiji of yours?" Big Mom asked wondering if it was just some bureaucratic Marine or some Vice-admiral.
"Eh he's Jiji…Dadan calls him Garp though." Luffy said shrugging his shoulders uncaringly.
Everything seemed to stop for the Charlotte siblings as the older ones all stared at the little boy in disbelief.
This kid, this unassuming gangly looking little ball of sunshine and power…was the grandson of Garp the fist?
