Chapter 8 - Talking with the Emperor

"So, you want your daughter to open a 'private investigating office?' Victor, I think you have misinterpreted my words. I said that you can do this if you want, but not your daughter," said a silver-haired man, wearing crown and a scroll in his hands.

"Your Majesty, I had led the 'Crime Investigation Knights' for years. As idiotic and weird the name sounds, I had led the Red Knights and you do know that you can trust my judgement."

The emperor, Lichtone frowned at Victor's words. He shook his head and replied, "Like with Duke Karlos, is it? Victor, it was the greatest mistake you had committed. Maybe the only mistake you had committed in your entire life, if we forget about your failed marriage." His words held a biting effect on Victor.

Victor looked dead straight into Lichtone eyes and said, "It wasn't a mistake. It never was."

Lichtone smiled and nodded. "Your daughter, is it? A troublesome child... yet, you love her as she is. Parents always tend to ignore their child's mistakes. I did with my son as well. Although, I did punish him... took his status as the crown prince."

Victor lowered his eyes and contemplated Lichtone's words. He asked, "Did you ever regret that you wouldn't catch your daughter's killer?"

Lichtone put the scroll on the table and said, "I thought you were the one who regretted it. You accused an innocent. The only reason we are here because you are my friend. As for Anna, it was unfortunate... but I can't dwell on it any longer. I suggest you the same. Your daughter was her best friend, right? Victor, as for the permission... fine. You and your family has served the empire for years. It's the least I can do. So, go home and I will send all the documents for your daughter's whims."

Victor stood up and started to walk towards the door. Just as he grabbed the handle, Lichtone's words entered his ears.

"Victor, for the sake of old times... I am allowing it. Don't have your daughter make me regret my decision... or, else..."

Victor looked back and smirked, "Your Majesty, mind your words. I don't like hearing threats, especially if you threaten my daughter. I am sure you won't like it. So, thread carefully there. Unlike you, I care about my daughter."

Will Father get the permission? Still, I don't know how this will help everything. System was very vague about this. I still don't have every bit of information to go on. If I recount the system's words... it all back tracts towards one thing. Crime. But it still doesn't work for me. The 'OG Protagonist' was killed and so were the male leads. Unlike in the novel, where they got their happy ending... in the 'real world' they died. But who killed them is a mystery on its own. The 'outside factors' also died as well. The system said over the course of repetition, the protagonist lost her aura. From the 'chosen one,' she became an NPC. The male leads weren't any better. Although, their statuses weren't affected... they didn't have the power to go against this invisible threat which kept killing them. Honestly, what am I even against? God? Monster? Devil? Demon? Angel? Nature? Human? Or, something completely different? From what I know, the system said to start working from basics. The roots. But will solving them will give me an answer? But I do know one thing. The person or, the thing which I am against is using the 'future crime-infested' world as a coverup. Something to misguide.

Leahlya sighed and buried her under the pillow. She grabbed the book from under the cover and began reading it.

[Magic is everywhere and so does its unit. Mana. Every living being has it. It helps us in many ways. Healing, fighting, building, etc. It's a vital part in our life. Without it, we can never survive. So, let's discuss the branches of magic.

Healing and Medicinal Magic: Deals with the healing department. Herbs and other potions are involved in it.

Architectural Magic: Building and other related things.

Battle Magic: Knights and Mages use magic to fight and protect our nation.

Machine Magic: The machines which are made from magic uses this magic.

There are other branches of magic as well but they are the subsets of these branches. Remember, everyone has mana. Yet, the degree of concentration of mana is different for each person. One can have more, and another can have less. Mana is very subjective. Even bloodlines can't control 'mana-inheritance.' Now, this might upset many people... but it's true. No need to feel bad. My daughter has low mana supply as well. See, so need to feel any bad! I...]

Leahlya slammed the book shut and thrown it on the ground. Suddenly, she heard someone knock her door.

"Come on in!" yelled Leahlya.

A maid entered the room and bowed. She said, "Greetings, Young Lady. His Lordship wants you to come to his office."

With an angry face, Leahlya jumped out of bed and said, "Give me a few minutes. Also, please do tell my 'dearest' father that we have to talk. And he should be prepared for it."

Because I am angry. Very, very... damn angry.
